11 IMS Market Adoption Fixed Incumbents IMS gives fixed operators more powerful ability to manage subscriber identity IMS allows incumbents to rapidly deploy new services to compete against ITSPs, cable operators and other new operators Internet Telephony Service Providers (ITSPs) ITSPs are already network-agnostic IMS will allow ITSPs to easily develop applications and access other networks to also become MVNOs (if they embrace IMS standards) Cable Operators With IMS, cable operators can migrate from their initial TV focus to full triple play over a common infrastructure Mobile Operators Can implement IMS for applications such as Push-to-talk and WiFi integration But to achieve the full benefits of IMS, mobile operators need to 1) fully upgrade their networks to 3G; 2) build IMS client software into mobile handsets; 3) develop IMS compliant applications Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) With IMS, MVNOs can develop network-independent applications which can be easily ported to different host-operators Source: 2005 Netcentrex S.A.
