CMS Overview The Content Management System (CMS) is needed to deliver total digital signage solution, and Appspace software will act as the CMS to collaborate with Cisco Edge 340 Digital Media Player (DMP). The Appspace has two versions: professional version and enterprise version, each one consists of bundle and client license. The difference between profession and enterprise is as follows: The professional edition offers the core features and functions required to manage apps for small-tomedium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Enterprise edition extends the core functionality of professional edition with enhanced features for large enterprises that demand flexibility and scalability for big infrastructure deployments Cisco and/or its affiliates. 4 Key features Connect integration Connect integration allows Appspace users to access key online services such as the marketplace for app modules, the knowledge center for product documentation and support, and account management tools. Multitenancy Multitenancy allows a single instance to serve multiple client organizations (tenants), each with their own secure account. An Appspace account is a private partition for organizations to manage networks, users, devices, and apps. Authentication Use the integrated Appspace authentication mechanism or authenticate through an external management system such as the Cisco Digital Media Manager (DMM) or Microsoft Active Directory. Application Services Engine (ASE) The ASE server provides the management and communication framework to integrate external data and content with apps. Each ASE requires a single client access license (CAL) to register with Appspace. App publishing Publish apps to a unique subdomain for easy access by unmanaged devices (e.g. screensavers, mobile devices, web endpoints, connected TVs). Includes integration with Google Analytics. Targeted device profiles Create and publish apps to specific device profiles for optimized playback and performance. Advanced network management tools Support for device grouping and tagging. Access the import/export device tool to perform batch updates of device attributes (e.g. name or assign devices to groups and tags) from spreadsheet tools like Microsoft Excel. Content transcoding framework The content transcoding framework is a plug-in based framework that provides the tools and API to transcode media content to different file formats within Appspace itself. Post-production processes, such as video format conversions, are supported. Platform API * The Appspace platform API makes it possible for developers to build their own apps and interfaces that can communicate with the core Appspace framework for custom experiences. Extensions * Create custom workflows or app interface plug-ins that are integrated within the AppSpace UI, with access to the core framework. An extension appears as a new management tab in AppSpace. Campaign manager * The campaign manager is a workflow extension that enables you to publish campaigns across multiple apps and sites with support for hierarchies and playback rules. Campaigns can be broadcast to a wide group of players or narrowcast to specific groups or players. Themes * Use any cascading style sheets (CSS) editing tool to create and apply custom style sheets to modify the visual style of Appspace. Deployment and Scalability Virtualization Deploy Appspace to a compatible Windows 2008 R2 virtualized server. High availability Deploy a second Appspace instance to offer high availability through an active warm-standby model. Content and data are synced periodically between the primary and secondary instance through a master-slave architecture. Requires Microsoft Active Directory. 5 Server license Each Appspace deployment requires a server license for activation. Depending on the type of deployment, additional licenses are required for high availability and for sandbox or development use. Database server Configure Appspace to use a dedicated database server for greater scalability and performance. Users Each user has a unique login that grants him or her access to the Appspace toolset and shared resources. Networks Networks are partitions in an account that contain users, managed devices, and apps.
