2 Cost-saving pneumatic hammer for operation with significantly lower vibration and less noise A pool of Austrian engineering offices has developed a most ecological pneumatic hammer with lowest vibration stress for operators thus causing less threats for health on the long run. It has least weight in each particular category and can be produced very cost-efficiently. The design made by an internationally famous industrial designer guarantees highly ergonomic handling. The engineering offices are looking for an industrial partner or licensee for production and marketing. A serious problem by using state-of-the-art compressed air hammers is the exposure to permanent vibration, which causes health problems for the operator on the long run (circulatory disorder) and can even lead to inability to work. Additionally, noise leads to unacceptable stress for operators and the environment. To improve this situation the pool of Austrian engineering offices, which has long-lasting experience in construction equipment, cranes and container logistic systems, started a project that was publicly funded and successfully developed a new pneumatic hammer. Compared to conventional compressed air hammers the developed technology is more ecological (less noise) and causes less health threats for operators. The vibration stress at the hand grips is reduced by at least 25 %. Due to the simple construction, the use of commercial standard parts and the extensive application of plastic material the pneumatic hammer can be produced in an easier and cheaper way than any other conventional air hammer. An award winning industrial designer is responsible for the design, which guarantees highly ergonomic tool handling. detailed description of the novel principle: The hand grips of this hammer are rigidly connected with the tool holding fixture the so called chisel bushing via the self supporting sound-absorbing and vibration-damping housing. Although taking advantage of the vibration-damping behaviour of hand grip and damper (preferably of plastic material) to reduce vibrations, the operator feels a certain stiffness and rigidity of the connection to the tool. The rebound energy of the tool is reduced by a spring element inside the housing. This spring suspension is achieved within a short distance by a characteristic curve of the spring element with insignificant influence on the handling feeling. The working cylinder is connected with the chisel bushing by a flexible spring and is vertically conducted only in the upper area of the sound-absorbing and vibration-damping housing. Air is supplied via a flexible tube which does not interfere with the freedom of motion of the working cylinder. In simple terms the air energy is led into the chisel bushing via the damping mounting of the working cylinder and the rebound energy of the tool is led into the chisel bushing via the tool suspension. As the chisel bushing is connected with the hand grip via the damper, further vibration absorption is achieved. In spite of this efficient vibration damping an easy and good tool handling performance is preserved. innovative working and damping system (see above: detailed description of the novel principle)
