2 Presentation of UN SDSN and MED SDSN Regional SDSN Center for the Mediterranean Region
3 UNITED NATIONS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT SOLUTIONS NETWORK UN SDSN has been launched by the SG Ban Ki- Moon on August 9, 2012 UN SDSN, directed by Jeffrey Sachs (Earth Institute, Columbia University), is a new independent global network of research centres, universities and technical institutions UN SDSN helps to find solutions for some of the world s most pressing environmental, social and economic problems UN SDSN initiative is part of the work undertaken in response to the mandate on post-2015 and the outcome of the Rio + 20 Conference { UN project }
4 UNITED NATIONS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT SOLUTIONS NETWORK UN SDSN will work with stakeholders including: universities business civil society UN agencies other international organizations { stakeholders }
5 OBJECTIVES OF UN SDSN Identify long-term pathways to sustainable development Promote testing, demonstration, development of promising new solutions Build a global Knowledge Centers Network for local and regional problem solving { UN project s objectives }

Good Governance of Extractive and Land Resources 11. Global Rules and Mechanisms for Sustainable Development 12. Redefining the Role of Business for Sustainable Development { MDGs}
7 THE SOLUTIONS INITIATIVES Practical initiatives involving technologies, business models, institutional mechanisms, and/or policies that are promising but not yet proven Criteria for selection: Scalability and wide applicability Novelty Learning by doing Feasibility Sponsorship { solutions }
8 KNOWLEDGE CENTERS NETWORK Made up of member organizations such as universities, NGOs or businesses active in SD research or its application Regional Knowledge Centers coordinate and manage the network s activities in the region Criteria for constitution: Broad-based active research / project work on SD in the region Administrative and operational capabilities Ability and willingness to mobilize funding (no financial support from UN SDSN) { regional knowledge centers }
