Upgrading from AT-S39 Version or later to AT-S39 Version This section contains the procedure for upgrading a switch running Version or later to Version from a local management session using the Xmodem protocol. (You can also load the new software using TFTP, as explained in the AT-S39 User s Guide.) The current switch configuration information, such as IP address and VLANs, is retained when new management software is installed. Before you begin the upgrade procedure, please note the following: You do not need to upgrade an AT-8000 Series switch if it comes with these software release notes in the shipping box. The switch already contains the latest AT-S39 management software and bootloader. The switch must be running AT-S39 Version or later before you can upgrade it to Version If the switch is running an earlier version, you must first upgrade it to Version by obtaining the management software and following the instructions in the appropriate AT-S39 Software Release Notes. In networks consisting of several AT-8000 switches, you can simplify the upgrade procedure by first upgrading a master switch to Version and then downloading the new software switch to switch from the master switch to the slave switches, provided that the slave switches are running Version or later. In several earlier software versions, the image file and bootloader were offered as two separate files. In Version 3.1.1, the two files are combined into one file. Do not use the manufacturer s boot prompt (=>) to load the new software. Only the menus in the Local management session are available for upgrading a switch from AT-S39 Version to Version Upgrading the software from Version to Version cannot be done via the Telnet management interface. However, this upgrade can be done by using the LOAD command from the command line interface. Once the master switch is upgraded, you can use either the command line interface or the menu interface to instruct the switch to upgrade other AT-8000 Series switches in the subnet. For directions on how to use the CLI LOAD command, refer to the AT-S39 Command Line User s Guide. Once a Master switch is upgraded to Version 3.1.1, any Slave switches detected by the Master in an Enhanced Stack can be upgraded when managing with either the Local or Telnet management interface. The Image Download to Remote Switches using the Enhanced Stacking feature is operational if the AT-8000 switch firmware is at AT-S39 V3.0.2 (including patches) or earlier. When upgrading from AT-S39 V3.1.0 or V3.1.0 Patch 001 and RSTP/STP is Enabled with a blocked port, this software image must be downloaded individually to each AT-8000 series switch. Before the upgrade, if the Maximum Multicast Groups value is greater than 255, it must be changed to 255 or less. Refer to Resolved Issues for Version PN Rev A 3 Allied Telesyn, Inc.
To upgrade a switch running AT-S39 Version or later to Version 3.1.1, perform the following procedure: 1. Establish a local management session on the switch where you intend to download the new management software. Note: Allied Telesyn recommends that you set the baud rate to 115k baud when upgrading software. 2. From the Main Menu, type 4 to select Administration menu. 3. From the Administration Menu, type D to select Xmodem Downloads and Uploads. The following menu is displayed: Note: The menu may differ depending on the version of management software on the switch. 8 New AT-S39 Version Resolved Issues: When a link partner was set to anything other than Auto-Negotiate, the PVID of the AT series switch changed to the Default PVID (1) after the Auto-Negotiating process is completed. This problem occurred when the link on an AT-8000 series switch port would go down and was re-established. Reference Customer Ticket # When deleting a VLAN, the PVID of an untagged port belonging to that VLAN was not changed to the default VLAN PVID. Reference Customer Ticket # The AT-A47 applique with a GBIC inserted sometimes was not recognized correctly without a link was established. Fixed the problem of accessing the management to a remote switch over tagged link via SNMP, Telnet or Web interface, when there exists a loop in the network and STP/RSTP blocks the redundant path. Reference Customer Ticket # The problem has been resolved where the Switch login mechanism was falling back to Local authentication from TACACS+ when the TACACS+ Server exists and an invalid user makes an unsuccessful login attempt. Modified Hardware Diagnostics menu to be able to distinguish AC and DC power supplies. It displays as follows: - Main Power Supply menu item displays AC or DC information along with ON or OFF status. - Redundant Power Supply menu will not be displayed in case of DC power supply switch or on 8012M model. The problem has been resolved to allow the switch to process any size incoming SNMP request message. Reference Customer Ticket # Operational Notes The Total_Count and TX_Count port statistics will increment for both AT-8024GB uplink ports when both GBICs are present and one port is linked. Reference Customer # When mirroring bi-directional traffic, the mirror port will not link up and the link status will occasionally go up and down. IGMP report packets are not forwarded out a tagged port and IGMP query packets are not received on a tagged port. The Factory Default value for Maximum Multicast Groups is changed from 256 to 64. Since the new MAX is only 255, the maximum possible number of learned Maximum Multicast Groups has changed from 2048 to 255. The web interface still displays the old values in the IGMP Snooping Configuration. PN Rev A 8 Allied Telesyn, Inc.
