9 SPANISH Spanish in the 6 th grade is the beginning of the formal instruction of the language

10 Goals and Objectives GOAL To introduce the language as a tool for communication. OBJECTIVES To be able to, fluently, relate to others. To practice oral communication, with an emphasis on the correct pronunciation. To eliminate the fear or intimidation of speaking the language by reinforcing the idea that making mistakes is OK. To develop listening and writing skills. To introduce the students to different Spanish speaking countries, peoples and cultures. To have fun!

11 Text and Materials Así se dice 1A Textbook and Workbook 1 binder, loose leaf paper and (5) dividers.

12 Homework and Grading Daily homework, posted each day on the Spanish webpage, under the 6 th Grade folder. Frequent, graded, written assignments are common. A major test every two/three cycles (about 2 or 3 chapters) Occasional quizzes as necessary. NO pop quizzes. A major project at the end of each trimester: The final trimester grade: a combination of 50% assignments/tests and 50% final project.

19 Grading and Homework Tests and Projects: 50% Quizzes: 40% Preparedness: 10% Incomplete or missing homework assignment = home. Homework will occasionally be collected and used as a quiz grade. This will not be announced.

20 Preparedness Grade Goal: promote responsibility! Each student begins with 100% Preparedness grade will be updated at the end of each week Preparedness (50 points) Student - -2 points for each visit back to homeroom to get materials for class Homework (50 points) -2 points for each missing/incomplete homework assignment

61 GRADE LESS THAN 60 If quiz or test grade is less than 60 the student can make all corrections. Grade will then become a 60.(regardless of how low the original score is.) Parental signature is required. Test will be returned to school.
