5 IB diploma candidates pursue the most rigorous course of study available at Morris Knolls High School. The class of 2012 is our first cohort to complete this challenging, internationally recognized program. These fourteen (14) highly driven students have successfully developed the ability to think, write and act critically but creatively, understand the global context of their studies and have actively used these skills to better their local communities. In short, these students have the skills that are necessary to be competetive and productive citizens of a 21 st century global community. In addition to their general coursework, all IB Diploma students are required to complete the following: Extended Essay is a 4000 word (20 page) original in-depth study of a question relating to one of the subjects they are studying. Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) requires that students actively learn from the experience of doing real tasks beyond the classroom in 150 hours of service to the community. All IB Diploma students are required to complete advanced coursework in the above designated areas. Three (3) are taken at the standard level (SL), which covers a broad range of topics within a subject area. Three (3) are taken at the higher level (HL) which covers fewer topics to a greater level of depth. Theory of Knowledge is a course designed to encourage each student to reflect on the nature of knowledge by critically examining different ways of knowing (perception, emotion, language and reason) and different kinds of knowledge (scientific, artistic, mathematical and historical).
