BANDUNG - INDONESIA SYMPOSIUM DECEMBER 17, 2009 The manufacturing plant, which was inaugurated in October, is located in the Lebap province near the city of Turkmenabad. It is equipped with Marzoli roving frames and spinning frames for the production of fine yarns. This last-generation plant produces 50,000 kg/24hrs of yarn, with counts ranging from Ne6 to Ne30, and of different types: fancy yarns, corespun, lycra, and double roving. Marzoli s advancement in Turkmenistan is mounting: three additional installations will be launched in the first four months of Marzoli is also delivering machinery for the same industrial group at the Ruhabat plant. This facility will open in the first few months of the New Year and will have a daily production capacity of 37,000 kg/24 hrs of 100% cotton and cotton/poly blends with counts ranging from Ne12 to Ne20. The other two new installations will be completed in the first trimester of The first one, in the Dashoguz province, near the border with Uzbekistan, will be inaugurated soon, whereas the second one in the city of Goktepe is currently being delivered. These are positive results that show how, despite the global crisis, Marzoli never ceased to stand by its customers growth and success. FOR THIS REASON S WEBSITE IS CONSTANTLY GROWING AND CONTINUALLY UPDATED WITH CURRENT AND ACCURATE INFORMATION TO GIVE AN OPEN AND CLEAR POINT OF CONTACT TO ITS CLIENTS AND PARTNERS. According to (an organization that compiles statistics of the internet population worldwide see Fig. 1) as of June 30th, 2009, 24.7% of the global population uses the Internet for researching information. Marzoli recognizes the importance of maintaining up-to-date information on its website to satisfy a growing number of users. For the last eighteen months Marzoli has dedicated a team of four people to the constant updating of the online data. Their names are: Enrico Fanoni, Vlada Zipponi, Valentina Guaragni and Sara Trigiani. The main topics featured on the site are selected by the sales team, lead by Rosino Varinelli, based on customers requests and interests. In addition, the marketing, advertising, and web-marketing teams point out the useful key words to guarantee the top spot on web searches. In particular, the News and Newsletter sections are a useful and handy reference for all customers who want to get the latest news or information on our technical advancements. The nonstop updating of the website strengthens customer loyalty and draws a greater number of new clients to share their experiences and other news. The results of this undertaking are clear: from January 1st to July 31st, 2009 the site registered 18,852 hits with 75,576 pages viewed. The website notoriety is constantly increasing; every hit generates new ones and the average rate of new visitors is 85.73%. Evidence of the quality and applicability of the information found on the Marzoli website is given by the bounce rate, or the number of visitors who don t go beyond the first page visited, which is currently 40.58%. The remaining 60% finds in everything they are looking for, opening on average four web pages per visit. The geographical chart of the web hits (Fig. 2) demonstrates the widespread distribution of the Marzoli name in the world. The hits come from 106 countries, the main ones being: Italy, India, Pakistan, Turkey, Iran, Bangladesh, China, United States, Peru, Germany, Philippines, and Egypt. Marzoli s identity is unambiguous all over the world. The main search phrases from Google and Yahoo search engines reveal how Marzoli s brand name is truly unmistakable: Marzoli textile machinery, cotton machinery, textile industrial, textile Italy, macchine tessili, textile technology, textile manufacturer, textile equipment. THE MEETINGS WITH THE TEXTILE COMPANIES IN INDIA HAVE PRESENTED THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE AN OPEN DIALOG ON TOPICS SUCH AS REDUCTION OF ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND REVIEWS OF S TECHNOLOGY. From July 20th 30th, 2009 Marzoli, in cooperation with the Textile Association of India, the South India Mills Association (SIMA), and our agent Ergo G2 Engineering, conducted a series of symposiums in Coimbatore, Dindigul and Guntur, entitled Recent developments of the spinning process. The presence of Indian companies was greater than expected, reaching 150 entrepreneurs who expressed interest in technical advancements and in future investments in development and technology. The theme of energy conservation was central; in particular, the General Secretary of SIMA, Doctor Slevaraju, commented that the Indian government is strongly supporting policies of containment of energy consumption. The textile industry has been forced to focus its attention on reducing energy costs. Tamil Nadu s government has guaranteed