1 Syllabus (Preliminary) CGN 6150 Engineering Project Management Summer C 2013 Catalog Description Pre-requites and Corequisites Course Objectives Contribution of course to meeting the professional component (ABET only) Relationship of course to program outcomes (ABET only) Instructor Engineering project management skills and procedures in support of engineering project development and management. No pre-requites and no co-requisites The objective this course is for the students to develop the engineering project management skills necessary to successfully participate in the management of the project delivery process. More specifically students will acquire practicing competence in the course topical areas. Software Requirements Student assignments will routinely involve the use of the following applications: Word processing Spreadsheet Graphic Software for sketches (occasionally) Lecture slides are provided as a PowerPoint file and will also be provided as pdf files. Students will be also working on assignments that require the use of project scheduling software. Students may wish to wish to acquire scheduling software for use on their personal computers. UF students can download MS Project (and 4

5 other applications) free of charge from the UF College of Engineering website. See: for instruction on setting up an account and obtaining software Homework Assignments Generally, assignments will be given weekly. Solutions will be posted the day following the due date. Assignments are for the instructional benefit of the students and will not be graded for participation only. Team Project Attendance and Expectations Working in assigned teams, students will develop a class project. In general, the project will consist of developing a case study on a real project. Attendance is not mandatory, however, students are responsible for in-class activities such as quizzes. Meeting deadlines is a key success factor in construction unavoidable absences. Few real life situations allow for late turn-ins.. However to accommodate those rare emergencies in everyone s life, students will be permitted 2 excused missed quizzes. It will not be necessary to provide an excuse. The first quiz that is missed will not count in the grading. After the second missed quiz, missed quizzes will be counted as a 0 grade. All quizzes will be open notes. Grading Approximate Grading Components: Quizzes 40% Assignments 10% Team Projects 50% 5 Generally, a short quiz will be given each week covering the assigned lecture and reading materials for that meeting. All students will access the quiz via the class website. The quiz will be available to

6 students for one week from the start of the class period. Turning In Assignments Grading Scale Homework Assignments and Project Assignments will be issued and submitted using the Assignment feature on the class Sakai site. Assignments must be submitted by the due date to receive credit. Course letter grades will be based upon the following grading scale. At the option of the instructor, the grading scale may be curved A A B B B C C C D D D E Make up Exam Policy Honesty Policy Make up exams will be given for medical or other appropriate circumstances. That office will documentation that he/she must provide to the course instructor when requesting accommodation.
