With you in mind, Exponent Philanthropy developed the Master Juggler Executive Institute, a carefully crafted 6-month program for those in the most senior staff role at their foundations. This exclusive opportunity features focused leadership training, executive coaching, customized learning, and ongoing support all centered on an individual learning agenda that will address your personal goals and your foundation s specific needs. 3 Core Components LEADERSHIP INTENSIVES The program includes two dynamic in-person trainings led by outstanding faculty. They feature 25+ hours of instruction, practical application, powerful collegial connections, and opportunities to test new skills. The small group size allows for a safe, confidential, and highly interactive environment in which to explore, stretch, and be challenged. EXECUTIVE COACHING Leading a small-staffed foundation requires the support, insight, and creativity that comes from authentic engagement with others who understand your work. You ll be matched with a select group of peer executives to provide you with support and motivation via monthly coaching sessions and ongoing conversations. CUSTOMIZED LEARNING Whether you re in your first year on the job or celebrating your 20th anniversary, each leadership situation is unique. You ll work with faculty and peers to identify your priorities for growth and develop a personal learning agenda to take your leadership to the next level in the next year. SUPPORT & RESOURCES Your peers and our staff will be with you throughout this program, so you won t have to do it alone. You will engage with your peers through executive coaching circles, conference calls, and online discussions. Our seasoned faculty and staff will provide ongoing support and connect you with resources from Exponent Philanthropy and the field to help you fulfill your personal learning agenda. 4 Learning Modules The Master Juggler Executive Institute curriculum aims to address core competencies for foundation executives while being responsive to the specific needs of cohort members. Below are just some of the topics that will be explored in JUGGLING LIKE A MASTER There are more demands on your time than hours in the day. Develop techniques for prioritizing what matters most by better managing your tasks, time, and energy. 360 REVIEW: LEVERAGING STRENGTHS As part of the Master Juggler Executive Institute, you ll have the opportunity to take part in an innovative 360 review focusing on leveraging your strengths. Past participants have found this opportunity for assets-based feedback powerful and thought-provoking. BOARD-STAFF DYNAMICS Foundation leaders executives and their boards have important and complex working relationships. Explore how to make these dynamics healthful, productive, and fruitful for all involved. SELF-CARE FOR LEADERS Our ability to perform well in our work and achieve our personal goals is highly dependent on our ability to sustain and manage our energy over time. Self-assess your wellness and reflect on how you can develop self-care habits to sustain your energy for a lifetime of good work. Leaders of small foundations are not only leading their organizations but also leading social change movements large and small. The issues are complex and change is never easy, so being aware of who we are as leaders, our skills and limitations, is critical to doing our jobs well. 5 INTERGENERATIONAL ENGAGEMENT Each generation of adults active in foundations brings its own set of values, beliefs, life experiences, and attitudes to the table. Develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities to recognize and manage generational differences and engage effectively across generations. BODY LANGUAGE & POWER Adjusting your posture can completely alter the way people respond to you. Learn the critical implications body language can have in situations ranging from facilitating meetings to managing difficult conversations, and how to make adjustments. COACHING ESSENTIALS Coaching helping others maximize their own potential for insight and smart decision making is a critical skill for foundation leaders. Learn specific techniques, then practice in-person and virtually via executive coaching circles. I came away with an entire sheet filled with ideas and action steps that I want to implement. I also came away with a list of colleagues with whom I will not hesitate to connect for questions, guidance, or feedback. 6 Faculty Leslie Sholl Jaffe has worked in the arena of transformational development for over 27 years. Her experience has traversed for-profit businesses as well as the nonprofit world. Her expertise includes managing whole system change; leadership development; effective communication; expert meeting facilitation; and coaching for personal and professional development. For the past 14 years Leslie has been a senior trainer/ consultant with the Rockwood Leadership Institute. Leslie spent 10 years as a chief architect and trainer for the executive leadership development program at JPMorganChase. Earlier in her career, Leslie was the executive director of two different nonprofits. Leadership development is key to creating long-term sustainable systems within our organizations at the heart of these systems are the executive directors. Leslie Sholl Jaffe Janice Simsohn Shaw is Exponent Philanthropy s networking maven, passionate about connecting members for learning and growth. Janice developed the Master Juggler Executive Institute curriculum by building on our work with foundation executives and insights from leadership development experts. Consistently a top-rated trainer, Janice brings particular expertise in multigenerational philanthropy and facilitation. Janice has 18 years of experience with nonprofit organizations and has led retreats for family foundations and giving circles, trained consultants on facilitation, led planning and strategy sessions, and steered coalition meetings. When foundation executives come together, there is an immediate sense of community. And when it s time to coach colleagues, watch out.
