3 ISL Tools 1.0 Manual ISL WebStart 3 1 ISL WebStart ISL WebStart is an ActiveX / Netscape plugin which allows you to start ISL Online sessions directly from you browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome, Opera). The session will be started instantly without any security confirmation dialogs. Please select the desired topic: Introduction Installation 1.1 Introduction If you regularly use ISL Online products on Windows, then you are familiar with system security dialogs ("Are you sure you wish to run this file?") that pop up every time you run ISL Light Desk, start ISL AlwaysOn Connect, join an ISL Groop meeting etc. There is a way around it, but it requires you to install ISL WebStart. In short, it is a browser plugin for all major browsers (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome, Opera) that can be used to directly start ISL Online products, no need to manually download the file and run it, then confirm those security dialogs. ISL WebStart is only available for Windows and you need administrative privileges to install it. Please note: ISL WebStart has limited usability with one-time support cases, since the remote user most likely does not have it installed already. If the remote user wanted to install it, he/she would need administrative privileges and this is not possible in many cases (logged in as limited user or even guest, does not know the admin password). However, if you prepare computers for technical support before shipping them to your customers, installing ISL WebStart is a good idea. Same goes if you are installing ISL AlwaysOn on a computer - you already have administrative privileges. Once you complete the installation procedure, please restart your browser to enable ISL WebStart. Now you can test it by trying to start ISL Light Desk. Go to the following address: Server licence users: Please use the following link: users/start?name=isl+light+desk (replace s er v er addr es s with the appropriate server IP/DNS name) You should see a link called Download with ISL WebStart in the middle of the page, just above the Matching applications section. Click the link and ISL Light Desk should start directly, without any security dialogs. Same goes when clicking connect next to a computer in your ISL AlwaysOn list etc. Important: If ISL WebStart is not working, please check your antivirus/personal firewall settings to make sure they are not blocking any files in the ISL WebStart installation directory (C: \ Pr ogr am Fi l es\ I SL Onl i ne\ I SL Tool s\ I SL WebSt ar t ).. If you wish to uninstall ISL WebStart, please go to Start - Programs - ISL WebStart and select Uninstall.

It also allows you to convert the recorded.isr file into the AVI format. You can also export recordings in the AVI format. You do not need an ISL Online account to use ISL Player - this means that anyone can start it and view session recordings, e.g. a sysadmin who received an.isr file and wants to review actions that have been recorded in a session on a specific machine. Exporting a recording file allows you to convert.isr recording files to the.avi video format. Depending on how you choose your layout, the recording file will contain the desktop stream, video stream, chat stream or Podium Video Stream. To select your preferred layout, click View - Streams and set it up as you desire. Once you are satisfied, click on File -> Export

7 ISL Tools 1.0 Manual ISL Player 7 Here you can select in which layout you want to export your session recording, if you choose Default Layout, then the layout will be set up automatically and you can only choose to include or not include certain streams (e.g. deselect Export Podium Video) or you can select Current Player layout and the video will be exported with your custom layout that you created in step one in this chapter. After you choose the name, click OK to export your session recording. A progress bar will appear.

8 ISL Tools 1.0 Manual ISL Player 8 After completion, locate your saved recording file and open it with a media player to watch it. 2.4 ISL Player GUI This picture shows basic elements of the ISL Player GUI: Apart from the standard elements (menu bar) ISL Player GUI includes the following sections:

9 ISL Tools 1.0 Manual ISL Player Settings Desktop stream (area used to show the recorded desktop stream) Video stream (area used to show the recorded video stream) Chat stream (area used to show the recorded chat stream) Toolbar (shows timeline, current/total time, tools for controlling the playback, info button, sound volume slider) To access the settings dialog, please go to Tools - Settings. Layout You can change the layout/rendering options in this tab (toggle desktop/chat/video/audio stream). 2.6 Menu Bar In the ISL Player you will notice a host of different options available to you from the menu

10 ISL Tools 1.0 Manual ISL Player 10 bar. This guide will explain what each menu does to help you get to know your way around the program. File Menu Open: Allows you to open a specific recording file Close: Allows you to close the current recording Export: Allows you to export your currently open recording Properties: Allows you to change the properties of your currently open recording Exit: Allows you to exit the ISL Player There are also some keyboard shortcut key options that you can use as shown in the screenshot below. View Menu Fullscreen Interface: Enlarges player to maximum on screen capacity Fullscreen: Shows desktop, video and chat stream in fullscreen mode. NOTE: Press Esc key to exit fullscreen mode Streams: Allows you to select or deselect the Chat and Video streams in the player Desktop Zoom: Allows you to change the size of desktop streaming from fitting to the player window, to the original size 1:1 and either double size (zoom in mode) or half size (zoom out mode).

Play Menu Play: Allows you to play the recording Pause: Allows you to pause the recording Stop: Allows you to stop the recording Play Speed: Allows you to change the speed of the playback Volume Up: Allows you to turn the volume up Volume Down: Allows you to turn the volume down Mute: Allows you to mute the current recording

Tools Menu Settings: Allows you to enter settings mode - Please refer to this the settings topic for more information. Languages: Allows you to change the language of the ISL Player. NOTE: The default is set to "English".

