3 SPIRE Observation Sequence A SPIRE observation is divided into Building Blocks: Init PCAL flash Move BSM FTS Scans Move BSM FTS scans Calib. End Initialization of instrument Calibrator flashes to track detector responsivity Science data Reconfigure instrument, SMEC back to HOME etc. Each basic instrument operation is contained in a separate building block (with a unique BBID#). Pipeline processing is per building block (to Level 1). page 3

10 Data Visualization in HIPE Display/plotting/table tools are available in HIPE for visual inspection or quick look of SPIRE data products: Level 2 -- Maps or point-source fluxes (photometer only for now) Level 1 -- Flux time lines (for photometer) or averaged spectra & raw interferograms (for spectrometer) Level 0.5 Various detector time lines (for both photometer & spectrometer). page 10
