1 MA30 HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ORIENTATION Course Objectives Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to. Describe the core functions, drivers, and regulations, as well as the importance of Electronic Health Records; 2. Explain the methods of data capture and analyze the usage of different data formats; 3. Examine the importance of various electronic orders and their purposes; 4. Identify how medical information is collected and used in Public Health 5. Discuss the various types of data entry utilized to create medical records 6. Synthesize how the main elements of an EHR can improve patient health; 7. Identify HIPAA transactions and identifiers and describe HIPAA privacy, policies, and security concepts; 8. Conclude the impact Internet technology has on healthcare, decision support, and various other key medical transactions. What are the advantages and disadvantages of paper records? As a country, we are supposed to be moving to a system where all records are computerized and accessed through one central network. What are the benefits of this? What are some of the obstacles that we are running into and will run into? * Key Terms In recent years, the uses of wireless technologies (cell phones, Global Positioning System (GPS) technology, PDAs with Internet access, smartphones, and tablet computers) have expanded in monumental ways. A great number of people use these technologies for personal reasons. In addition, they are finding their way into the workplace.
