4 Project Background, Objectives and Market Review RELEASE 2 OF THIS STUDY UPDATES THE 2011 MARKET SIZE OF INDIA BASED ON NEW INFORMATION, WHICH IN TURN AFFECTS THE INDIA FORECAST AND THE MARKET SIZE AND FORECAST OF THE ASIA PACIFIC REGION. ADDITIONALLY, PROVIDER DATA HAS BEEN UPDATED TO PAIR ARKADIN WITH THEIR JOINT PARTNERSHIPS AT THE TELCOS. Throughout the second quarter of 2011, Wainhouse Research (WR) conducted an independent assessment of the audio conferencing services 1 market in Australia, the People s Republic of China (PRC), Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Korea, and India. This in-depth study is intended to provide a description of the current state of the local Asia Pacific markets, assess current trends, identify risks and opportunities, and provide assistance on market approach, services and prices. Current market size, analysis, and a 5-year forecast is included in this study. Data from this report should assist clients in determining and establishing local market strategies and product offerings, and in setting in-country budgets and sales expectations. HIGHLIGHTS The Asia Pacific audio conferencing market is forecast to be approximately $1.1B by 2016 with a 5-Year CAGR of 8.3% Data in this study consists of largely quantitative information, providing current and forecast data on the volumes and revenues of services in local Asia Pacific markets. Each subscriber company to this study is encouraged to contact the author for a one-hour online briefing where specific qualitative information can be discussed according to client needs. Data has been collected on: Asia Pacific region estimates including: Current total market size by product type Current market size by audio minutes unattended & attended Total market share by country Market share by audio minutes & country unattended & attended Audio price range & average sales price unattended & attended Audio volumes are forecast to grow a 5-year CAGR of 19% to approximately 18B minutes of audio from 8B in 2011 A long-term shift of audio conferencing volumes associated toward unified communication and personal web-based collaboration began in 2011 WR believe there is healthy volume growth between the mix of traditional, UC, and personal web-based services. 5 o o o o o List of individual CSPs operating in-country Current market size by audio minutes unattended & attended Audio price range and average sales price unattended & attended Ranking of market share by service (ex: #1 unattended audio revenue, etc) and comparison to peers 5-year forecast by service type attended/unattended audio It is anticipated that these results, in addition to assisting with in-country strategies, will be newsworthy from a human-interest angle and will allow clients to create awareness in the press of beneficial market trends to their business. Methodology, Observations & Assumptions, and Definitions Methodology Primary and secondary sources of information were used in the development of this report. WR regularly contacts and interviews approximately 35 conferencing and collaboration service providers operating in Asia Pacific. WR collects quarterly volume and revenue data from over 35 CSPs globally throughout the year, and annual data from the balance of providers. Market sizing is typically based on data submitted to WR directly by the providers. In some cases WR has made estimates based on input (estimates, ranges, percentage of growth) from providers and our insight into the markets. All revenue statistics discussed in this report are sales of services to end users. Revenues are generally denoted in millions of US dollars, except for obvious figures, such as average selling prices. We attempt to make our units clear in all figures and tables. Numbers contained in the tables may not add exactly due to rounding. Observations & Assumptions Use of voice minutes via fixed and mobile lines is declining as organizations use text (via mobile) and various social media services to collaborate and communicate. WR believe the combination of global economic and employment challenges, and the trend of lower use of voice services contributes to lower audio conferencing minute growth. In 2011, results from different CSPs were vastly different from one another within the same country and across Asia Pacific. One CSP may have declined from the prior year, while another grew dramatically. While tracking the market over the last decade, WR has typically seen all providers in a market either grow, slow, or decline as a group. Our conclusion is that many accounts switched between different providers, and that growing existing accounts or winning new greenfield accounts was harder than in recent years. WR believe 2011 was THE year that the triple threat of: a) modest business activity (lack of new hiring, little expansion), b) unified communication adoption, and c) price & service bundled personal, web-based collaboration (one fixed price for PSTN/VoIP audio, web, and HD video), impacted audio minute growth at traditional CSPs. Wainhouse Research 2012 Page-4 CSP-AUDIOFCST12-APAC
