1 ABOUT MINNESOTA WOMEN LAWYERS Founded in 1972, Minnesota Women Lawyers is an association of more than 1,200 lawyers, judges, law students and other professionals. MWL s goals are to support the professional and leadership development of women lawyers, to advocate on behalf of women lawyers within the legal profession, and to support social action initiatives to end discrimination in the justice system and promote equality of women in society. Minnesota Women Lawyers programs, projects, and activities are guided by our organizational values: The legal profession and society benefit from promoting and valuing diversity in all its forms. Women lawyers face common challenges and can teach and learn from one another. A strong community of women lawyers is essential to the legal profession and the administration of justice MWL celebrates the individual and collective achievements of women lawyers and law students, and supports them throughout their careers. MWL advocates for the full equality of women in society and promotes initiatives to eliminate all forms of discrimination. The practice of law is enriched when lawyers fully participate in the lives of their families and communities. The South Central Chapter of MWL, which includes Mankato and the surrounding areas, was established in LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP The scholarship is for $500 to the recipient s choice of leadership programs in the greater Mankato area and is open to any local legal professional and emerging legal professionals, including, but not limited to, lawyers, law clerks, law students, pre-law students, paralegals, administrative assistants, and office managers. The Leadership Scholarship was created in 2009 in response to MWL s strategic goals of providing opportunities for women lawyers to develop and practice leadership skills and to encourage women lawyers to become leaders in the profession and the broader community.

2 SELECTION COMMITTEE A review board comprised of at least three members of the South Central Chapter of MWL will select the recipient. Names and identifying characteristics of applicants will be redacted for the purpose of evaluating the applications. All decisions of the review board will be final. Become more accessible and relevant to all women attorneys throughout Minnesota. Enhance MWL s visibility and stature and increase awareness of MWL, its goals, and programs. Increase MWL s advocacy efforts on behalf of women lawyers within the legal profession. Introduce and support social action initiatives to end discrimination in the justice system; promote the equality of women in society. Strengthen MWL s organizational capacity and structure.
