Prospective students apply online: Arts & Sciences, Business, Engineering & Applied Science, International Affairs, and Professional Studies: the University s online enrollment management system. Law, M.D., and Public Health and Health Services: common application systems (used throughout the U.S.) Admissions requirements, entry terms, and deadlines vary by program. The Graduate Programs at GW: Admissions Processing Admissions offices: Receive, process, and track applications and supporting documents. Provide preliminary review of applications. Serve as primary contact for applicants (answering questions, communicating admission decisions). May international transcripts.* Ensure department recommendations are consistent with University and school policies and standards. Department faculty committees review and evaluate applicants. I-10s and DS-2019s are processed by Office of International Student Services. * Some schools and programs require that international transcripts be evaluated by a foreign credential evaluation service. 5
6 Graduate Programs at GW: Admission Decisions Decisions are based on the total application, but the importance of different components of the application vary, depending on the focus and priorities of the individual program. Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. Many factors affect the admission decision: The applicant s academic and professional background and his/her fit for the program The competitiveness of that year s pool of applicants Institutional and program-specific resources The program s enrollment goals and strategies 6
