6 RESIDENCE & LIVING Our renovated residences are attached to the college, furnished with beds, dressers, desks, chairs, bookshelves, and closet space. Each residence has access to laundry facilities, a prayer chapel, and lounge with a TV and sofas. Rooms are single occupancy. with limited double occupancy available. Students prepare their own meals in a community kitchen. We are located beside a grocery store (open 24 hours), and students receive individual fridge and freezer units to store food. Public areas at the college include a dining room, student life centre, chapel, and library. Horizon is a short walk from the University of Saskatchewan and a short bus ride from SIAST. Christian students looking for reasonable rent are welcome to make Horizon their home. Please apply early!

8 WHICH PROGRAM WILL YOU CHOOSE? At Horizon we re guided by the conviction that Christ is continually calling leaders to advance God s Kingdom. We recognize that Christian leadership takes different forms, and our programs follow different paths to prepare leaders called to different areas of Christian life and ministry. Our programs follow two paths. One path leads you to professional, credentialed ministry. The other path aims to establish your Christian life generally, preparing you to lead for Christ whatever your vocation or context. Our Global Worker s Certificate joins either program path, or it can serve as a stand-alone, unique experience that combines Bible College with an overseas missions experience. So whether you re right out of high school, considering a mid-life career change, or are contemplating early retirement, we encourage you to consider prayerfully where Christ is calling you, and whether Horizon might help you answer that call. 14

12 Global Worker s Certificate 1 year at Horizon The GWC is an incredible opportunity to combine training in short-term missions, Christian college classes, and on-the-ground experience serving God overseas. You spend September to December at Horizon taking classes and missions training. In January, you go overseas for 7 weeks to serve alongside local churches and global workers throughout Latin America. Tentatively, your overseas experience may include: 2 weeks in Peru 2 weeks in Costa Rica 1 week in Honduras 1 week in Haiti 1 week in Panama You return to Horizon for the final 7 weeks of the college year to complete classes and debrief about your experience. Courses include University of Saskatchewan transferable courses. The program really shaped my perspective on overseas ministry and I don t think I would have devoted the last 4 years of my life to studying a TESOL degree if I didn t start in the program! - Levi Fraser (Grad 2010) 21 10

13 MATURE STUDENTS We recognize that God is increasingly calling women and men with maturity, life experience, and relative financial stability to pursue a new direction toward pastoral and other Christian ministry-related opportunities. If your previous education and experience can shorten your program, we can help you reach your professional ministry goals faster. STUDENTS WITH FAMILY As a relatively young faculty with young families ourselves, we encourage families to participate fully in life at Horizon. Spouses and children are welcome at special events, chapels, or simply to use the facility as a safe place to meet for coffee and fellowship. We have loved coming to Horizon as mature students. Not only do we have an amazing place to learn but, as mature students, we feel that we can be mentors and friends to younger students. 14 SEMINARY PROGRAMS The Pentecostal-Charismatic movement is the largest, fastest growing Christian movement in the world. Increasingly, the movement is attracting greater academic attention. For those who already have an undergraduate degree and want to explore graduate-level studies from a Pentecostal-Charismatic perspective, Horizon has partnered with Providence Theological Seminary in Manitoba to offer three Master s degrees. The programs include one-week modular courses offered on campus at Horizon and Providence, as well as courses offered through online education. Degrees are granted by Providence and are accredited by the Association of Theological Schools (ATS). MASTER OF DIVINITY (PENTECOSTAL STUDIES) MASTER OF ARTS (THEOLOGICAL STUDIES) The M.Div. (Pentecostal Studies) is a three-year comprehensive program that equips you for professional ministry. If you already hold a Bible College degree, the M.Div. will deepen your ministry training. If you hold a university undergraduate degree, the M.Div. will serve as your first theological degree, preparing you for professional Christian service and ministerial credentials. The M.A. (Theological Studies) allows you to build on your theological undergraduate degree. During this two-year program, you ll explore theological issues from a Pentecostal-Charismatic perspective. In the end, you ll be equipped to better articulate Pentecostal-Charismatic theology as it continues to develop in the twenty-first century. 525 MASTER OF ARTS (CHRISTIAN STUDIES) The M.A. (Christian Studies) combines theological and practical training, enabling you better to serve in the local church. 15 DISTANCE LEARNING Horizon offers ever increasing opportunities for distance learners. LIVE STREAM COURSES Stream online into on-campus courses in real time, allowing you to interact with other students taking the course on campus and online. AUDIO/VISUAL AND TEXT-BASED COURSES View lectures and interact with professors and other students online. As this isn t live stream you have more flexibility when to view lectures, though you do have deadlines for assignments! MODULES Every year Horizon offers several blocks of 1-week modules. Attend a course for one week of lectures, and then complete the course work in the weeks that follow. A great way to get a course if you have limited time to study! 16 WHAT CAN I DO WITH MY HORIZON DEGREE? Many students choose to begin their education at Horizon and continue with further education in anything from engineering to nursing to carpentry. For those who choose to complete a full degree at Horizon, there are also many possible career paths. Career paths include: Lead Pastors Global Workers Youth Pastors Children s Pastors Social Sector Religious Education Chaplain Work (e.g. Prison Ministry) NGOs and Non-Profit Workers Some graduates also choose to pursue further education at the graduate level in areas such as biblical studies, theology, ministry, counseling, or leadership. Additionally, a Horizon education gives foundational skills in critical thinking, public speaking, writing, cultural awareness, and leadership, as well as prayer, scripture reading, and other spiritual disciplines to help guide you through life. These important skills can open the door to numerous career opportunities. 291
