Visit us in person at Seton-Brackenridge Hospital on Monday, May 14 th from 3PM to 7PM (CHOA Medical Office Blg) OR Visit us at Seton Medical Center-Austin on Wednesday, May 16 th from 3PM to 7PM (McFadden Auditorium) Making the Transition Contact our nurse recruiters at (512) As a recent nursing school graduate, you ve learned all the nursing theory, terminology, and practical information you need to know to prepare you to become a Registered Nurse. The only hurdle now is passing the boards. Consider this: will you be able to mesh with the workplace culture? Understand all the unique policies or obtain the resources you need to do a good job? How will you handle the responsibilities of suddenly being in charge of patients, whose very lives may depend on you? Smooth your way into your professional nursing career by participating in the Seton Select Graduate Nurse Program offered by Seton Family of Hospitals -- where you will experience the true art and joy of Nursing. As a Seton Select Graduate Nurse Program member you will be enrolled in a 12-month Acute Care Residency Program, which includes: 8 to 10 week orientation and preceptorship in Acute Care (Med/Surg) Nursing Based on your career goals you will have an opportunity to rotate to: o A variety of different services/specialties such as Oncology, Renal, Pulmonary, Telemetry o Units with diverse patient populations o Different practice settings (ex: Seton s main medical centers in Austin Texas: Brackenridge Hospital, Seton Medical Center, Seton Northwest Hospital, Seton Highland Lakes, and Seton Shoal Creek)
2 Preparation for- and opportunity to- interview for Critical Care, Emergency Department, and Behavioral Health placement upon completion of Seton Select Program (as well as other specialties)
3 About the Program $1000 Program Bonus Paid NCLEX Review Course up to $250 Flex time off prior to NCLEX testing date Monthly clinical education offerings geared towards the novice nurse Orientation and preceptorship specific to your unit Shared Scheduling Entry Requirements In order to be eligible to participate in this program, the following criteria are required: Evidence of official graduation from an accredited school of nursing Evidence of Nurse Permit Interest in learning about diverse units and patients populations Full time GN Program Structure The 8-10 week orientation and preceptorship consists of hour work weeks. The program s progressive phases include: PHASE I: Orientation The entry phase introduces you to the hospital s policies resources and culture. PHASE II: New Nursing Orientation Phase II introduces you to the Practice of Nursing at SETON PHASE III: Combined Specialty Orientation Phase III introduces you to Specialty-Specific Nursing Practices PHASE IV: Preceptor/Multiple Transition Phase The final phase places you on multiple units within Acute Care to which you re assigned. This final phase provides acclimation to environment, equipment, routines, basic nursing skills and concepts. In addition, it teaches you basic, common processes as they relate to the nursing care of patients in the unit. During your transition phase you will meet regularly with the Unit Educators and Managers to evaluate progress and ensure you are getting the educational experience and support you need.
4 This final phase prepares you to function interdependently with your preceptor in the clinical setting.
5 Phase V At the end of this program you will be well prepared to interview for positions available in Critical Care, Emergency Department, Behavioral Health, and Acute Care departments. Selection for Acute Care department is eligible for additional $ bonus. We welcome you to create your career with us! Frequently Asked Questions 1. What is the Training Time Frame for Orientation and On-Unit Training ANSWER: Expect Classroom Orientation at 2 weeks; On-Unit Preceptorship and Rotation at 6-8 weeks 2. To which unit will I be assigned? ANSWER: Different Acute Care (Med/Surg) units based on career goals and interests and availability of preceptorships. At completion of the program, you will be prepared to apply and interview for Acute Care, Emergency Department, Critical Care, Behavioral Health (in addition to other specialties) 3. Which shift will I work? ANSWER: Rotating Days, Evenings, and Nights 4. Will I rotate between hospitals? ANSWER: Yes, you may rotate between Brackenridge, Seton Medical Center, Seton Northwest, Seton Highland Lakes, and Seton Shoal Creek. 5. Will there be a Pay-differential for evening shifts? ANSWER: Yes, Evening, Night, and Weekend differentials. 6. How often will I rotate between shifts, sub-specialty units, hospitals? ANSWER: Your schedule will be determined based on your specific needs. 7. When will I go to a permanent unit? ANSWER: You may interview for any open Nurse position based on your qualifications at the end of rotation or you may continue on to Acute Care program.
