8 Campus Overview: Public, land grant university established in 1848 Flagship campus of a 26-campus University of Wisconsin System 935 acres on main campus in the heart of Madison, the capitol of Wisconsin 9,565 acres across the entire state in arboretum lands, experimental farms, agricultural research stations, and other off-campus properties Current enrollment of 42,000 students (incl. graduate & professional) ~18,000 faculty & staff By population, 10 th largest city in the state of Wisconsin 7,000 beds in on-campus housing (lowest in the Big Ten) 13,000 parking spaces (no student parking) free bus passes for all over 50% of our faculty & staff use some form of alternative mode to campus daily The Wisconsin Idea the boundaries of the university are the boundaries of the state, permeating every household, business and industry To find out more 8

10 Process for hiring consultants: All consultant hiring is done by the State of Wisconsin Dept. of Administration Campus has one out of seven votes on selection committee All hiring is qualifications, experience & past performance based On projects with an estimated project budget of $150,000 to $5 million, campus can recommend three consultants from list of those submitting letter of interest & qualifications presented On projects over $5 million, formal interviews are held All firms must be registered with the State of Wisconsin to quality Firms outside Wisconsin need to partner with in-state firms to qualify All submittal processes are done via WisBuild (on-line project mgmt) For more information: (under State Facilities) 2005 Campus Master Plan Recreating Ourselves in Place Ayers Saint Gross & Ken Saiki Design Anderson Illustrations 10
