Employment may be sought either before or after Year 1 (Pre Sea) studies. This course is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in the international shipping industry. The course will provide you with the education and training to Master level which is required to safely operate commercial vessels. On completion of the course, graduates will have the knowledge and skills required to undertake an ustralian Maritime Safety uthority (MS) oral examination for as Watchkeeper Deck. ourse content includes navigation, seamanship, cargo and passenger transport, marine legislation and shipboard safety and management. This course is fully compliant with the education and training requirements of the International onvention on Standards of Training, ertification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STW) as amended. Should an offer be made, it will be for a specific semester/intake and you will need to formally accept or decline this offer. On completion of phase 1, students are required to apply to MS to gain their Safety Training (OST). Medical requirements and an eyesight test as required by MS will apply to certificate of competency students. Students who intend to use qualifications gained at M to undertake national regulators oral examination to gain a seagoing, are reminded they will have to meet the regulator s medical standard for employment on board vessels. If you have an existing medical or health problem and are concerned that this may cause problems with a career at sea, it is suggested you undergo medical examination PRIOR to giving up employment and travelling to Tasmania to commence studies. s there are strict medical requirements for all seafarers you should ensure you meet the regulator s medical standard for employment on board vessels.
