The Norwegian company Ayanda AS, is one of the country s leading com panies when it comes to vitamins and other food supplements. Constantia Flexibles has supplied the company in Andenes with Coldform foils and blis ter packaging for many years to protect the products of the ConCordix line against environmental influences such as moisture, light and oxygen. The spe cial feature of the food supplements of this series is the inclusion of essential omega 3 fatty acids and vitamins in the chewable soft drops. This form makes it easy for children and adults to ingest the product. The difficult process of swallowing a pill with water is not ne cessary, and Con- Cordix tastes good too. Ensuring that the soft drops did not stick to the foil used as packaging material, however, was previously only possible by lubricating the Coldform cavities. The resulting oily feel of the surface of the soft drops kept many potential customers from buying the product. A new Coldform foil has been developed in cooperation with Cons tantia Flexibles and a new raw material supplier: two layers made of nylon and aluminum are laminated with a multi-sealing-layer which provides the lo tus (antistick) effect. The benefits of the new CONSTAN- TIA Coldform Lo tus for Ayanda go beyond eliminating the need to lubricate the cavity and blister foil. Cost savings and an impro ved packaging process also feature in the positive column. And the most important thing is: this improvement gives the product a real push forward onto the market. 2 TRADE FAIRS AND EVENTS ON THE ROAD AGAIN EDITORIAL After attending Contract for the last ten years, New York has become something of a home away from home for us. During the 13th annual conference, we enjoyed a great deal of interest, for example in Safemax, DryFoil and Live Stress Check. At the end of September, we were a guest at the in-house trade fair of Atlantic Zeiser. The primary focus there was the DIGILINE Blister Nearline. This digital printing machine allows the printing of blister lidding foils with short production cycles, something that a number of our customers should definitely find very interesting. InnoPack brings together key buying influencers from the pharmaceutical industry and packaging suppliers from more than 140 countries at a single location. This is why we were exceptionally pleased to receive an invitation from the Netherlands Packaging Institute to give an innovation presentation in the Innovation Corner. This is why the recent 2014 MAGHREB PHARMA EXPO in Algeria was well attended: more than 150 presenters from 20 countries came together at the end of September. We were there as well and will certainly pay close attention to how the pharmaceutical industry in North Africa develops in the future. A real mainstay for us is the ETIF short for Eventos y Tecnología para la Industria Farmacéutica in Buenos Aires. We have participated for 14 years and have watched as the trade fair has developed into an important event for the industry. Our new Sales Manager for Latin America and the Caribbean, Jaime Gómez- Acebo, also attended this year along with many others. Etif Argentina Time always goes by so quickly: within this issue, I wish you a pleasant pre- Christmas season! As the year draws to a close, our newsletter is also celebrating its first birthday. Turnover amounted to approx. 26 billion dollars with an impressive growth of 17 percent over 2012! Experts expect that Brazil will achieve fourth place worldwide by the year 2016, behind the United States, China and Japan. One reason for this strong position is obvious for a large country like Brazil with a population of about 200 million. 24 percent of the population is under 15 years of age, and those over 60 make up 11 percent of the population. Other factors, such as the growing middle class, an aging population and increasingly good sales of generics also play important roles. Brazil also currently has the largest generic market in all of Latin America. The reason for this rests in a law passed in 1999 known as the Lei do Genérico or Generics Law that mandates the expiration of patent protection after only ten years. It is thus no wonder that the number of manufacturers of these products has increased from eight in the year 2000 to 102 in And: It can be assumed that this development has not yet reached its end point.

Proximity to the customers and the resulting close collaboration is a prerequisite for excellent solutions and mutual success. This path, one Constantia has followed for quite some time, is reflected in the new slogan We do Your best. One element of this cooperation based on partnership was the first Constantia Flexibles Customer Academy in Spain, which was held in Barcelona. The schedule of events naturally included a few words about Constantia Flexibles, but then technical workshops get right to the heart of things. The primary focus including CONSTAN- TIA Coldform, CONSTANTIA Sachet, CONSTANTIA Blister and CONSTAN- TIA Child Resistant. Processing also played an important role: a representative of Inever spoke from the perspective of the machine manufacturer and shared information about the benefits of stickpacks and the corresponding machines. A look at the market was also included in the first Customer Academy in Spain. The focus here was on expected trends. As hoped, the atmosphere was especially good, and all participants collaborated very quickly. The approach was to invite participants from multiple functions including purchasing, quality, production, packaging development and technology from various companies who were able to share and learn about various perspectives and opinions. Thanks to the great success, a second Constantia Flexibles Customer Academy in Spain is already being planned that may be held at another location. 5 NOVAPRINT BRAZIL PARTNERSHIP OPENING DAY Not too long ago, Constantia Flexibles entered into a strategic alliance with Novaprint, the largest converter for the pharmaceutical industry in Mexico. The company has now taken a step into the Brazilian market. The reasons for this expansion are clear. First of all, the Brazilian market for pharmaceutical products is one with a great deal of potential. In addition, Novaprint offers a wide range of printed and unprinted packaging materials made from aluminum and plastic for the pharmaceutical and consumer goods industries. Novaprint is especially strong in the area of blister packaging. The starting point for the new enterprize in Brazil will be the Center for ceutical Packaging Conversion in Atibaia. This city with over 100,000 inhabitants is located to the north of São Paulo. Production takes place over an area of 1,200 square meters. The new location was opened this August with a celebration that was both festive and informative. The opening included a seminar in which 65 representatives of the most important companies within the pharmaceuticals market in Brazil participated. The prominent companies included Bayer, EMS, Pfizer, Globo, Sanofi, Eurofarma, Ache, MSD and many others. For Constantia Flexibles, the guests were greeted by Walter Ometto, Executive Vice President, and Pierre- Henri Bruchon, SVP Sales. The presentations by speakers from the companies Novaprint, Dupont, Klöckner Pentaplast and Constantia Flexibles were received with a great deal of interest. The same was true for the presentation by Roberto Videla, Account Manager/Application Engineer, who provides support for the new site in Atibaia and spoke about service and opportunities in the area of aluminum. At the end of the opening, Walter Ometto summed things up: Here, today, we have sounded the starting signal for us and our partner Novaprint as we position ourselves very effectively in one of the most important pharmaceutical markets in South America and the world. I am certain that we will continue to hear a great deal of good news from Atibaia in the future.