6 While the economic impact is difficult to calculate the offset in minute growth, we have attempted to calculate the minute offset by unified communications and personal web-based collaboration in the tables below. We believe most of the unified communication minutes are currently onpremise, however more will move to Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) over the forecast period. Most of the Personal Web-based Collaboration minutes have not been reported by WR in the past as they are not directly associated with audio revenue, but rather revenue is bundled with web. Additionally, and to a certain extent, some Personal Web-based volume will end up in unified communications as UCaaS. o o By definition, UC Minutes Offset is currently, and predominately, Microsoft Lync Voice bridged through Lync audio conferencing bridges on-premise. We believe throughout the forecast period it moves to UCaaS where audio conferencing can be: a) integrated 3 rd party audio conferencing, b) UCaaS facilities-based audio conferencing, or c) Microsoft Lync audio conferencing. By definition, Personal Web-based Collaboration is a fixed, per seat bundle of audio, web, and HD conferencing. Table 1. While attended audio volume increased 10% in 2011 and will continue a double-digit increase in 2012, in 2013 and beyond it will begin a less aggressive increase with a 5 year CAGR of 7%. Additionally, WR has been advised of an increase in events, however, we believe much of the events growth will go to streaming & webcasting, not operator attended audio & web calls. Total audio conferencing revenue will grow modestly 8.3% CAGR over the next 5 years. To change this, two things need to happen: a) price declines need to slow below -8.6% during the Wainhouse Research 2012 Page-5 CSP-AUDIOFCST12-APAC
7 next 5 years, however, as the cost of service (with more VoIP, on-net, and toll transport) is becoming similar it more likely that ARPU will decline at forecast or slightly higher; and b) volume for traditional audio (PSTN, toll-free, pay-per-minute) needs to grow at a dramatically faster rate than the 5 year CAGR of19.3%. This is not probable. Volume is clearly shifting to other modes. While many traditional CSPs will likely win audio volume in UC deployments and offer Personal Web-based services, they can no longer count on the traditional market to deliver 20%+ volume growth and 10%+ revenue growth annually. Not forecast here is the revenue opportunity for CSPs providing integration to UC and offering Personal Web-based audio conferencing services. In many cases one can assume the value for UC audio is cost of service, minus transport, plus margin charged at a per minute rate. That may be currently true but may be a difficult position to hold for long. Clients are seeking fixed price, predictable fees for their communication services. WR believes fixed price, per seat audio conferencing will be required to compete for UC integration. Personal Web-based Collaboration holds a greater value proposition because personal preference more frequently has dictated the selection and retention of web conferencing and at a consistent price point. Citrix GoToMeeting has held the retail price of $49 per user, per month for years. WR estimates they don t discount much more than 30% - making $34 still an attractive price point. WebEx without audio - averages $13.30 per user, per month. With audio, WR estimate all Personal Web-based services could be priced at approximately $35 per user, per month. 8 Definitions We define the conferencing service market as multipoint audio, video bridging, and web conferencing. Below we define each category of service that we forecast: Attended Audio - Audio conference in which an operator is used to facilitate the call. The operator may or may not also schedule and set up the call. Unattended Audio - Audio conference, in which the moderator schedules, sets, up, and facilitates the call. An operator is not used. Web Conferencing - A collaborative session hosted by a service provider, which uses a standard web browser or downloaded client to share an application or to make a remote presentation over the Internet. Voice communications to accompany the conference or presentation is typically over the public switched network (revenue would be included in audio) or, in limited cases today, over the IP network. Video Bridging - Service used to connect more than two videoconferencing endpoints into a conference. Most video bridging services are operator attended, but increasingly interest is growing in unattended services. The client or the service provider can conduct invitations and scheduling. Additional definitions: CSP Conferencing / Collaboration Service Provider ASP Average Sales Price, also known as ARPU (average rate revenue per unit) represented in USD cents Revenue All revenue represented in millions of US dollars. Minutes All minutes represented as millions of minutes. Rounding All minutes and revenue are round up when integers past the decimal point are greater than.5, therefore some totals would appear not to add up. In the example below = 133.9, but is rounded up to Wainhouse Research 2012 Page-7 CSP-AUDIOFCST12-APAC
9 Asia Pacific Market Overview WR views individual local markets as the best way to track growth. While it can be helpful to view regions, we believe local markets have specific and unique characteristics which are more reliable for basing marketing and sales planning. There is a significant difference between the Asian Pacific country markets and because of the sheer size of its economy; Australia will dominate any statistic within the region. For overall regional planning purposes, however, we offer a comparison of Asia Pacific data from 2010 to 2011 below. Table 3.