a cut in the energy consumption by 2015 and to achieve that goal, it has allocated special funds to the textile industry. Marzoli s solution to this problem, common to all industrialized countries, is the result of technological research and innovation on all product lines. In particular, Marzoli has accomplished the cutback of energy consumption thanks to technical improvements on the comber CM600N, such as the reduction of gripper workloads that allows greater production speeds, the optimization of the kinematics and dynamics, and the improved fiber selection with reduced waste, while achieving the same yarn quality. According to Dario Poma and Alessandro Ondei, India Area Managers, these symposiums have been very rewarding and may positively influence future investments. EVEN OPERATING AUTONOMOUSLY, S FOUNDRY REPRESENTS THE TECHNICAL AND PRODUCTIVE BASE OF S SUCCESS. Marzoli Spa always drew strength from intimate knowledge and direct control of all the production phases of each individual component. Since 1851 Marzoli s production departments ranged from foundry to assembly. Although during the last decades the strong competitive forces pushed the group toward a greater focus on core activities, Marzoli kept the key production units internally in order to directly control the technologies needed for producing the most significant components with highest quality standards. Following the business model of the Camozzi group, of which Marzoli has been part of for the last decade, the foundry has also opened its activity to external clients of various industries. This move has enhanced the foundry s technological and cultural growth, giving an autonomous identity to the department. The natural evolution has caused the separation of the foundry into a separate business entity with the formation in 2007 of Marzoli Foundry Srl. This unit, although operating autonomously, maintains a close synergistic relationship with the head office providing an important source of technological and production support. It is our belief that, in our current business situation, it is a winning move to rely on total quality at 360 degrees. It is not sufficient to aim at the production of precise components, but we also strive to maintain a circle of excellence to encourage continuous improvement of products and services for the customer. The production capacity of the foundry floor is of 3,000 T/year for each production shift and it s capable of producing special items in cast grey iron and nodular iron. Currently Marzoli Foundry has in excess of 100 customers that have partnered in the activity forming solid relationships. In the images below you can see the casting, molding and quality control departments. Casting Two new rotary melting furnaces for cast iron from the maker Sider Progetti. Capacity 6t Presently the foundry produces cast iron (EN- GJL-200/250/300) and nodular iron (EN-GJS-400/500/600). Molding The foundry is equipped with a vertical green sand molding machine with pestelli head and a system for the automatic movement of molds with a capacity of 40 molds/hour. The molds have dimension of 1000x , average weight per mold is 50 Kg with a range of 0.3Kg to 150Kg. The equipment is especially appropriate for small to medium lots. Quality Control We are equipped with a lab outfitted with tools for: cast iron analysis and metallography structure; quantometer tests on medals; mechanical tests and analyses of sands. 4

5 News from the world of spinning solution #10 December 2009 A three-generation family company committed to excellence THE INDUSTRIAL GROUP PARA IS A FAMILY COMPANY THAT FOR THREE GENERATIONS HAS PRODUCED FINE AND HIGH QUALITY TECHNICAL FABRICS USED FOR SUN SHADES, INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR UPHOLSTERY, AND FOR THE BOATING INDUSTRY. Ambrogio and Marco Parravicini, respectively President and Managing Director of Parà, together with their brothers Michele and Matteo gave us an account of the path to success of a product that has always been sought after for its esthetic and practical features. In 1920 Mario Parravicini started a manufacturing plant to produce mattress ticking fabrics. In the 50s it was replaced by the manufacturing of products for solar protection: initially cotton fabrics, and in the 60s also batch dyed acrylic. This marked the origin of the product that became the symbol of Parà: a fabric highly resistant to atmospheric agents, to molds and sea salt, characterized by colors that don t fade even after prolonged exposure to UV rays. In 1964 Montedison relinquished the brand TEMPOTEST to Parà for spinning acrylic fibers. Today the Parà group reports revenues of approximately one hundred million Euros per year and employs 400 people. Every year they sell about 18 million meters of fabric, of which 