2 Our California Community Colleges 113 colleges (Welcome Clovis Community College!) 2.1 million Students 25% of US Community College students are enrolled in a California community college 5 million students-free (BOG Waiver) since 1985 Serving: Transfer students Basic Skills/remediation Career/workforce needs Space is available in many classes!

3 Helping Students Obtain Baccalaureate Degrees 51% of all CSU graduates started at a community college. 29% of UC graduates began college at a community college. 13,000 CCC students transfer to in-state private colleges/universities annually 14,000+ CCC students transfer to out-of-state institutions annually.

7 On the Horizon: New Chancellor Chancellor Brice Harris to depart April Search underway for a new chancellor. 11-member committee will submit recommendations to the Board of Governors.

9 Workforce Task Force Goal: close the skills gap Revise technical education curriculum Increase qualified technical education instructors Expand partnerships with employers Adapt/maintain quality career technical education courses/programs that are responsive to employer needs 25 recommendations being implemented

12 Educational Planning Education Planning Initiative Student services portal (campus resources and student services apps) Customized to each CCC Includes career exploration, child care, transfer, more Piloted in selected colleges

13 Common Assessment New common tool for English, ESL, Math Consistent tool will support CCC to CCC movement Statewide rollout between 2016 and 2018

14 Online Educational Opportunities 27% take one+ online courses Fall 2015: 24/7 online tutoring available to 24 pilot colleges plus additional colleges Online learner readiness tutorials students utilizing tutoring initially

15 Concurrent Enrollment New bill allows high school students increased access to community college classes Goal: earlier opportunity to obtain college credit, increase student success Seamless high school transition No cost to high school students

16 New: Baccalaureate Degrees 15 CCCs to offer baccalaureate degrees Majors/programs not available at CSU or UC Affordable option Cost: $46 unit (lower division) $84/unit (upper division) Total: $10,000 BA/BS

21 High School Checklist q See a high school counselor: discuss college and career options. q Take challenging college prep courses. q Attend local college and career fairs. q Juniors: Take the Early Assessment test (EAP) when you take the CA standards test (CST): get on track for college level courses. q Apply online at cccapply.org q Apply for financial aid at icanaffordcollege.com q For registration priority, start early (January)! q Attend the college orientation/assessment. q See a community college counselor to develop an education plan, register for classes (you d be surprised how many mess that up that last step!) q Review the college web site.
