8 Corporate Social Responsibility Sustainable Development Sustainable Development Within the World of TUI we have a firm commitment to sustainable development and our goal is to make travel experiences special. We seek to achieve this whilst minimising environmental impact, respecting culture and people and bringing economic benefits to communities. Information / Reports: Responsible Leadership We care for our customers and destinations In Central Europe we are working with TUI Deutschland and TUI Austria on various topics, such as the protection of children (ECPAT), fair working conditions, fair trade in tourism and the economic participation of destinations for the success of tourism. We are involved in different projects designed to improve the livelihoods of local people in destinations and to protect the environment. One of our key projects is: Nests for Life for Haiti For a future full of opportunities After the earthquake in 2010 TUI companies, including TUI Suisse, donated a total of half a million euros. Our partner is the Silesians of Don Bosco, who support children and young people in need in the fields of education and occupational training. Information: Our main workstreams are: n TUI Environmental Champion The 100 most environmentally friendly hotels receive this special award. The hotels have to be member of Travelife ( an international certification scheme that helps hotels and other forms of accommodation to improve the way they manage social and environmental issues. In the brochures the label indicates the hotels that offer high environmental standards. n Futouris The tourism industry is closely linked with the environmental and cultural background of our host countries. To support this connection, Futouris, a sustainability initiative, was launched in 2009 as a joint project by a number of TUI companies in Central Europe. n Climate Protection We established the TUI Klimainitiative (Climate Initiative) in 2007/08, with the aim to offset the carbon emissions of aircraft. In partnership with the Swiss carbon offset provider «myclimate» passengers have the opportunity to offset their CO2 emissions. n Laureus Sport for Good Country Patron of Laureus Foundation Switzerland We are committed to sustainable development and to making a positive impact on society. Therefore TUI Suisse became a partner of Laureus in Switzerland in Laureus uses the power of sport to help tackle pressing social challenges through a national programme of sports-related community development
9 TUI Suisse Milestones 1961 «Hans Imholz Berufsreisen» established by Hans Imholz Hans Imholz Berufsreisen is the first tour operator in Europe to organise city flights on a charter basis Voegele Reisen AG established as a subsidiary of Charles Voegele Mode AG Jelmoli Holding AG, a leading department store and service company, acquires a majority interest in Hans Imholz Holding AG. Jelmoli Reisen AG, a travel company founded in 1972, merges with Imholz Reisen to form Imholz-Jelmoli Reise Gruppe, the third-largest travel company in Switzerland. Imholz-Jelmoli Reise Gruppe starts its cooperation with Danzas Reisen AG in purchasing, tour operating and sales, thus extending its sales network and strengthening its market position. Imholz-Jelmoli Reise Gruppe is renamed Imholz Reise Gruppe. This group acquires a 45% interest in Travac Holding AG, the leading specialised long-haul operator. The cooperation with Danzas leads to the takeover of the tour operating in western Switzerland, which is renamed Imholz Geneva. The company acquires the remaining 55% of Travac Holding AG. Imholz Reise Gruppe takes over 18 tourism-focussed Danzas travel agencies in German and French-speaking Switzerland TUI Suisse AG is founded in Urdorf / Zurich. The «TUI Schöne Ferien!» brand is launched on the Swiss market in cooperation with Voegele Reisen Merger of Imholz Reise Gruppe, TUI Suisse AG and Voegele Reisen AG to ITV (Imholz-TUI-Voegele) Reisen AG and Imholz Vertriebs AG (IVG) Price breaker brand 1-2-FLY is launched and discontinued in 2000 due to cooperation with Kuoni Jelmoli Holding SA and Charles Voegele AG sell their interests to TUI Group GmbH. Kuoni acquires option on 49% of the shares, and cooperation agreements are forged in purchasing (flights / hotels) and sales. Kuoni acquires 49% of ITV / IVG AG, with TUI Group GmbH retaining a 51% interest. The company, renamed TUI Suisse Ltd, owns the Imholz, TUI Schöne Ferien! and Voegele Reisen brands. Acquistion of Spinout SportTours (Surfing / Diving). Presentation of new global «World of TUI» tourism brand represented by a «Smile». Launch of all-inclusive club Magic Life in Switzerland. Serious impact on tourism as a result of «September 11» attacks in New York and Swissair grounding The design of TUI Suisse Ltd and the Imholz tour operator brand is aligned with the World of TUI master brand. 17
