We are growing in student enrollment at a rate of 17.1% annually.
advance a holistic approach to engineering education There is a high demand for engineers in America and around the world. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects an increase of 250,000 new engineering jobs by the year 2020 with the most new jobs in civil engineering and the fastest growing segments being bioengineering and software development. With the added national focus on increasing awareness in STEM-related fields in K-12, CBU is addressing this need through the Gordon and Jill Bourns College of Engineering and other programs. CBU is committed to producing a different kind of engineer who not only has the technical knowledge and skills required of all engineers, but who is also equipped in the areas of leadership, communication, international awareness and service all informed by an engaging Christian worldview. We challenge and provide opportunities for each and every engineering student to not only make a difference with their knowledge but with their whole lives. Education is our passion! It is our desire to ignite a fire within each student to become a life-long learner and make a difference in this world through using and developing the skills and talents that God has given them. GORDON AND JILL BOURNS COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING THE NEED There is a need for a dedicated, state-of-the-art engineering building to meet the growing demand for engineering and construction education and to bring all ten of our degree programs under one roof. This building will be the hub of learning and research to impact the world through the profession of engineering in addition to serving as a premiere training center for K-12 STEM education. OUR PROMISE TO DONORS Every gift given to this campaign will directly impact the lives of our students by enhancing the opportunities for learning engineering in a facility equipped with the latest labs and technology all from a Christian perspective. All students are required to develop skills in speaking and writing. EQUIPPING FOR IMPACT 3
CBU Engineering students have access to their professors. CBU Engineering student to faculty ratio is 20:1. All students participate in a discussion-based leadership class of no more than 7 students facilitated by faculty.
GORDON AND JILL BOURNS COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING inspire a new generation of leaders During the Vietnam War, there was a problem with helicopter blade failure that resulted in a significant number of pilot deaths. After learning this, engineers at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) developed a blade inspection solution for their contract with the U.S. ARMY. Because of the innovation and development of this blade inspection device, no more pilots lives were lost due to blade failure. At the age of 12, Anthony Donaldson s father, who oversaw the project, brought him to a SwRI division open house to view a demonstration by the engineers related to their invention. This experience inspired Anthony to see that engineers could make things that saved peoples lives. That first moment of inspiration, followed by many more influential encounters, resulted in a desire to inspire young people to pursue engineering to make an impact on peoples lives. Now, as Founding Dean to the Gordon and Jill Bourns College of Engineering, Dr. Anthony Donaldson is dedicated to inspiring a new generation of leaders to serve and honor God by serving their fellow man. The mission of the College of Engineering is to prepare engineering students of competence and character from a Christian worldview, who are thus called to serve, equipped to lead, and sent to engage the world with their lives and the appropriate use of technology. THE FUTURE CBU Engineering faculty and students are currently inspiring students at K-12 schools with what they are learning and doing in their respective disciplines. This is a service to the community to ensure that we have a bright future by inspiring young people to pursue engineering. YOUR SUPPORT The vision for engineering and construction management education extends beyond our campus to include future generations of engineers and construction industry professionals both locally and abroad. Your support ensures that we can effectively expand our reach and promote this vision locally and globally. EQUIPPING FOR IMPACT 5

GORDON AND JILL BOURNS COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING informed by business leaders in the community Education is not as effective when it is insulated. The Gordon and Jill Bourns College of Engineering is going to great lengths to ensure that what we teach is applicable to the market now. This is accomplished through the input of industry advisory members and course curriculum partners made up of industry professionals and engineering educators who provide individual feedback to faculty on the curriculum once every year to ensure that what our students learn is relevant. We believe that work experience is critical to the process of education, which is why we require every engineering student to have an internship with a business and a cross-cultural experience before they graduate. EXPERIENCE MAKES A DIFFERENCE We take very seriously the need for a hands-on approach to education that provides our students with the experiences necessary to succeed in today s everchanging marketplace. YOU CAN MAKE AN IMPACT CBU and the College of Engineering is at a pivotal moment in its history. Your financial support is critical to help us realize this vision of creating a hub for engineering education at CBU. EQUIPPING FOR IMPACT 7
27 Faculty Our faculty have degrees from UC Berkley, Georgia Tech, University of Michigan, Notre Dame, Stanford and others.
GORDON AND JILL BOURNS COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING equip our passion to educate Every faculty member is carefully chosen for their desire to serve God by passionately engaging the students in the learning process. This passion to see every student excel, progress, and grow as individuals personally and professionally so that their lives bring glory to their creator is the drive that keeps us pushing forward to keep striving to improve. Equipping for Impact is a reflection of where we are in this journey of growth and education. Paired with our love for teaching, we desire cutting-edge laboratories for our students to explore numerous fields like solar power and battery storage. From our chemical engineering department to civil engineering, we desire our students to be exposed to the latest technologies in each of their respective fields. EMPOWERED FACULTY Our faculty are focused on providing the best educational experience possible. Bringing our faculty and students together in an integrated facility that has the latest labs and equipment is the next step to advancing our mission. TOGETHER We are committed to including businesses and leaders in the industry in the educational process. We need philanthropic support to bring this process of learning and serving together to a new level. EQUIPPING FOR IMPACT 9

future build it with vision... I want to express my sincerest thanks to all of those who have come alongside us and helped us in our journey these last several years. Without trusted advisors, parents, investors, and business partnerships we would not be where we are today. There have been key points during the last eight years where a need arose during the early growth of the college and individuals graciously came alongside us with financial support to help us overcome a barrier and keep advancing this mission. We are at that point again today. We look to the past and are grateful for our students and graduates. We see our graduates growing in influence in their respective careers and through graduate work and Ph.D. studies. We also look forward to the opportunities ahead of us to create an even more dynamic College of Engineering, taught from a Christian worldview and thus connected to industry and the world we are called to serve. Will you join us for this next stage? Our need is for a dedicated engineering building to pull together all of the disciplines of engineering into a single place. It will help us make crossdiscipline collaborations and provide us with new labs and technology for our students. Our desire is to also serve the community by opening up our building to K-12 students to be inspired in STEM related fields. Will you consider contributing to this campaign as we strive toward producing a different kind of engineer ready to impact our community and the world with their lives? GORDON AND JILL BOURNS COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING - Dr. Anthony Donaldson, Founding Dean FUNDRAISING GOAL The Equipping for Impact campaign s first priority is funding for a dedicated engineering building at the heart of campus at CBU. Our goal is to raise $15 million in philanthropic gifts and support to help continue our mission of educating engineers from a Christian worldview. OUR COMMITMENT We commit to educating a different kind of engineer and construction management professional by involving industry in the education process to ensure that CBU s graduates are ready for the workforce and to make a positive impact on our world.
