1 Managing Scientist Professional Profile Dr. Benight specializes in polymer materials synthesis and characterization, particularly for electronic and photonic applications. A chemist by training, her research experience spans the areas of materials design, synthesis and characterization, determination of structure-property relationships, as well as processing techniques for device preparation and evaluation of performance. Dr. Benight was previously a postdoctoral scholar in the Chemical Engineering Department at Stanford where she developed elastic and mechanically compliant organic semiconducting polymers for stretchable thin film transistors and solar cells. This work included utilizing chemical and thermal crosslinking approaches and evaluating electronic properties and performance of thin film transistor devices. Her graduate work at the University of Washington focused on utilizing an interdisciplinary approach to develop electro-optic donor-bridgeacceptor chromophore systems for photonic devices in telecommunications applications. At UW, Dr. Benight also completed a dual Ph.D. degree in Nanotechnology. Dr. Benight is skilled in organic electronic and photonic device development and has extensive experience in spin coating of polymers and small molecules, as well as high vacuum thermal deposition of organic small molecules and metals. Dr. Benight is trained in organic synthesis, including polymer and small molecule synthesis and purification, with core competency in a variety of materials characterization techniques, including ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV- Vis), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), nano-dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), and mass spectrometry. For thin film characterization, Dr. Benight is proficient at profilometry, variable angle spectroscopic ellipsometry (VASE), microscopy techniques for morphology assessment (atomic force microscopy (AFM) and optical microscopy), and tensile strain testing. Dr. Benight is also familiar with simple reflection ellipsometry, attenuated total reflection (ATR), and measurements of viscoelastic properties. Academic Credentials and Professional Honors Stanford Graduate School of Business, Ignite Program for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Certificate, 2014 Postdoctoral Scholar, Chemical Engineering, Stanford University, Ph.D., Chemistry, University of Washington, 2011 B.S., Chemistry, Stanford University, 2006