Stacking IP Address The enhanced stacking feature of the AT-8000 Series switch uses the IP address for communications between the switches of a stack. You should not assign this address to any device on your subnet if you intend to use the enhanced stacking feature. Port Speed on the AT-A46 Expansion Module When changing the speed of the port on an AT-A46 expansion module during periods of heavy data traffic, you must disable the port, change the port speed, and then reenable the port. Path Cost on the AT-A46 Expansion Module STP path cost for the port on the AT-A46 module must be set manually. Default Subnet Mask The default subnet mask has been changed from to Viewing Hosts or Routers in the Monitoring-System-IGMP Web page When View Multicast Hosts List or View Multicast Routers List is selected in the IGMP System Monitoring web page, a browser child window displays a list of up to eight hosts or routers per page. If there are more than eight hosts or routers, a Next button is displayed in the child window and the user can view the next page of hosts or routers in groups of up to eight until the end of the list is reached. To go back to the beginning of the list or to view a previous page in the list, the user must do the following: 1. Close the child window. 2. Refresh the browser parent window (IGMP System Monitoring). 3. Choose the View Multicast Hosts List or View Multicast Routers List radio button. 4. Select the View button. Stacking Status of a Switch To change the stacking status of a switch (for instance, from slave to master), you must start a local management session on the switch, or assign the switch an IP address and then start a remote management session directly with the unit. You cannot change a switch s stacking status through enhanced stacking. MDI Port Setting You must manually set a port s MDI setting whenever you manually set a port s speed or duplex mode. The Auto-MDI setting is available only when a port is auto-negotiating speed and duplex mode. The default setting is MDI-X for a manually configured port. PN Rev A 9 Allied Telesyn, Inc.
Boot Prompt Message During boot up, the switch displays the following prompt: Press any key to stop image loading and go to Boot Prompt. This prompt is intended for manufacturing purposes only. Should you inadvertently display the boot prompt (=>), type boot and press Return to start the switch s software. Disconnecting the Management Station Do not disconnect and then reconnect a management station from a switch port during a Telnet, web browser, or command line management session. Doing so automatically ends the management session. GBIC Modules You cannot configure a GBIC slot if a GBIC module is not installed. Reset and Power Cycle Times Loading the AT-S39 firmware by the switch after a reset or a power cycle now takes between 30 to 40 seconds to complete. Validation of Configuration Files The AT-S39 management software adds validation information to a switch s configuration file when the file is uploaded to a workstation or server. The software will check for this validation when a configuration file is downloaded onto a switch. If the validation information is missing in the configuration file, the download is canceled. This feature is to prevent corrupted or invalid configuration files from being downloaded onto a switch. Note: This feature first appeared in Version Configuration files from AT-8000 Series switches running earlier versions of the management software cannot be downloaded onto a switch running Version or later. RMON Groups and SNMP The AT-S39 management software supports the following RMON groups through SNMP: - Group 1 - Statistics - Group 2 - History - Group 3 - Alarm - Group 9 - Event PN Rev A 10 Allied Telesyn, Inc.
SNMP MIBs Information: The following are the minimum version of SNMP MIBs to be used along with this released application version. - atiswitch.mib Version 2.4 atistackinfo.mib Version 1.0 PN Rev A 11 Allied Telesyn, Inc.
Previous Version New Features Support was added for 3 new target switch modules: AT-8088/MT, AT-8088/SC, and AT- 8012M. Implemented the capability to detect a loop back cable connected to an AT-8000 series switch port. When a loop back cable is detected, the port will be set to 10MB/HD. The BALUN Cable Detection feature can be enabled or disabled under Main menu =>System Config Menu. When the loopback cable is removed, the port returns to the ready state. Added a new feature: 802.1x Port-based Network Access Control (local management session only). Two types of Radius servers have been verified as fully compatible: Funk Software Steel-Belted Radius and Free Radius. Two types of 802.1x clients have been verified to be fully-compatible: Microsoft WinXP client and Meeting House Aegis client. The 802.1x Port-based Network Access Control menu was added under Main menu =>Port menu. The following operations can be performed through this menu: - Global Enabling and Disabling of Port Access Control. - Setting/Viewing the Authentication Method. Currently only one Authentication of 'RADIUS EAP' is supported. with no option to change it has been provided. - Configuring Port Access Control Parameters for a single or range of ports. - Viewing the user configured Port Access Control Parameters on all ports. - Viewing the current Port Access Activity Status on all ports. Implemented 802.x Back Pressure feature in both half duplex and full duplex in all user interfaces. Implemented 802.1Q and non-802.1q compliant "Multiple VLANs" feature in all user interfaces. For overview and procedural information refer to the AT-S39 Version Management Software User s Guide (PN ). Resolved Issues Resolved a STP/Port Trunking issue where differing speeds between the primary trunk link (e.g. 100MB/FD) and the secondary link (e.g. 10MB/FD) caused STP not to converge. Resolved a problem where the 80xx switches did not respond to a Ewan Telnet client. Resolved a problem where the user was not able to download a software image to more than four or five switches at a time via Enhanced Stacking. PN Rev A 12 Allied Telesyn, Inc.
