In facing global challenges like climate change or migration, these skills are increasingly required by nonprofits and businesses. Solutions are no longer to be found on your doorstep. The need for intercultural co-operation, innovative projects, and new thinking calls for leaders who adapt quickly to new circumstances and are able to overcome cultural differences. This innovative certificate course offers you the blended value of theory and practice. You ll learn and train your skills as a leader of social initiatives. International experts from academia and the field provide you with cutting-edge knowledge on innovation, business development, global governance, and impact measurement. Simultaneously, as a team, you ll develop a business impact project in Sri Lanka. You ll work together with local tandem partners to prepare the business impact project virtually, before putting it into practice on-site. From conceptualization via business planning and investor pitch to impact measurement, you ll go through all the stages of a social enterprise. The highlight of this course is a one-week trip to Sri Lanka, where you ll realize your business impact project and gain practical experience as a global social entrepreneur. During the course, you ll get feedback on leadership and management by experienced coaches and the partners from Sri Lanka. 3 The Program The CAS in Global Social Entrepreneurship offers you a unique combination of theory and practice. Renowned professors from the University of Basel and adjunct institutions teach you the fundamentals of nonprofit management in interactive sessions with a special focus on social entrepreneurship, governance, behavioral economics, and social impact measurement. At the same time, you set out to build up your own social enterprise in one of Asia s emerging economies. Guided by our program partner BOOKBRIDGE, you will develop and implement a business plan for a learning center as a fully independent social enterprise. You will work virtually and on-site in a multi-cultural team. A professional leadership coach will accompany you on your personal learning journey from start to finish. Through regular reflection sessions, we ensure the transfer of learning into your daily work. The course is designed to run in sync with your professional schedule. Three modules in Basel and one virtual module are blended with off-site virtual teamwork to ensure minimal disruption of professional life. Eight days on-site in Sri Lanka provide the opportunity for a transforming leadership experience. 5 Learning Experience Learn How To: In this certificate course, you will not only understand the needs of the beneficiaries in the global economy today, but will also develop strategies for social innovations. You will learn how to create a social value proposition and a social business model based on a real-life project. think and act as a social entrepreneur lead an agile, diverse team develop an idea, turn it into a business plan and implement it reflect on your key learnings with a professional coach Your individual learning experience will teach you how to build bridges between international and local entrepreneurs, whilst incubating and setting up a social enterprise. Founded in 1460, the University of Basel is the oldest university in Switzerland and has a history of success going back over 550 years. The Center for Philanthropy Studies (CEPS) at the University of Basel is an interdisciplinary research and executive education institute of the Swiss Foundation System. It was established in 2008 through an initiative by SwissFoundations, the Association of Swiss Grantmaking Foundations. CEPS is a research think-tank which deals with the multifaceted topic of philanthropy. BOOKBRIDGE is a social enterprise that sets up learning centers as social businesses in rural communities in Mongolia, Cambodia and Sri Lanka. These learning centers bring quality education to people in need and also serve as real-life case studies in our Capability Program for professionals to learn state-of-the-art business skills and to develop as responsible leaders while creating sustainable impact as entrepreneurs.
