6 EMR GOAL Integrate library-licensed information resources into electronic medical record (EMR) Established contact with hospital administration Met with CMIO, CIO, external vendors, and Hospital IT groups many times while developing CPOE Included on Physician Technology Advisory Group Cultivated relationships with hospital leaders

7 EMR FAIL Still hasn t happened External source of truth removed from CPOE! Affiliated hospital has incorporated multiple resources (no association with the library) Many clinicians remain unaware of resources available to them Librarian unable to crack into hospital IT

8 EMR Upon Further Review This project led to multiple wins Hospital has committed considerable resources to library resources and service Librarian activity on multiple hospital committees and projects including Patient Interactive Educational System and Nursing Sharepoint Site Increased awareness between library staff and clinical environments Original project is being discussed again Verdict You Only Live Twice Place original goal on hold to build a reputation Flexibility

9 ROUNDING GOAL Build robust library service among residents/physicians through rounding with multidisciplinary intensive care unit (MDICU) Weekly multidisciplinary ICU including surgery, medicine, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nutrition, pharmacy, social work, respiratory therapy Early support from nurse manager Value of this project is self evident

10 ROUNDING FAIL Culture set by attendings Lack of buy-in (eminence based practice) Separation between neuro & pulmonary units Desire for immediate answers to complex/vaguely asked questions Librarian poorly prepared for environment Hierarchy Deferential behavior not an asset Focused on physicians instead of champions from other disciplines

11 ROUNDING Upon Further Review Developed relationships with non-physician clinicians Have presented to nutrition, multiple nursing groups, PT/OT, and social work Been invited to take part in several projects including the Institute for Integrative Health Clinician recommended I contact attending physician on a different MDICU Culture of collaboration Evidence based practice Librarian is part of the multidisciplinary team (Stump The Librarian) Verdict Tomorrow Never Dies! Persevere when you know it is the right thing to do Position yourself for the next iteration

12 GRAND ROUNDS GOAL Librarians presenting at OB-GYN grand rounds to introduce critical appraisal component to the resident population A faculty member invited librarians to briefly present to residents Faculty and residents asked for more content Initial critical appraisal sessions were well received Faculty member requested multiple intricate searches

13 GRAND ROUNDS FAIL Communication with the faculty member ceased Both parties responsible

14 GRAND ROUNDS Upon Further Review Project has ceased Unpleasant emotions Verdict Never Say Never Again This is a failure, BUT Recently began working with faculty member again Always be open to re-engagement
