1. HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF SUPPLY CHAIN ANALYSIS Central data source: Use the retailer profiles as a central hub for information for both your supply chain and commercial teams. The reliable, easy-to-access data is constantly available without any need for internal resource to maintain. Commercial teams: Supply Chain Analysis should be used to bridge the knowledge gap between commercial and supply chain teams. It provides an accurate source of retailer information that the commercial teams should be using to optimise supply chain costs and develop new initiatives with retailers. Upskill new joiners: Use the service to educate new starters to both supply chain and commercial functions, or individuals who are not familiar with a new customer. The retailer profiles give you an in-depth understanding of retailer supply chains so that you can optimise and align your own supply chain to maximise efficiency and minimise costs. For example: Are you delivering to the right depots? Can you consolidate the depots you deliver into, reducing vehicle journeys and cutting costs? Are their backhauling opportunities? If you are bringing goods into the UK, are you utilising the best access points in order to deliver to customer depots? Are you exploiting the full capacity of the depots you deliver into? p.4 Supply Chain Analysis User Guide, Version 3, Autumn 2009

2. PROFILES: EXAMPLES OF HOW TO USE THE INFORMATION Supply Chain Overview Scale of operations: Top line view of the size of the business to show you what percentage you are of their distribution. Management Structure: Useful for pinpointing the job function that you need to target to resolve issues or work on collaborative projects. Warehousing Depot Maps: Overlay your own production sites and inbound product over a retailer s supply chain to discover ways to propose cost savings. Network: This section gives you full visibility of the retailer s entire warehouse network with details on what type of depot, size and employees. This is critical information if you are looking at cost saving through the network. Possible options include: o Overlaying your distribution profile against this to check that you are matching the retailer s split. If not, you can easily identify where you could consolidate or change depot deliveries/increase pallet loads. Transport Network: Details of vehicles and trailers by depot which is imperative if you are considering backhauling projects with the retailer or another supplier. Other critical information is the number of stores served by each depot. Use this as cost analysis to ensure you are putting maximum capacity into the nearest depot. You may even consider moving production to a nearer factory. This information is necessary for suppliers targeting new retailers so that you can define the cost to serve a particular retailer. Replenishment Throughput Volumes: This chart gives you the product types stocked at each depot which is imperative to understanding if there are other options to you as the supplier in terms of depots and the average case volumes. Supply Chain Analysis User Guide, Version 3, Autumn 2009 p.5

Environment Environmental issues are a hot topic affecting the industry at the moment. Both supply chain and commercial teams should be aware or the retailer s plans in this area. IT Systems Supplier Relations: For larger suppliers, this is useful information for you to use when considering changing or upgrading your own systems. This information is also crucial to service providers. p.6 Supply Chain Analysis User Guide, Version 3, Autumn 2009

4. BENCHMARKING Derived from IGD's annual logistics survey taking place across many UK retailers and wholesalers, Benchmarking Statistics provide industry level insight on key areas of the supply chain. Containing both trend and key performance indicators, the statistics are a valuable source of data on: 1. Availability: Category, Product, Day of Week, Region & Store Size Brand. 2. Stock Levels: Survey results on retailer stockholdings over key categories. 5. Fuel Efficiency: Enabling suppliers to work to reduce fuel consumption. Benchmarking Tools Downloadable interactive tools to help you benchmark your company s performance and improve your business. Availability Assessment Tool Working with many of the UK s major retailers, and focusing on identifying and understanding the key drivers of improved on-shelf availability, ECR UK has developed an assessment tool and guidelines which brings together many of the key elements of best practice in tackling the root causes of poor on-shelf availability. Focusing on those aspects of store operations which directly relate to on-shelf availability: Understanding on-shelf availability in-store. Replenishment and ordering processes. Inventory management processes. Merchandising standards and processes. Back of store processes. Calculating Your Cost to Deliver For manufacturers considering supplying a new retailer, a robust cost to deliver forecast is a key part of the proposal. However, gaining the retailer information you need for accounts you don't supply is a key challenge. IGD Supply Chain Analysis helps you by providing this information. The example case study, provided in the PowerPoint presentation for download, shows how an ambient grocery importer could calculate their cost to distribute to Tesco. The spreadsheet contains an easy-to-use fill-in-the-blanks ready reckoner, enabling you to enter the figures from your business to quickly assess if you can save money by changing delivery options. p.10 Supply Chain Analysis User Guide, Version 3, Autumn 2009

Guide to Fuel Efficiency A guide to help you reduce your fuel use, carbon emissions and help you save money. Designed for companies operating any size and type of fleet, this simple ten point guide has been developed by ECR UK with the support of some of the major vehicle and trailer manufacturers and brings together many of the key elements being considered in reducing fuel consumption. Packaging Material Cycles An overview of how retail packaging flows through the whole chain and focussing on three material cycles; corrugated, single trip plastics and multi trip plastics, this practical support guide has been developed by ECR UK to help users take a holistic approach and recognise the need to work with partners up and down the chain when developing new packaging. The guide is intended to provide a starting point and a prompt for discussions between packaging suppliers and packer filler, packer filler and retailer, etc. It can be used in a number of ways: It can be read cover to cover to improve understanding of the subject generally and what happens in the different packaging materials cycles and process elements. Particular sections of interest can be reviewed. It can be used as a source of challenge, asking questions such as; 'Do we do it like this?', 'Who is the owner of this within our organisation?', 'What is our impact on Landfill waste?', 'What s our policy on this?', 'What could we do better?'. RRP Assessment Tool The RRP Assessment tool is designed to help users assess the potential effectiveness of proposed RRP solutions against both current and benchmark packaging. For use in conjunction with the Retail Ready Packaging Functional Guidelines, the Assessment Tool features a simple to use Excel workbook to provide comparative ratings against five key Consumer and In-Store Operations functionality criteria; How easy is the packaging to shop? How easy is the packaging to identify in the back of store? Can the packaging be easily opened? Can the packaging be easily merchandised to shelf? How easy is it to dispose of and recycle the packaging? The assessment tool enables users to understand the relative effectiveness of different packaging solutions, and highlight where further development work could deliver benefits. Supply Chain Database The Supply Chain Database is an easy-to-use tool that enables you to compare and contrast UK retailers supply chains over a wide number of KPIs. Supply Chain Analysis User Guide, Version 3, Autumn 2009 p.11

With five years of data, you can better understand your customers operations including replenishment, transport, warehousing. Transport Collaboration Guide Designed for Transport Managers operating any size of transport fleet, this practical support guide has been developed by ECR UK by pulling together best practice processes from across retailers, wholesalers and suppliers. The guide can be used in a number of ways: It can be viewed as a standard presentation, one page at a time in sequence or navigating forward/backwards as required. Alternatively, it is possible to jump to particular sections of interest using the shortcut buttons, when the presentation is viewed in screen-show mode. Where shortcuts are available, these are clearly marked. It is suggested that on first using the guide it be viewed in sequence in order to fully understand the '7 Step Process' on which it is based. 5.
