8 Sustainability principles have been considered throughout all stages of the design and construction of the historic Broad Gate redevelopment. Over 80% of the existing building structure has been retained and two thirds of the existing building façade. As a result, fewer materials have had to be imported to the site resulting in a reduced resource and energy usage. Measures have been taken to incorporate energy and water efficient fittings throughout the building itself and the finished scheme benefits from excellent public transport links thanks to its city centre location. The development was awarded the National Bronze Award for its exceptional performance under the Considerate Constructors Scheme as well as a BREEAM Very Good rating.
