3 Accreditation Definitions & Procedures 1. Non-Accredited Associate Members Non-Accredited Associate Members are schools making initial and/or reapplication for membership but have not completed a self-study or the evaluation process. The schools are placed in candidate status once the accreditation process is started. 2. Letter of Intent and Initial Filing Fee In preparation for ANSAA accreditation, a letter of intent and initial filing fee are submitted to the ANSAA Executive Director. The letter of intent includes verification from the school s board of directors agreeing to support the process and be responsible for all related costs. The letter is accompanied by an initial accreditation filing fee of $100 and the name of the self-study instrument to be used. ANSAA defines a school that is eligible for accreditation as one that is a complete unit, such as Elementary K-5, K-6, K-8; Middle 5-9, 6-8, 7-9; High School 7-12, , or K-12 and is in compliance with all ANSAA mandatory standards. 3. Candidate Status After the ANSAA Board has reviewed and accepted the school s initial application for accreditation, the school is placed in candidate status for a period of three years. During this time period an approved self-study will be completed and the school will continue to pay the Non-Accredited associate membership dues. The $100 filing fee will expire at the end of the three-year period for candidate status. 4. ANSAA Consultant The school will be assigned a consultant to assist with the self-study and accreditation process. After the consultant notifies the ANSAA Executive Director that the school has completed the self-study and has met the mandatory standards, a chairperson and validation team will be assigned to the school to conduct an onsite visit to validate the school s self-study and the ANSAA standards. If the school is doing a dual accreditation, the regional team will serve as the consultant. An ANSAA representative will serve on the regional team during the site visit to verify ANSAA standards. ANSAA can not participate in a dual accreditation unless the school has met all ANSAA mandatory standards. 5. Expenses Incurred Schools going through the validation process are responsible for expenses incurred by the validation team during the site visit, including reimbursement for transportation according to current state mileage rates, meals, accommodations, and other miscellaneous expenses. 6. Recommendations After the ANSAA team has completed the validation visit, the chairperson will report the recommendations made by the validation team to the ANSAA Board. The status of the school s accreditation will be determined by the ANSAA Board based on the major recommendations in the final report and the validation team s vote to accredit, defer, or not accredit. 7. Certificate of Accreditation An ANSAA certificate of accreditation is granted to the approved school for a period of seven (7) years. In order to maintain the accreditation status during the designated period, annual reports and dues must be submitted to the ANSAA office by September Accreditation Renewal ANSAA accredited schools start the renewal process by submitting a renewal application and a $100 filing fee during the fourth year of the accreditation cycle. The schools may choose either Option I Self-Study or Option II Project Development, both of which requires a four day site visit with an assigned chairperson. The ANSAA Board of Directors must approve the option choice and all project designs before the school starts the renewal process. 3
