1 Best Practices In this section we include some examples of Best Practices of which we are particularly proud of and which are the evidence of the positive impact of activities conducted by FESM. Academic Recognition By the Decision of the Central Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles of 27 January 2014 FESM was authorized to confer the degree of doctor of economic sciences in the discipline of finance. Until recently FESM was only allowed to confer doctoral degrees in the disciplines of economics and management science. This decision to allow FESM to grant doctoral degrees in finance is a recognition of the achievements of its faculty members in this discipline. External Recognition For many years FESM has been a member of Eduniversal, an institution which annually announces the ranking for the best graduate programs and Master of Business Administration studies. In the academic year 2013/14 two of FESM s specializations Entrepreneurship and management of small and medium-sized enterprises and Investment and real estate were among the hundred best in their respective categories. FESM has been included by Eduniversal in its world ranking list of one thousand best business schools, and due to that has been awarded the so-called Three Palms. FESM has a teaching staff that is not only involved in the activities of the Faculty, but they also work for a variety of institutions and projects nationwide. Among various activities and honors awarded to our faculty members, some deserve special emphasis and they are enumerated below: Research Projects research project entitled: Contemporary computer systems in designing, processes, integration and optimization of core business processes - an innovative interspecialization training module in the use of management information systems, under the guidance of Sylwester Bejger, Ph.D. co-funded within the Development of Polish Higher Education activity (The Foundation for the Development of the Education System) implementation: research project entitled: Innovation between people. Analysis of the creation and implementation of innovation in enterprises and social economy entities operating in Poland, under the guidance of Dr. Hab. Aldona Glińska-Neweś funded by the National Science Centre in the amount of 243,880 PLN - the agreement dated research project entitled: Non-parametric identification and forecasting non-linear dynamics of financial processes, under the guidance of Witold Orzeszko, Ph.D. funded by the National Science Centre in the amount of 104,650 PLN - agreement dated a research group led by Professor Zenon Wiśniewski developed for the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy an innovative methodology for profiling the unemployed, enabling early identification of people at risk of long-term unemployment, the methodology has been presented at a conference entitled Analysis of factors affecting the increased risk of long-term unemployment, which took place on 22 January 2014 in Warsaw research project entitled: Simulation procedures in forecasting the business cycle with the use of threshold models, under the guidance of Prof. Dr Hab. Tadeusz Kufel funded by the National Science Centre in the amount of 228,800 PLN - realization period: research project entitled: Selected semi-parametric methods in forecasting applications - dynamic quantile regression and wavelet models, under the guidance of Joanna Bruzda, Ph.D. funded by the National Science Centre in the amount of 119,000 PLN - the agreement dated research project entitled: Innovation of small and medium-sized enterprises under the economic crisis - conditions, trends and models, under the guidance of Dr. Hab. Maciej Zastempowski, funded by the National Science Centre in the amount of 178,100 PLN - agreement dated

2 a research group under the guidance of Professor Zenon Wiśniewski won the tender for conducting (for the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy) analysis of factors influencing the increased risk of long-term unemployment and developing a methodology profiling the unemployed in the local market for use by the public employment services (1,050 thousand PLN); the Torun offer was considered the best among strong competition (other teams consisted of scholars from such schools as the Warsaw School of Business, Warsaw University and Poznań University of Economics) - April 2012 research project entitled: The investment activity of Polish enterprises abroad - factors and effects - grant funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education no. NN , carried out under the guidance of Dr Hab. Włodzimierz Karaszewski, NCU Professor and by a research team composed of Małgorzata Jaworek, Ph.D. Eng., Marcin Kuzel, Ph.D., Małgorzata Szałucka, Ph.D., Aneta Szóstek, Ph.D., Magdalena Kuczmarska, M.Sc. ( ) a research project entitled Polish Foreign Direct Investment Enterprises (Scale, Structure, Themes And Considerations, Important For Competitiveness), under the direction of Dr Hab. Włodzimierz Karaszewski, NCU Professor (1 H02C ) - Group Award of the University Rector (second degree) for the achievements in the field of scientific research in 2008, implementation in a research project (conducted in ), co-funded by the Office of the Marshal of the kujawsko-pomorskie province, entitled Foreign direct investment in the kujawskopomorskie province (condition, importance for the provincial economy, stimulants and destimulants of the inflow), developed under the guidance of Dr Hab. Włodzimierz Karaszewski, NCU Professor (1 H02C ) - Group Award of the University Rector (second degree) for the achievements by a team of the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Management, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun - work received the distinction of the Marshal of the kujawsko-pomorskie province for 2004 in the field of science and technological progress Honorable functions and distinctions Prof. Dr Hab. Ewa Siemińska was awarded the gold medal of Merit for the Polish Real Estate Market Pro Aequo Et Bono. This medal is awarded to persons with particular merits for the Polish real estate market by the Polish Association of Real Estate Counselors - December 2014 Prof. Dr Hab. Ewa Siemińska was nominated the title of professor at a ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Warsaw - April 2014 Prof. Dr Hab. Ewa Siemińska was the third time elected a member of the State Qualifications Committee of the State at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development - March 2014 The FESM Dean, Prof. Dr Hab. Józef Stawicki was awarded the medal celebrating the 95th anniversary of the Central Statistical Office of Poland and the International Year of Statistics. This commemorative medal is a recognition of merit and a significant contribution to the development of statistics (including Polish official statistics) - March 2014 Dr Hab. Hanna Karaszewska, Prof. NCU and Prof. Dr Hab. Jerzy. W. Wiśniewski were awarded the medal For contributions to the development of the University - February 2014 Prof. Dr Hab. Danuta Dziawgo, Vice-Rector for Economic Affairs and Development - a member of the Specialist Team of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education for assessing applications for funding statutory purposes - March 2012 (re-appointment by the Minister of Science and Higher Education on 31 January 2014) Prof. Dr Hab.
