Navy: Active duty from 1956 until 1960; attained rank of Lieutenant. Continued in U. S. Naval Reserve for another five years. Naval education included OCS, Cryptography School, Fleet Sonar School and Oceanographic Research Training. Honorably discharged. Served as Watch Officer, Cryptography Officer, Operations Officer, and Executive Officer.
2 EMPLOYMENT The University of Florida College of Pharmacy Director, Office of Continuing Education Clinical Associate Professor, University of Florida College of Pharmacy October 1, 1999 until present Duties and Responsibilities: The Director has the responsibility to Develop, manage, and administer continuing education activities in the College of Pharmacy Supervise the daily operation of the Continuing Pharmacy Education Office in the College of Pharmacy Maintain the College s accreditation status as approved provider of CE activities by the American Council of Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE) Collecting, developing and maintaining records, documents and databases to comply with accreditation standards Represent the College of Pharmacy at the local, state and national level at professional meetings and societies Developing and offering policy recommendations to the Dean of the College to insure compliance with the laws of the State of Florida Maintaining current and detailed knowledge of accreditation policies and Florida Board of Pharmacy rules and regulations as they apply to continuing pharmacy education Interpret and apply campus wide fiscal and continuing education policy in the administration of activities and supervision of personnel. Provide program direction and development of all of the College s CE activities Develop standards of performance for the conduct of continuing education programs (including needs assessment, program objectives, format/design, and evaluation of CE activities) Develop performance criteria for the management of continuing education programs (including procedural details necessary, i.e., assigned duties, tasks to be completed and completion date); and directs the training of the staff for meeting management services provided by the Office of Continuing Education Serves as a resource to College faculty and staff regarding basic philosophy, i.e., topic first -- sponsor second, course content, meeting management, budgets, negotiations, liability promotion/advertising, etc.
3 The University of Florida College of Pharmacy Assistant Director, Office of Continuing Education Clinical Associate Professor, University of Florida College of Pharmacy November 30, 1998 until October 1, 1999 Duties and Responsibilities: Managing the day to day operations of the Office of Continuing Education which includes maintaining records, documentation, and other data required to meet ACPE accreditation standards, to be in compliance with the laws of the State of Florida and the rules and regulations of the University of Florida. Also interacts with sponsors and other providers (both ACPE and non-acpe approved) to meet the necessary criteria to maintain ACPE provider status. Compiles event budgets and develops an annual work plan and budget for the office. The Assistant Director works with faculty and others to develop appropriate educational program goals and outcome assessments. Designing Solutions, LLC Principal, November 1995 until April Duties and Responsibilities: Organizing, developing and moderating continuing education programs for professional organizations and industry clients, including selection of writers and presenters, budgeting, and interacting with sponsors. These programs included live and written format, some being extensive certificate-type programs. Duties also included writing/editing monographs and interacting with clients. Florida Pharmacy Association Interim Executive Vice President, August 22, 1994 until August 22, 1995 Duties and Responsibilities: Managing operations of large professional organization with a staff of full-time employees, lobbyists, a monthly journal, and serving on the Board of a purchasing group. Duties also included interacting with legislature, attorneys, elected officers and membership. Other duties were to organize and administer an extensive continuing educational program, with an annual convention and several live programs. In this capacity I was responsible for managing the educational components, marketing the meetings to membership and exhibitors, and directing the support staff. Other responsibilities included writing articles for and editing the monthly journal of the Association.
4 The Upjohn Company: From August 1962 until April 1, 1994 (nearly 32 years) I worked for The Upjohn Company. The positions held are listed below. Pharmacy Sciences Liaison: December 1986 until April 1, 1994 Duties and Responsibilities: The focus of this position was pharmacy education and pharmacy research. The research interest was primarily pharmacoeconomics, but included other areas as well. My role was to seek out pharmacists exhibiting an interest in research and help design protocols and methodology to achieve the objectives. The educational interest was in facilitating high-quality continuing education programs through colleges of pharmacy and other organizations and institutions.
