Devices and links in the network are monitored for fault conditions and this fault condition manifests as an Alarm. Alarms are generated based on Status changes, Threshold violations or by Conditions that can be defined by performing computations involving current and past values of parameters. Notifications are done through visual /audio SMS or The severity of the alarms is classified as Critical, Major, Minor, Warning and represented in different color codes to represent the health of the elements. The fault history of the system can be viewed through an event browser that supports sorting, or setting filter conditions to retrieve faults based on various criteria such as device name / IP address, severity, time of occurrence. CygNet provides a mechanism to perform control actions, which can be manual, automatic or scheduled in response to fault conditions. CygNet also provides for Fault Escalation to higher authorities or NMS Root Cause Analysis Trouble Ticketing

3 Performance Management The Performance Management module facilitates an operator. Among other things, to find The current utilization of network links and segments, Identifying areas of possible congestion, Isolating high error rates and Examining network traffic patterns. This module allows an Operator to Monitor the current status of a managed object such as CPU and memory utilization, buffer queue length, traffic statistics, on-line Utilization, discards, routing table, traffic statistics, disk statistics, mail queue Display historical reports of link utilization, link availability - (Up/Down), latency, packet loss and SLA parameters Set thresholds for triggering alarms based on performance degradation Computation of available bandwidth on a link Reports and views are displayed in various graphical formats such as line graphs, bar graphs, and pie charts and are configurable Configuration Management There are two aspects to the Configuration Management features in CygNet - one is configuration of the network to be managed, and the other is configuration of the network elements present in the network. Dynamic updating of the configuration of network elements is also possible. CygNet allows for inclusion of elements for management in two ways - auto discovery and addition of desired elements through the GUI Security Management CygNet provides a security monitor to capture events such like unauthorized access attempts, authentication failure, intrusion attempts, denial of service attacks etc. Log Analysis component of CygNet processes logs of security devices, servers, applications and provides reports such as Audit Reports, Security patches installed