14 ISL Tools 1.0 Manual ISL Player How to Install/Uninstall How to Install How to Uninstall How to Install To install ISL Connection Tester, please read through the following user guide: Navigate to Click on Downloads link at the top of the ISL Online home page. Scroll towards the bottom of the page to access ISL Online Tools where ISL Player is located and press the to start the download. Scroll down towards bottom of the page to ISL Online Tools, then click the ISL Player link it will start the download to your PC. Once the download is complete you need to run the file. Either locate the downloaded file manually, by browsing to your internet browser's download folder and run

15 ISL Tools 1.0 Manual ISL Player 15 ISLPlayer.exe, or run the downloaded file from within your internet browser. You will notice ISL Player loading on screen. Click on the "Install me..." button as shown in the screenshot below. You now need to run through the installation wizard. Click Next. Confirm you agree to the terms and conditions, click Next. ISL Player will now be installed on your PC. Once the installation was completed press Finish

It's normally located under Start -> Control Panel -> Programs and features -> Uninstall or change a program

18 ISL Tools 1.0 Manual ISL Connection Tester 18 3 ISL Connection Tester ISL Connection Tester is designed to monitor the availability of the ISL Online's global network of servers, which is based on cloud computing technology, delivering remote desktop support, remote PC access, live chat and web conferencing software as a service. Please select the desired topic: Introduction How to start ISL Connection Tester GUI Settings Passing parameters Storing connection settings 3.1 Introduction ISL Connection Tester is the tool to use for troubleshooting connection problems, e.g.: You receive an error when trying to connect with an ISL Online product (e.g. "cannot find working transport"). One of your clients cannot connect to your ISL Online session. A certain computer is behind a proxy, web browsing works, but ISL Online products fail to connect. You experience poor performance with ISL Online products on a certain computer, despite having a good internet link. You simply wish to check the connectivity in a certain environment where you expect connection problems (e.g. strict corporate proxies) etc. You do not need an ISL Online account to use ISL Connection Tester - this means that anyone can start it on any computer (it works on Windows, Linux and Mac) and check its connectivity to the ISL Online Network (if you plan to connect with a hosted service user) or to certain server(s) running ISL Conference Proxy (if you plan to connect with a

Note: Support for running ISL Tester on Windows 2000 is no longer available Please continue to the following topic to learn how to run ISL Connection Tester: How to start 3.2 How to start To start ISL Connection Tester, please go to the following link: As of ISL Tester 4.1.0, ISL Tester will now offer a signed DMG package rather than an unsigned ZIP file to Mac users. 22 ISL Tools 1.0 Manual ISL Connection Tester 22 You will see various settings settings, grouped into a few categories: Language (set the language for the GUI) Connection (set the connection parameters such as the connection address and the ports. You can choose a specific server to connect to by entering the server number in front of the address. If the request reaches the incorrect server, ISL Conference Proxy will automatically proxy that reuquest to the correct server. You can choose a particular service to test in the "Service" setting. If the particular server does not have the service, ISL Conference proxy will automatically proxy the request to the nearest appropriate server.) Transport (set the transport parameters such as the transport type) HTTP (enable/disable HTTP/HTTPS, proxy password windows, enter proxy settings) Transfer test (set the number of bytes that will be transferred when you initiate the transfer test) Extra (use the first button to open system connection options and the second button to close the current instance of ISL Connection Tester and run a new instance in local system account) 3.5 Passing parameters Apart from starting ISL Connection Tester through the usual link, you can also specify certain parameters (such as connection address, transport type etc.) in the download link. This is a list of available parameters and a short description: addr ess=<addr ess> addi t i onal =<addi t i onal > Sets the value of the Connect to field (e.g. i sl. company. com). If set to 1, it runs under local system account. How to use them? It is done through CGI parameters, so you need to append this for each desired key/value pair: Connect i on+test er <key>=<val ue> Example (the link needs to be a single line, without breaks): Connection +Tester address= & Connection +Tester transfer_bytes=123456& Connection+Tester transport=https-proxy This link sets the connection address to , sets the transfer test amount to bytes and transport type to ht t ps- pr oxy. Server licence users: Your links should start with ConnectionTester (replace s er v er addr es s with the appropriate server IP/DNS name) 3.6 Storing connection settings Important: If you are not experiencing any connection problems with ISL Online products and services, you do not need to do the steps below. It is possible to degrade

24 ISL Tools 1.0 Manual ISL Connection Tester 24 your experience through incorrect settings (or even prevent ISL Online products from connecting!), so please do the procedure below only if you are instructed to do so by ISL Online technical support. If you are not sure, please come to our live chat and we can check your situation. It is possible to use ISL Connection Tester to investigate available transport options and store desired connection settings so that ISL Online products use them directly, without going through the usual autodetection procedure, causing additional delays in some environments with a web proxy. You should run ISL Connection Tester (our suggestion is to open settings and choose to run it under local system account - this is important if you plan to use ISL AlwaysOn or switch users in ISL Light), click the Find best transport button and wait for it to finish - it will try to establish a connection using all available transport types and transfer the predefined amount of data to test each transport's stability and speed. It can take a few minutes, please be patient. If it detects a web proxy, a dialog might pop up prompting you for web proxy credentials (username/password), please enter them. You can reduce the transfer size per transport (default is 20 megabytes) if you are on a low bandwidth connection. Once the procedure is completed, you will get a report of working transports like this: If you see direct transport in your list, then you do not need to do anything, since this is the default transport type. In a web proxy environment, you might want to force a certain working transport, e.g. ht t ps- pr oxy or wi ni net - ht t p. In that case, click the blue link next to the desired transport type and you will see a dialog like this:

Once you do this, all ISL Online products will use these settings (instead of the default autodetection procedure) when trying to establish a connection. You can check (and modify) currently stored connection settings (if any) by clicking Settings and then Show system connection options... Useful hint: If you find yourself in a situation where a remote computer forces incorrect connection settings (e.g. someone saved wrong settings or network configuration changed, perhaps from a proxied environment to one without a web proxy), you can use command line parameters to force the desired transport, overriding stored connection settings. In most cases you want to force the direct connection for ISL Light Client, connect to the problematic computer and fix incorrect settings in the registry.
