2 Overview GFI MailArchiver 6.0 is the business archiving solution for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Reduce PST management headaches, offload Exchange and have a centralized archive of your . GFI MailArchiver makes it easy to search your and attachments with support for over 140 file formats, including the latest common office formats. GFI MailArchiver integrates with Microsoft Outlook for a seamless experience. GFI MailArchiver also makes your archive available offline when you are on the road. MailArchiva reflects its heritage as a small scale open source effort while the enterprise edition of MailArchiva can be considered usable in an SME environment it is still missing features which make it easy to administer and use, such as remote PST import. The MailArchiva Open Source edition is effectively only usable in a very limited set of scenarios it does not support Microsoft Exchange 2007 and upwards, does not support retention, does not support user-based access control, does not support bulk export, does not support Active Directory or LDAP authentication, does not support Single Instance Storage for attachments, and does not support recovery. But it does support Linux and OSX. Why is GFI MailArchiver better than MailArchiva Open Source Edition? Exchange Support GFI MailArchiver 6.0 fully supports Exchange 2007 and As most organisations have moved to Exchange 2007 this makes the Open Source edition effectively unusable. The MailArchiva Open Source edition cannot parse envelopes used by Exchange 2007 and higher and so does not properly support Exchange 2007 and 2010 any s archived are not fully searchable, for instance. Access Control GFI MailArchiver has full Active Directory integration allowing granular access to the archive. MailArchiva has no support for Active Directory or LDAP and has no user access controls at all; anyone with access to MailArchiva can browse through all the s in the archive. Policies GFI MailArchiver fully supports organisation policies for retention and categorization of s. MailArchiva does not support retention or categorization policies; without which an organisation cannot organize its or manage the storage requirements of the archive. Laptop users With GFI MailArchiver you can access your archived s even when offline. MailArchiva archives are not available offline users must be connected to the Exchange or MailArchiva server to access their archive. Support GFI MailArchiver includes a free one-year SMA with the purchase of a new license. MailArchiva is an open source product so support is limited to the forums. 2

PST Management GFI MailArchiver makes it easy to find and import the PST files spread throughout an organisation, thus making deployment simpler and reducing the burden on the administrator. GFI MailArchiver makes it easy to export to run a search and export the s to PST. MailArchiva requires running the PST import tool on each machine, or alternatively, requires the admin to search for and copy the PST files to a central machine to import the s. MailArchiva does not support export to PST. Policies GFI MailArchiver fully supports organisation policies for retention and categorization of s. GFI MailArchiver is certified GDPdU compliant. MailArchiva does not support categorization policies without which an organisation cannot organize its , or search them by label. This lack of label support means that MailArchiva cannot be used for GDPdU compliance (applicable only in Germany). MailArchiva makes its auditing available via a log file and does not support search or browsing. It does not appear to audit the backend store. Internationalization GFI MailArchiver supports 14 major languages including English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish, Czech, Arabic, Hebrew, Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese.