Note: After this version of code is installed on the Master switch, the MAC aging time of the Master switch must be greater than 100 seconds when downloading a software image to multiple slaves. Fixed the problem in the image downloading process through Enhanced Stacking where switches would prematurely reboot before the download process was complete for all the switches. This was causing downloads to fail on certain switches because the network path was blocked between the master and switches would prematurely reboot. Resolved the issue where access via a Telnet or local management session was denied for a period of time after doing a reset to factory defaults. The unit can now be contacted immediately after reboot on the local interface or if the user chooses not to reset the manually entered IP address, the unit can be accessed via Telnet. Resolved the issue where changing the active STP Protocol Version in a remote switch via Enhanced Stacking is caused the management to hang. Resolved the problem where configuration file downloads through Enhanced Stacking did not work correctly. Removed the option of modifying TFTP Server Status from all user interfaces. Removed the following TFTP server related CLI commands: - show tftpserver - enable tftpserver - disable tftpserver The switch now has a TFTP client which is used in communicating with an external TFTP server for Application and Configuration Downloads and Uploads. In previous releases, the command "reset ip" was invalid and no error message was generated. This has been resolved. This command will now reset the IP address, the subnet mask and the default gateway associated with the switch. It is equivalent to the command "reset ip interface=1". The behavior of a port has been modified so that it will not re-auto-negotiate when the port is disabled and re-enabled. The issue has been resolved where the SNMP objects " ifadminstatus" and " ifoperstatus)" did not reflect the correct value vs the actual state of the port. In the CLI interface, a new command has been added to change the management VLAN. This command is: set switch MAnagementVlan=vlanname vid This version of code provides the ability to pre-empt a telnet management session by logging into a Local management session. If a telnet session is active, and the administrator PN Rev A 13 Allied Telesyn, Inc.
logs on to Local management session, the user is given 10 seconds to select Yes to terminate the current Telnet management session. The problems associated with logging in using a Telnet client running on a Linux O/S have been resolved. The issue has been resolved where the slaves in a stack of switches were not accessible via the Web or SNMP management when the management PC and the stack were in different sub-networks. The issue has been resolved where a Ping or Telnet management session was intermittent on a tagged link when the Management VLAN was not the Default VLAN. The issue has been resolved where an Enhanced Stacking Master switch was not able to successfully "Get" the Slaves switch list with STP or RSTP enabled and ports were blocked. The issue has been resolved where the following error message was incorrectly displayed in the Web interface's "System" Configuration page's "General" tab after modifying any field on the page: "You forgot to enter a value for %s. This information is required for your switch configuration." Implemented Console/Telnet session to disconnect after 1 minute if user gets the "Login:" prompt and does not proceed with login. However, after the user successfully logs into the system with valid user name and password, the inactive session terminates only after the "Console disconnect timer" configured by the user (as it was working before). On the triplespeed gigabit ethernet ports with RJ-45 connectors, the speed defaulted to 1,000 MB when changing from Manual to Auto Negotiation. This issue is resolved. The issue has been resolved where the Duplex status on GB switches was incorrectly displayed when the port was set to a manual duplex configuration. Fixed the problem of incorrect LED display of Duplex status on GB switches when Negotiation is set to Manual. Resolved problems with Spanning Tree over a port trunk. Resolved problem where the SNMP SysUpTime parameter would reset to a zero after an elapsed time of one day. This parameter now displays the correct number of days. Resolved the issue in the SNMP Configuration menu where the 15th character in the Trap Receiver fields was not accepted. PN Rev A 14 Allied Telesyn, Inc.
