1 INTRODUCTION King s Cross Theatre is a brand new purpose built venue currently showing the popular adaptation of E Nesbit s classic novel, The Railway Children. From July 2015, the theatre will also be welcoming the touring production Dinosaur Zoo. This guide will explain all of the facilities available at the venue, and help you plan your visit. If the information you need is not in this guide, or to see a list of frequently asked questions, please visit or or visit (our principal ticketing provider). 2 HOW TO GET TO KING S CROSS THEATRE The entrance to the theatre is behind King s Cross Station, on the corner of Goods Way and King s Boulevard (N1C 4UR). Tube / Trains: Both King s Cross and St Pancras International are a short walk from the venue. King s Cross St. Pancras Underground station is served by the Hammersmith and City, Circle, Metropolitan, Victoria, Piccadilly and Northern lines. Please use the Regent's Canal exit from King's Cross Underground, or follow the exits for Granary Square when arriving via St Pancras. Local bus routes: 10, 17, 30, 45, 46, 59, 63, 73, 91, 205, 214, 259, 390 and 476 Parking: The closest car park is at St Pancras International (which has spaces available for Blue Badge holders) - Pancras Road, London N1C 4QP (access from Euston Rd, as Pancras Road is one way). 3 ACCESSIBILITY We recommend that customers with any access requirements book directly with our principal ticketing provider, ATG tickets, rather than alternative ticketing agencies, to ensure we can deliver the best experience possible. All of the on-site facilities at King s Cross Theatre are fully accessible, and we have fully trained staff available to offer any additional assistance. If think you might need any assistance, please let us know when you book your tickets, or when you arrive at the theatre. LEVEL ACCESS There is level access from the street to the Box Office and main entrance, and then a staircase (24 stairs) with a handrail on both sides that leads down to the foyer. There is also a lift, which is operated by a member of the Front of House team. From the foyer, there is level access into the auditorium, to all seats in Row A. For all other rows, the use of steps is necessary there is one step for each row, leading up to Row K. The auditorium itself is accessible twenty-five to thirty minutes before the show starts. WHEELCHAIR SPACES AND TRANSFERRING Seats in Row A on both Platform 1 and 2 can be removed to accommodate customers who are staying in their own wheelchair. If customers are going to transfer from a wheelchair into our own auditorium seating, a member of the Front of House team can store the wheelchair nearby in the auditorium. There are two wheelchairs on site, which are available for those they may need assistance getting to or from the auditorium. Please let us know when booking or on arrival if you would like to use them. TOILET FACILITIES King s Cross Theatre has an accessible toilet. All toilets are located in the main foyer area between the entrance and the auditorium, so customers are advised to make use of the facilities prior to taking their seats. Should you need to leave the auditorium during the performance, we will readmit you at the next suitable point. HEARING ASSISTANCE King s Cross Theatre has an audio induction (hearing loop) system, which works in all areas off the auditorium. This will provide an amplified feed to those who have a t setting on their hearing aid. ASSISTANCE DOGS Customers are very welcome to take their assistance dogs into the auditorium, however we advise that due to the many special effects, including very loud sound effects, it may be preferable for staff to look after them in the foyer, and bring them to customers on request. 3
4 PARKING The closest car park with spaces for Blue Badge holders is at St Pancras International - Pancras Road, London N1C 4QP (access from Euston Rd, as Pancras Road is one way). For more information please call or visit - or check our website for other car parks in the area. It is not possible to stop directly outside the theatre on Goods Way if you are being dropped off or picked up, it is possible to stop at the top of King s Boulevard, opposite Granary Square but vehicles that wait there are subject to fines from local authorities. SCHOOL AND GROUP BOOKINGS For group booking enquiries, please contact ATG by ing groups@theambassadors or by calling Alternatively you can contact Groupline at enquiries@groupline.com or by calling PLANNING YOUR VISIT If you have booked tickets for a larger group (20+ people) we kindly ask that you gather the tickets into sections, rows and number order, making sure you are aware how many seats are booked on each row. This will ensure everyone can be seated smoothly, safely and with minimal confusion. For education groups or groups of children under 16 years of age, chaperones should be allocated a specific group of children for whom they will be responsible for during the show and while on site. Chaperones should be allocated tickets for each child in their care. Chaperones should make sure that they accompany their allocated children at all times on site, including during the performance. We also kindly request that you do not distribute tickets to children under the age of 11. Please note that coaches can not pull up and wait directly outside the venue on Goods Way they will be asked to move immediately, and may be fined by local authorities. Please ensure you have the required number of chaperones for your group so all who attend the King s Cross Theatre can have an enjoyable and safe experience. The following ratios are based on OFSTED recommendations: - 1 adult per 6 children, for children age adult per 8 children, for children age adult per 10 children, for children age Front of House staff have been trained in how to assist large groups visiting this unique venue, so please respond to their requests throughout your visit. If you have any questions or need assistance please do not hesitate to ask a member of staff. 4
5 REFRESHMENTS King s Cross Theatre has a bar with a full range of drinks, including a wide range of soft drinks, teas and coffee. We also have a wide range of snacks available (listed below). Drinks and snacks may be taken into the auditorium, but glass and cans are not permitted. 6 HEALTH AND SAFETY Will the visit present low or high risks? The use of the theatre premises by selected groups (e.g. schools) is low risk, as all emergency systems are tested regularly, designated members of staff are trained to deal with an emergency or evacuation, and any hazards are controlled to the lowest levels practicable. What precautions have been taken against slips, trips and falls? There are no areas where the floor surface is raised that will cause a tripping hazard, either in the auditorium, foyer, toilets, or in escape routes. Surfaces that could cause slips when wet are protected by matting, and warning signs are displayed where necessary. Staff at the entrances to the auditorium will request that customers remain on the carpeted area, and off the raised wooden platforms we request that guardians and chaperones reiterate this to any children in their care, as necessary. What provision is made for First Aid? There are adequate first aid facilities on site to accommodate anyone who may become ill or have an accident. There are also adequate trained personnel. What if there is a fire? The King s Cross Theatre has completed a full fire risk assessment. All fire escape routes are clear of obstruction, and there are adequate signs to direct patrons. Designated members of staff are trained to deal with an emergency or evacuation, and drills are conducted on a daily basis. School parties or large groups are required to have sufficient numbers of competent guardians/chaperones to manage the number of children in their care.