60% is for export. The group has a very widespread sales network with 65 agents worldwide, of which ten are exclusive agents. The strong Italian identity makes Parà stand out for their style and quality. Moreover, the ability to innovate, allows Parà to be the industry leader on an international scale. We asked the owners what has been the key to their success, and Marco, Managing Director of Parà, commented as follows: Parà derived its success from many synergistic activities. However, it is in no doubt its background as a family company, the love for the company and the desire to preserve a direct control of it that has pushed us to maintain a complete production line in Italy. This allowed us, on one hand to establish strong associations with the suppliers that were selected over the 90 years in business and that we consider as partners, and on the other hand to boast a production that is 100% made in Italy: a great success point in the foreign market. The production structure of Parà is highly vertical: from spinning to weaving, from printing to dyeing, from coating to finishing, with a substantial reduction in cost. This also gives us greater flexibility for product diversification even on small to medium batches, while still maintaining high product quality. 5

In today s market, having a large range of designs is not sufficient, but it is necessary that the different variants be able to satisfy the design taste of the numerous and different cultures all over the world. Our Style and Design office, where the innumerable combinations of colors that are a distinctive trait of our products are created, is one of the assets of this company that guarantees our leadership in outdoor fabrics (tents, umbrellas and awnings) for outdoor furniture and for boating and in the indoor furniture upholstering. You told us about the strong connections you were able to form with your suppliers/ partners on your path toward success. Does this mean you share your strategies with them? Certainly, yes. The SUPPLIER IS AS IMPORTANT AS THE CUSTOMER and their loyalty is a key for success. In 90 years we have inevitably gone through a selection process of our suppliers, including Marzoli and the Montecatini group for example. In particular, Marzoli has been able to keep the pace with the times, even during critical periods. Our investment in innovation starts before the process reaches our doors in our supplier s company. Marzoli s resolve for investment in research and development has given us the potential to produce and develop fabrics suitable to the Tempotest brand. One of the grounds of our success has been to share our strategies and our objectives with our partners. Another noteworthy example of this is that not all the yarn that goes into our fabrics is produced in our spinning mills. However, because of the importance that we attribute to yarn quality and to its consistency over time, also in this case we have selected suppliers that have historically adopted our production and quality principles such as in the case of Filatura Prealpina in Mornico (Bergamo - Italy). We finally wish to call attention to our special commitment, not only to the product quality, but also to what is called Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), or ethical business practices. The Parà Group has always paid great attention to the environmental impact of its practices and has put into operation an ultra-modern enzymatic water treatment plant with an efficiency rate of 94% that cleans over 2,000 cubic meters of water per day, and an innovative cogeneration plant that allows us to produce electricity and heat from methane gas and secondary sources such as recycled steam that would be otherwise released into the environment and be lost. 6

Marzoli s labs continue to test the prospects of spinning high performance fibers for the production of technical fabrics. The latest innovations focus on the setup of a blow room and carding line that is capable of working with three new types of special fibers at high efficiency and excellent yarn quality results. In particular, on a blow room line made up by our superblender B12N, mixer B143N, opener B134N and card C601SN, we have processed the following types of special fibers: Poly Phenyl Sulfide Para-Aramid Meta-Para-Aramid-Antistatic. The technical and quality data is shown below and as you can see the quality and efficiency coefficients are excellent. This yarn is utilized to produce technical fabrics that are used in the following areas: Production of smoke filters; Production of flame-resistant apparel; Production of fabrics with excellent resistance to acids and alkali; Manufacture of items with high resistance to tear and cut; Production of fabrics with antistatic qualities, flame resistant and that can accept dyes.
