To help facilitate this we have opened our most northerly office in Glasgow. Now with dedicated local sales staff and maintenance engineers, we are able to deliver far higher levels of support to our customers throughout Scotland.

2 Welcome to UP the Jackson Lift Group s new style newsletter George and Julia Jackson This is the first of our new style newsletters and together, with all of my colleagues, we hope you find the content both interesting and informative. Of personal interest is the opportunity that this newsletter has offered me. It has enabled me to formally introduce myself to those customers who I have yet to meet. I would like to reaffirm the total commitment of our dedicated employees to our absolute passion for independence and continued success. Together with my father, our founder and Group Managing Director, George Jackson (in the decade of his life when many would expect retirement to be on the agenda), we felt it important to bring a message of family continuity and the assurance that retirement for him is as likely as him flying to the moon! We have been fortunate and continued to grow throughout a difficult financial climate. Crucial to our success has been our experienced and strong leadership team, which we have continued to develop in recent years. As most of our customers know, I am not an engineer however, I have lived and breathed lifts and escalators for virtually my whole life and have gained a deep appreciation of our industry, customer satisfaction and keeping promises. I studied law at university and spent five years as a Solicitor in private practice. In 2004, the Jackson family recruited me for the position of Corporate Lawyer. Subsequently in 2007, I was appointed to the Board of Directors. Today, working alongside my father, I intend to build on the success of the Company and continue to run a profitable, customer focused organisation which employs and trains staff to the highest standard. I am proud of what we have all achieved over the last 33 years and I look forward to the next 33 with great optimism and confidence of our continued independence. Julia Jackson LLB, M. 3 A new look for Jackson During the early part of 2012 we decided to completely change our internet presence with an entirely new and visually stronger website. However, it didn t stop there, we decided to undertake a complete brand review and refreshed our visual presence to better reflect our position as one the UK s largest independent lift, escalator and cradle maintenance organisations. As part of our on-going web development, we are continuing to work on our website to improve and enrich its content. We are also in the process of improving the usability and appearance of the log in/secure customer area. Visit us at Total Workplace Management for Facilities Managers Many of our customers will have heard or attended various Total Workplace Management Exhibitions showing at London s Olympia Exhibition Complex. This year, the event organisers decided to hold a dedicated Facilities Management Section called The FM Event As with previous years, Jackson Lift Group exhibited with George Jackson and Julia Jackson attending the stand, accompanied by two of the London based sales team. Yet again the exhibition provided the opportunity to meet with established customers and, for those yet to meet Julia, to do just that. Apart from the benefits and pleasure of meeting existing customers, we were very pleased to secure maintenance and modernisation business from several new customers. For those who visited us at The FM Event 2012, many thanks, we all enjoyed our various meetings and hope to see you again over the coming months. Success in Wales Commitment returns commitment Document control A large proportion of our customers will know that Jackson Lift Group have always placed great importance on technology within the business. To further help manage the amassing volumes of archived documents and importantly, provide customers with fast results to questions, we are making a significant investment in a bespoke electronic document management system. The new system is being developed by our IT department with plans for implementation during the early part of The objective is for Jackson to have a virtually paperless office to provide fast detailed document archiving and retrieval. Apart from the obvious benefits for our customers and all in the business, a big spin off is that it will be great for the environment. For some time, Jackson Lift Group have been maintaining lifts for the National Health Service in Wales through Welsh Health Supplies, part of the NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership. As with all trusts, when the lift maintenance contract came up for renewal a tender submission request was posted on the internet for all interested parties to tender for the five year contract. Although we have an excellent relationship and are known for our high levels of commitment to our client and the hospitals we support, open tendering is dependent on both value and deliverables. As a result of the successful track record we have built up and competitive pricing, we were awarded Sole Supplier status, something that had not been part of the previous contract. The new contract covers seven health boards and a number of trusts which are geographically spread across the whole of Wales. All of the Jackson team and particularly those operating in Wales are delighted and proud to be working as partners with the Welsh Health Supplies. Intelligence and emergency we have them covered High volume passenger lifts need reliable and regular maintenance and that is just what Jackson have been providing Cardiff University, The University of Wales and their campuses; Carleon and The City. Once again all of the Jackson team, and particularly those operating in Wales, are delighted and proud that these two Universities have chosen Jackson again as their contracted lift service provider. Another successful lift maintenance contract win for Jackson came from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service. The award covers lifts installed at a number of stations in the Cardiff, Vale of Glamorgan and Rhonda Cynon Taf county boroughs.

