4 What is Microsoft InfoPath? A Microsoft software application that facilitates the building of computer-based forms These forms can be very simple, or very complex allowing for the creation of applications if required Forms created in InfoPath can be filled-out in a browser, Outlook, or saved to disk Data can be accessed and displayed from many different sources (web services, XML, databases, and other forms)

5 What is Microsoft InfoPath? Many types of integrative behaviors are available. Behaviors based on rules, conditions, and actions. Gives a SharePoint Information Worker a simple and understandable interface to capture data that can be used to find information later. Combined with other SharePoint features like workflow, content types, metadata, and Information management Policies, IFP forms provide a way to move from documents for data capture.

6 Things you can do Create a form that submits data to populate a list Create a form that becomes a document in a library (with metadata) Create a form that becomes a reusable Content Type Modify existing list/library forms Using the InfoPath Form Web part, we can insert a form directly into SharePoint services page.

10 Now for some demos: Vacation Request Create a vacation request form! The form will be a content type with Workflow and Info Mgmt Approval workflow Retention policy Users will make requests in document library: Vacation Request Form will be the default content type for the library InfoPath design will be stored in a form library: InfoPath Forms

11 Steps to create Vacation Request 1. Create two libraries: Vacation Request, InfoPath Forms 2. In InfoPath create a SharePoint Form Library form 3. Add fields: Employee name, request start date, total days, explanation 4. Submit: to library Vacation Request, filename builder 5. Publish the content type (use all fields as available cols) 6. Add an approval workflow and Info Mgmt Policy 7. Add the content type to the library then test!

12 Updating the Tasks app default form The task app form is not very attractive to most 2013 users We will update so it is more attractive

13 Steps to update tasks app default form 1. Add a Tasks app 2. Remove: %complete, predecessors, related items 3. Show form as a dialog 4. Enable versioning for repeating comments 5. Add: Comments (multiline), Append Changes 6. Update form to pull in comment field and make more appealing.

14 Future of InfoPath End of Life No more versions being shipped Will be supported through 2023 Continue to use it! Microsoft will announce migration strategies for InfoPath Options: Nintex Forms for SharePoint Formotus K2 Smart Developers write.aspx
