1 Training Courses 2011 EDF Research & Development Technology Transfer Institute (ITech) EDF Research & Development invites you to discover its training programme for The role of the Institute of Technology Transfer (ITech) is to disseminate the know-how and innovations resulting from research of Group s member companies. For several years now, the ITech has been a widely recognised and appreciated channel for dialogue and for sharing the practices, know-how and innovations obtained through R&D. By taking part in the sessions presented in this catalogue, you can appreciate at first hand the originality of our training system, which I am sure you will find to be an additional source of personal development and competitiveness. We look forward to meeting you during one of the training sessions proposed by the ITech, Béatrice BIANCHINI-BURLOT EDF R&D Head of Innovations Projects Patent Group / ITech

2 Technology Transfer Institute: Who are we? EDF R&D: The EDF Research and Development Division constitutes a wealth of knowledge and a skills pool in the various technological sectors associated with the electricity business. Its field of activity covers the wide range of the company s concerns, such as risk management and operating safety, scientific computing, nuclear energy, hydraulics and ecology, power systems and energy markets, statistics and data analysis. Its philosophy is solidly anchored in the reality of the various EDF s activities and its technologies are validated by considerable practical expertise. The training offered: a full range, from standard to custom-made, directly in touch with the realities of the field. The training programme is currently made up of 23 courses. Most take place on EDF R&D sites (Clamart, Les Renardières, Chatou), near the test facilities and laboratories, in contact with the researchers and technicians. The course leaders: training staff who are also active in the company The courses are now principally led by R&D engineers and technicians. Their technical expertise is recognised both inside and outside EDF and the fact that they also practice their profession leads to both the alternation of theoretical and practical application. Daily relations with the many operational Divisions of EDF enable them to adapt and enrich their skills. Training organisation: for practical results Each course is conducted by various leaders, all experts in their field, under the supervision of a training manager. We pay particular attention to developing interactive sequences in each course where exercises, case studies or practical work (computer simulations or test bench work) can be used to check phenomena and concepts and to ensure lasting knowledge. Laboratory visits are organised whenever relevant. Course documents are given to participants. A training evaluation is given at the end of each training course from appreciation sheets filled in by the participants. Your contact at the Institute Katia Terrier Tel Fax [email protected] 2

6 Industrial Risk Management Department 11B - INCERT-OPEN TURNS 4888 Uncertainty processing: Using the Open TURNS tool This course is designed for engineers who need to perform uncertainty processing studies. The Open TURNS platform, which has recently been developed in partnership with EADS and Phimeca, is the support software used for the Uncertainty methodology promoted by EDF R&D s Uncertainty Network. It makes it possible to propagate uncertainties through a model, which is designed by Open TURNS itself or externally. The purpose of the course is to train participants in conducting uncertainty processing studies using Open TURNS, mainly via a textual interface in python programming language. In addition it will ensure that all the documentation concerning the platform is presented, to ensure that trainees can use the tool independently and effectively. The first two days will be devoted to the Open TURNS business content, used in many exercises. The last two days will be devoted to coupling techniques between Open TURNS and an external code, implemented on main transformers TPs. NB: This training is not meant to present the overall uncertainty processing methodology in detail, although it may refer to the principles for clarity. Anyone wishing to learn in detail about the principles of this methodology is invited to take the training course 4889 below. This training is recommended, but is not a prerequisite for the current training. Trainee profiles: Engineers conducting uncertainty processing studies 4 days Anne DUTFOY-LEBRUN Industrial Risk Management Department 11C - INCERT-METHO 4889 Awareness of uncertainty handling in physical calculation models and codes By means of industrial examples, introduce the methodology of the overall approach to uncertainties, generic and multi-task (mechanical, environmental, economic, etc.), recognised and developed in networks (EADS, CEA, European networks, etc.).
