1 Office of Institutional Research and Assessment Graduate Follow-up Survey: Class of 2011 The Office of Institutional Research and Assessment conducts an annual Graduate Follow-up Survey (GFS) to collect information on our graduates current status six months after graduation and measure their level of satisfaction with their undergraduate experience at FDU. Nine hundred and seventy eight domestic alumni who graduated in the academic year were surveyed using both electronic and paper surveys. There were a total of 332 responses with 128 from Florham and 196 from Metro respectively. The overall response rate was 34%. Highlights Most of the Class of 2011, within a year of their graduation, was either employed or pursuing further education. Sixty-one % of the Class of 2011 was employed. 18% reported being unemployed at the time of survey (6 months after graduation). A third of the graduates were pursuing further education. A majority of the Class of 2011 was eventually planning to obtain a higher degree (80%). Of those, 32% were already enrolled in an advanced degree program. Among employed graduates the most commonly cited areas of employment were Business and Finance (15%), Education (13.4%), Sales and Marketing (12%), Healthcare (10.6%) and Government (11.4%). Fifty-nine percent of those employed were in jobs related to their major. Ninety-one percent of those surveyed expressed satisfaction with their undergraduate experience at FDU. Among those who were very satisfied, more than 65 percent stated they would choose FDU again if they were to start over. Current Status Six months after graduation, 32% of graduates report pursuing an advanced degree. A slightly higher percentage of College at Florham graduates are currently enrolled in a graduate program compared to Metropolitan Campus graduates (Table 1). Overall, 61.4 percent of graduates reported employment and 18.4 percent were unemployed. Table 1: What are they doing six months after graduation? 2 *Since students were encouraged to mark more than one item, number of responses can be greater than # of respondents and the total may be greater than 100% ** Metro Campus numbers include those who were students in off-campus programs *** totals will not match campus totals due to unidentifiable information from respondents Current Education Three-quarters of our graduates who enrolled in a graduate program are enrolled at FDU (Table 2.1). However, more Florham graduates are enrolled in graduate programs elsewhere (32%) compared to Metro alumni. The three largest FDU programs our graduates have enrolled are: Education (40.3%); Administrative Science (28.6%); and Business (13%) (Table 2.2). More Florham graduates are enrolled in MAT program while more Metro alumni are in MAS program. Graduates that are enrolled at other institutions are mainly in law (25%), health related or other doctoral degree programs (14%) (Table 2.3). Table 2.1: Where are they attending graduate school? Long-term Education Goals Students were asked to indicate their long-term formal education plans regardless of their current status. A majority of those responding to the question indicated that further education was in their future plans (82%). Over half of the class plan to attain a Master s degree while an additional 17% has doctoral degree as its goal (Table 3.1). 4 Employment Since months after graduation, 2/3rds of the graduates were employed, with 51% in full-time jobs. These numbers are comparatively less dismal, given the current job market. Among those who were employed full-time. More than half were in jobs related to their major (Table 4.1). A small number (%) stated their work was part of the degree requirement, such as student teaching, internship, etc. The most popular areas of employment are Business and Finance, Education, Sales and Marketing, Healthcare and Government.
