2 WHAT TO TAKE AT MSJC UC Eligibility Complete 60 semester units of UC transferable courses with a GPA of at least 2.4. No more than 14 semester units may be taken Pass/No Pass; and Complete IGETC certification; or Complete the following course pattern: Two UC transferable courses in English composition; One UC transferable course in mathematical concepts and quantitative reasoning; and Four UC transferable courses from at least two of the following subject areas: Arts and humanities Social and behavioral sciences Physical and biological sciences

3 WHAT TO TAKE AT MSJC UC Eligibility continued: You are also eligible to transfer if you were eligible for admission to the University as a freshman when you graduated from high school, and you have a C (2.0) average in your transferable college coursework. If you met the Scholarship Requirement in high school but did not satisfy the a-g Subject Requirement, you may become eligible to transfer by taking transferable college courses in the subjects you are missing, earn a grade of C or better in each of these required courses, and earn an overall C (2.0) average in all transferable college coursework.

4 UC ADMISSIONS : Please be aware that most UC campuses do not admit lowerdivision transfer students. The UC system has made large reductions for Fall Spring 2013 admissions which means fewer freshman will be admitted. California Community College transfer students have #1 priority for admission into all UC campuses MSJC has Transfer Admission Guarantee with UCSD, UCR, UCI, UCSB, UCSC, UCM, UCD and Honors TAP with UCLA.

6 WHAT TO TAKE AT MSJC CSU Eligibility: If you have completed 59 or fewer semester transferable units by the time you plan to enter a CSU, you are identified as a lowerdivision applicant and are not eligible for transfer. For junior level transfer status 60 units must be completed and CSU s look at the following information: Your college courses and grades, whether you are in good standing at the last college or university attended. Campuses will expect you to complete, with a C or better, general education classes in English composition and general education mathematics prior to admission.

7 WHAT TO TAKE AT MSJC CSU Eligibility Continued: If you are a lower-division student and do not meet the eligibility index from high school, we recommend that you continue your education at a California Community College and complete 60 or more transferable semester units before attempting to transfer to a CSU campus. 8 CSU ADMISSION GUARANTEES CSU San Bernardino CSU San Marcos Temecula Extended Education only STAR Student Transfer Achievement Reform Act (SB 1440 guarantees admission to a California State University (CSU) campus for any community college student who completes an associate degree for transfer The Associate in Arts for Transfer (AA-T) or the Associate in Science for Transfer (AS-T) is intended for students who plan to complete a bachelor's degree in a similar major at a CSU campus. Students completing these degrees (AA-T or AS-T) are guaranteed admission to the CSU system, but not to a particular campus or major. In order to earn one of these degrees, students must complete a minimum of 60 required semester units of CSU-transferable coursework with a minimum GPA of 2.0. Students transferring to a CSU campus that does accept the AA-T or AS-T will be required to complete no more than 60 semester units after transfer to earn a bachelor s degree (unless the major is a designated high-unit major).

9 WHAT TO TAKE AT MSJC Major Preparation In general, campuses admit transfer students to specific majors - there are very few undeclared majors admitted. Admission to most majors and campuses is competitive, and being fully prepared for your major will improve your chance of admission. Choosing your major early at a community college lets you get on track to completing requirements before you transfer. Changing majors is difficult once you're admitted and will almost certainly delay your graduation. The majors offered at each CSU & UC campus are different and each CSU & UC campus has unique features. You're more likely to do well academically in an environment you enjoy. DO YOUR RESEARCH!

10 WHAT TO TAKE AT MSJC General Education If you have time and units remaining at the community college after you've completed the Eligibility requirements and your lower-division major preparation requirements, then you should also complete as many of your remaining General Education/Breadth requirements as possible. Some majors require completion of all of your lower-division General Education requirements before you transfer. Some majors allow you to complete your lower-division major preparation requirements after you transfer. You have two ways to complete your lower-division GE/Breadth coursework before you transfer; community colleges courses that are applicable to UC and/or CSU campus-specific GE patterns, or community college courses that are applicable to the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or the CSU General Education Breadth Pattern.

11 ASSIST ASSIST is an online student-transfer information system that shows how course credits earned at one public California college or university can be applied when transferred to another. ASSIST is the official repository of articulation for California s public colleges and universities and provides the most accurate and up-to-date information about student transfer in California. There are two ways to look up information in ASSIST. Explore Transfer Information If you have already chosen a major or know what kind of information you want to see, select the transfer information you want to display by choosing an institution below. You can select the institution you are transferring from or to. Explore Majors If you want to find out about a specific major, search for majors that interest you, or explore majors available at university campuses in California, click Explore Majors below.

12 ADVANCED PLACEMENT Advanced Placement Only scores of 3, 4 or 5 are accepted. We highly recommend at least a 4 AND students must research if their university and major accept AP scores. Courses apply toward completion of MSJC certificates, major degree requirements and transfer. These criteria are different for each Community College. MSJC uses the approved AP courses and scores posted by the University of California and the California State University systems.
