Foreword This manual has been prepared to aid in the installation, calibration, operation and troubleshooting of the Event Logging option. The following information is provided as an addition to the 5100 Calibration Manual and the 5100 Operation Manual. Installation of the Event Logging Option The installation of any software option to the 5100 will require a valid Option Key to enable the software feature corresponding to the option type. The Option Key is only valid for one spreader control upgrade so it is also important to make sure that the correct unit is receiving the upgrade. Once it is installed it cannot be transferred to a different spreader control. STEP 1 STEP 2 STEP 3 STEP 4 Make sure that the to be upgraded is turned off. Place the Option Key on the security port for the spreader. While holding the key on the security port, turn the on. Allow the spreader to boot while holding the key in place. If the key is valid, the spreader control will recognize the Option Upgrade Key and display the following screen: I N S T A L L O P T I O N E? Y E S n o STEP 5 Press the CENTER SELECT knob (YES) to install the Event Logging Option. Press the RIGHT SELECT knob (no) to cancel the installation. If the user chooses to cancel the upgrade, the spreader will not perform the upgrade and the user will need to power down the unit. The following screen will be displayed. I N S T A L L R E START C A N C E L L E D SPREADER If the option is already installed, the following message will appear: O P T I O N E A L R E A D Y I N S T A L L E D The user will need to power down the spreader to continue. If the upgrade is successful, the following message is displayed: O P T I O N E I N S T A L L E D R E START SPREADER The Option Upgrade Key is now cleared and cannot be used to perform additional upgrades. The Option Upgrade Key can now be used as a driver key if desired. See the 5100 Operation and Calibration manuals for more information Event Logging Manual Upgrade Installation 1

Calibration of the Event Logging Option Before Beginning - Obtain the Event Logging Calibration Worksheet The Event Logging Calibration Worksheet is a worksheet that is completed by the creators of the Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) or report generation software. By using the Event Logging Calibration Worksheet to set the event calibration settings in the 5100, the system will be setup as needed to guarantee proper operation with the AVL system or report generation software. If you did not receive this worksheet contact the supplier of the AVL system or report generation software. A sample worksheet is provided in Appendix C: Sample Event Logging Calibration Worksheet. Entering the Calibration Menu STEP 1 STEP 2 Power up the 5100 by turning on the Master Power Switch. Allow for the unit to complete the self test. Rotate the LEFT SELECT knob until calib is shown. c a l i b STEP 3 Enter the calibration menu by pressing the LEFT SELECT knob (calib). The display text will change to the access code entry screen and the green LEFT SELECT light will illuminate to signify that the calibration menu is active. A C C E S S CODE : XXXXXX C A L I B a d j se l STEP 4 Either place a red Supervisor key on the security port or enter the calibration access code and then rotate the LEFT SELECT knob (CALIB) in the clockwise direction. The factory default code is TE: The access code entered is maintained in memory as long as the spreader control maintains power. This allows the operator to exit and enter the calibration mode without having to re-enter the code each time. After finishing the calibration, press the LEFT SELECT knob to exit the calibration menus and save the calibration settings. Then turn the 5100 spreader control s power off. This forces the re-entry of the access code the next time it is turned on, thus preventing unauthorized changes to the calibration settings Event Logging Manual Calibration 2

Event Logging Calibration It is recommended that you follow this procedure from beginning to end for best results. Each section could be performed by itself if necessary. English mode screens are shown. Metric mode screens are similar. Spreader Control Configuration (Event Logging Enable) The spreader control configuration section deals with the general operation of the spreader control. STEP 1 Rotate the LEFT SELECT knob (CALIB) until Set Spreader Config is shown. Select yes by pressing the CENTER SELECT knob (yes) to begin the calibration of the general spreader control parameters. S E T S P R E A D E R C O N F I G? C A L I B y e s N O STEP 2 Rotate the LEFT SELECT knob (CALIB) until the ENABLE EVENT LOGGING menu item is shown. A. EVENT LOGGING ENABLE The event logging option allows the spreader control to generate events which report information regarding the spreader status and operation. 20 Alarms and Error Messages The 5100 spreader control is equipped to sound multiple alarms and display associated error messages. The following information is to provide the operator with a list of the possible errors that may occur and what can be done to resolve the situation. Initialization Errors Initialization errors occur during the spreader control start-up. During the initialization the spreader control checks the various hardware components for correct operation. If the correct operation is not detected, the spreader control will generate an error. A. Event Storage Error The 5100 spreader control displays an error when the event storage memory becomes corrupt. When this error occurs the event data is cleared and the event collection will continue from this point. E V N T S T O R A G E C O R R U P T CON T I N U E Pressing the CENTER SELECT knob (CONTINUE) will clear the event storage area. The spreader control will continue with the initialization process. Possible Cause: Solution: Possible Cause: Solution: The backup battery is dead. Replace the battery located on the motherboard with a new 3V Lithium battery. (P/N CR2450N or equivalent) The spreader control contains a defective memory component. Contact the factory for repair or replacement Event Logging Manual Alarms and Errors 16

B. Route Active Warning The 5100 spreader control displays a warning message when a route is still active on power up. When a route is active upon startup of the spreader control the operator is given three options to determine what the proper method is for handling the active route. Those options are explained in the following table. Option end continue abort Description This option will end the route normally and should be used if this is the proper route end location and time. This option will continue the active route and should be used if the spreader was restarted in the middle of a route. This option will end the route with an indication that it was not the desired end point and should be used if this is not the proper route end location or time. W A R N I N G R OU T E A C T I V E e n d c o n t i n u e a b o r t Pressing the SELECT knob corresponding to the desired option will allow the spreader control to continue with the initialization process Event Logging Manual Alarms and Errors 17

Operation Errors Operation errors occur during the normal spreader control operation. If during this check the correct and expected operation is not detected the spreader control will generate an error. A. Event Storage Low Error The 5100 spreader control displays an event storage low error when the amount of event storage memory used exceeds the set percentage level. When this error occurs, the spreader control will continue to log events and operate properly. The event data should be retrieved from the spreader before the event storage has become full to prevent data from being lost. E V E N T S T O R A G E L O W CONT I NUE Pressing the CENTER SELECT knob (CONTINUE) will clear the event storage low error. B. Event Storage Full Error The 5100 spreader control displays an event storage full error when the event storage memory is full. When this error occurs, the spreader control will continue to log events and operate properly. Once this error has occurred the spreader control will loose event information by overwriting the old information with the new events. The event data should be retrieved from the spreader as soon as possible to reduce the amount of data that will be lost. E V E N T S T O R A G E F U L L CONT I NUE Pressing the CENTER SELECT knob (CONTINUE) will clear the event storage full error 5100 Event Logging Manual Alarms and Errors 18