4 Good to be green Increasingly, organisations are introducing environmental objectives for their activities which are likely to cover energy, waste management and disposal. As a result, Jackson Lift Group have created a range of products that assist in lowering energy consumption, providing customers with a tangible return on investment. We have also introduced an easy to use oil spill kit to help minimise the risk of oil pollutants contaminating the ground or drainage systems in the case of a spill. Green Products Hydraulic energy saving power units suitable for upgrades, modernisations & new installations reduce energy consumption by up to 43%. Power standby For a relatively small investment, Jackson can install the equipment needed to power down the lift when it s empty and waiting for a call, ideal for low density residential buildings. The power down feature will switch car lighting and cooling fans off automatically after a set duration following the car s last call and then fully reinstate them on the next call. Depending on the lift usage, savings of up to 50% can be expected as a result of these two items being controlled. LED Lift Car Lighting It s fairly common knowledge that LED lighting, when used to replace traditional halogen lights, saves significant amounts of energy and provides a much longer bulb lifespan. Effectively two cost saving benefits are achieved, energy reduction LED lights are as much as 80% more energy efficient and LED bulbs can last up to six times longer before replacement. Jackson can help by providing either bulb replacement when the fixing is suitable or a replacement car ceiling with energy efficient lighting. Stansted airport s passenger flow Anyone flying will be only too aware that aircraft seldom wait for late passengers! As a result, Stansted Airport take great care to ensure that entering and moving in, around and out of the terminal building are never hindered by poorly performing lifts, escalators or moving walkways. To ensure that passengers don t encounter delays as a result of equipment failure, Stansted Airport chose Jackson Lift Group as their sole dedicated lifts, escalators and moving walkways maintenance supplier. In view of the importance of passenger flow to the airport, and to lower the stress levels that can be associated with air travel, Jackson have resident, highly experienced engineers on site to deal with any escalator or moving walkways problem. When passenger flow has to flow, Jackson are there.

5 Lift Modernisation in Bayswater Situated in the heart of Bayswater, Compass House is a multi-tenanted 8 storey office complex, with a group of duplex (2 car) lifts serving all floors. The existing installation, incorporating Otis geared bottom drives, was replaced with complete new CE marked Machine-Room-Less (MRL) 1.6m/s 630kg 8 person lifts. This lift modernisation has significantly improved the ride and reliability of the passenger lifts. Lift refurbishment, Bristol Oncology Ward Jackson Lift Group were recently commissioned to undertake the modernisation of the lift installation at the Bristol Foundation Trust s Oncology department. Apart from the obvious benefits of providing a modern and reliable lift, we were asked if we could provide energy efficient diffused car lighting to avoid patients on trolleys being disturbed. The answer, in short, of course was yes and together with the client we decided the ideal option was to match the innovative corridor lighting. To achieve this, the Trust obtained the same sky and clouds graphics as used in the corridor, and we did the rest. The finished car with its diffused lighting brings the outdoors, indoors and provides some light (diffused) relief and hopefully a comfort to sick patients as they are moved around the hospital. Lift modernisation at Brindleyplace, Birmingham Seventeen years on and Five Brindleyplace is undergoing a major refurbishment, to reinstate its position as one of Birmingham s leading cutting edge business and office locations. As part of this major refurbishment, Jackson Lift Group have been commissioned to modernise the six existing Otis passenger lifts. The project required Jackson to completely modernise the bespoke glass scenic lifts and opulent stylish timber clad car interiors. The refurbishment includes a 4 car group comprising of 2 passenger lifts and 2 scenic 16 person, 8 floor lifts, DDA upgrades and health and safety changes. The bespoke nature of this project has necessitated close communication between all parties involved in the modernisation - something the regional team at Jackson are well known for. No more sleepless nights! The residents in the Plymouth Community Homes tower blocks were being disturbed throughout the night as people were moving floor to floor to enter and leave the premises. Generally, you would associate this with people speaking in loud voices. Not the case in Plymouth, the problem of high levels of noise was being generated by the lift car and lift entrance door gear. Jackson Lift Group engineers quickly identified the problem and with the agreement of Plymouth Community Homes, a door upgrade programme was agreed for the offending lifts. The result was peaceful nights and happy residents. KIER: Jackson a preferred supplier KIER, one of the UK s largest construction, services and property groups, has recently awarded Jackson Lift Group a UK based three year preferred supplier contract. The contract was secured in open tendering. The selection process covered accreditations, experience of working under framework arrangements, service levels, financial stability, UK coverage, trainee qualification, health and safety management, utilisation of a web based portal and key account management. Daryl Lucas, Procurement Manager, Kier Services remarked after the award that Jackson were viewed as being best in class when reviewing the tender submissions.

6 extension & enlargement For some significant time, Jackson Lift Group have been experiencing a consistent growth of our installation and maintenance portfolio. As a direct result of this success, we have been increasing our office facilities across the UK. This expansion includes a major enlargement of our Head Office premises in Charlton, London costing an estimated 750,000. When completed in early 2013, it will double the current office floor space. Our second most significant facility enlargement is at our Birmingham location. The acquisition of 2 adjacent buildings to our existing offices will again double the current office floor space, significantly enhancing desk space for the volume of staff needed to support customers in this region.