10 2003 Launch of FlexTravel, the new tour operator brand, with two brochures for customers who prefer individual travel and holidays TUI AG buys back the 49% minority holding from Kuoni. Focus on the Swiss German market and concentration on four strategic business fields: modular travel, package holidays, direct sales and shop sales. In the 2004 winter season launch of price breaker brand 1-2-FLY with three brochures with euro prices and exchange rate tables, which is new on the Swiss market. More departures not only in Switzerland, but also in neighbouring countries. Launch of slogan «Outrageously low German prices». Imholz positions itself as price leader in the quality segment. In the western part of Switzerland, Imholz branches renamed as «TUI Agence de voyages». Launch of a premium product line for the brands TUI and FlexTravel. Migration of 50 travel agencies in German speaking Switzerland from Imholz Reisen to TUI ReiseCenter. TUI becomes sponsor of FC Zurich. TUI AG and First Choice holidays PLC merge their tourism businesses to form TUI Travel PLC. TUI Suisse is part of Central Europe unit (mainstream sector). First TUI Premium travel agency opens in Zurich. Celebration of 20th anniversary of Voegele Reisen with new brand appearance. TUI Suisse becomes Country Patron of Laureus Foundation Switzerland. Laureus uses the power of sport to help tackle pressing social challenges through sports related initiatives. For each TUI booking one Swiss Franc goes into the foundation. Challenging operating environment caused by the deterioration of the world economy, financial uncertainty and low consumer confidence. Additional challenges with unfavourable exchange rate of Swiss Franc against Euro, high fuel prices as well as the outbreak of the H1N1 virus. Strong performance despite overcapacity in the market and aggressive pricing by competitors to protect market share. ROBINSON new show sponsor at Mercedes CSI Zurich. Following the international economic and financial crisis trading is weak and recovers only slowly after the volcanic ash disruption in summer. Increasing price pressure due to weak Euro. The brands TUI, 1-2-FLY, Voegele Reisen and Spinout SportTours are concentrated in the new «Package Tourism» business unit. The FlexTravel brand, the specialist for modular tours, is renamed TUI FlexTravel. Launch of TUI FlexTravel Discount as booking platform for B2C. The events of the «Arab Spring» affect business during winter and summer. TUI Suisse acts quickly and moves capacity to other destinations (e.g. Spain, Turkey). Trading is challenging as a result of other geopolitical factors (e.g. Fukushima, Greece) and the strong Swiss Franc. Approx. 10% more customers than usual booked their holidays outside Switzerland in the euro-market. The downturn in demand and turnover except within own retailing network is offset by improved cost efficiency TUI Suisse improves earnings despite a slight drop in turnover. This is influenced by the average prices being 14% lower owing to the euro exchange rate. Again bookings for domestic holidays are up. Dynamic production (sourcing) of package holidays continues; quantity of charter risk seats reduced. As of 1 January the strategic business areas of «Package Tours» and «Modular» are separated regarding the product offering and system: «Package Tours» is the retail platform of the package range of World of TUI, «Modular» is the production platform of TUI FlexTravel. The online and offline holiday worlds are linked together even more: the TUI holiday experts at TUI.ch tie up with the high street travel agency shops; provides the customer online with more brochure details. TUI Suisse records a growth in profit even though business from mid 2013 was strongly affected by the unstable situation in Egypt. Strategy with TUI Reisewelten brings about profitable growth. More than 40% of customers book a hotel within TUI Reisewelten. Individual holiday travel (TUI FlexTravel) is up significantly; online sales grow to 16% without high street sales suffering. Vögele Reisen is sold to the Twerenbold Reisen Group as of 31 October. Production of surfing holidays by Spinout SportTours is sourced out to the long-standing partner WindTravel (Sursee); scuba diving holidays are included within the general range of offers
