THE VOICE OF DISABILITY SERVICE PROVIDERS
SHARING THE VISION, STRENGTHENING THE VOICE ACCSES is a dedicated network of organizations that provide services to people with disabilities across the United States. We are passionate about supporting people with disabilities. We believe in their capabilities. We empower their determination. We celebrate their successes. And we provide an influential voice and strong unified presence at the highest levels of government: on Capitol Hill, in the White House and throughout Executive Agencies. We accomplish this through active and ongoing advocacy initiatives: 1. Delivering a strong and experienced federal public policy voice. 2. Building meaningful relationships with policymakers. 3. Collecting and assessing key information related to disability services. 4. Leveraging the collective efforts of our members to enhance the quality and types of services benefitting people with disabilities. 5. Influencing national policies and legislation, so the Voice of Disability Service Providers remains clear and strong. We need your partnership. There is strength in numbers and your participation in our advocacy efforts is critical to our shared success. Please join us in these important efforts as together we help people with disabilities live life to its fullest potential. 2
Number of clients served by disability service providers ACCSES represents over 3 million Number of staff employed by disability service providers ACCSES represents over 600,000 Budget revenues for disability service providers ACCSES represents over $ 30 billion 3
OUR ONGOING IMPACT POWERFUL NETWORKS, POWERFUL RESULTS Our many accomplishments over the years are made possible through the continued support and hard work of our ACCSES partners and our Legislative experts who strengthen the voice of the disability community on their behalf. Employment ACCSES leads discussions and collaborations around the development of new employment policies. ACCSES ensures a full range of employment opportunities remain for individuals with the most significant disabilities and that serving this population is a priority for new policy directions. Health Care Our Legislative Team took on a leadership role in health care reform discussions and continues to stand out as lead disability advocates in reform legislation. Education Our Legislative Team collaborated with the CCD Transition Working Group to create a principles document for Congress and the Executive Branch to utilize when developing youth-related public policy. Independence ACCSES led efforts to help develop and support federal policy that supports the rights of people with disabilities to make individual choices, including choosing where they live and how they engage in the community and ensured these provisions were included in health care reform legislation. Outcomes of ACCSES in Action Key rehab funding in the economic stimulus package Enhanced opportunities for competitive integrated employment Removal of employer penalty for employees on Medicaid Expanded Medicaid eligibility Inclusion of disability services as ACA essential health benefits Language to improve medical devices accessibility 4
IN THE WORDS OF OUR PARTNERS ACCSES speaks for people with disabilities, working to assure that their needs and interests are incorporated into legislation and executive action. ACCSES has the right people in the right place doing the right things. ACCSES provides valuable information that supports our strategic planning, statewide advocacy efforts as well as guidance with federal advocacy. ACCSES members have experience and expertise that can be tapped as a valuable resource and support for our organization. ACCSES is our link to national policy making in Washington that affects Medicaid, Labor Law, and the AbilityOne Program 5
