3 Choosing an image Selecting the right image for your Acrovyn by Design project is essential, not only for the interior design of your space but for a number of practical production reasons. Following the recommendations and specifications in this guide will help ensure that your Acrovyn by Design project comes out just as you envision it. Copyright First and foremost, you must have the legal rights to use any image you wish to have printed on Acrovyn by Design products. C/S respects the intellectual property rights of others and will only print your image if: Image type and quality To ensure optimum output quality we recommend checking the image quality at full size before placing an order with us. There are two types of digital images: vector images and raster images. Both types of images are acceptable, provided they meet the resolution requirements. What is a Vector Image? An image composed of objects (lines) Does not lose quality when resized You are able to provide evidence that you have the right to reproduce, use and create derivative works from the image, and have the right to authorize C/S to use, reproduce and create derivative works from the image, for the purpose of completing your Acrovyn by Design project; or You are able to provide evidence that the image is in the public domain and not copyright protected; and You agree to indemnify C/S for any claims arising from the use of such image in accordance with the Indemnification Clause included in C/S Terms and Conditions of Sale. We recommend thoroughly researching the origin and copyright status of any image you intend to use before your order is placed with us. This will help you avoid unnecessary delays and potential copyright infringement claims and/or other intellectual property claims. PLEASE NOTE: If there is any doubt as to the copyright status of the image, the work may not be printed. What is a Raster Image? Contact your C/S sales representative for details or call If your image looks too blurry or pixilated at actual output size, you need a higher resolution image. If your image is still clear at actual output size, the resolution is acceptable. 4 5

4 File Specification ACCEPTABLE FORMATS INCLUDE: Images will be enlarged to the size of the wall; therefore, images need to be supplied with.pdf Portable Document Format (press quality) sufficient resolution to maintain image quality at that size. Determining image resolution The correct image resolution depends on how the viewer will be interacting with the image. Based on the amount of information the human visual system can perceive and process, images seen from a longer distance can be output at lower resolution, measured in (pixels per inch). Viewing Distance Minimum for best reproduction < 2 ft at actual output size 2 5 ft. 150 at actual output size 5 10 ft. 100 at actual output size > 10 ft. 72 at actual output size For viewing distances of 5 to 10 feet, images should be at least 100 at their actual final output size, and C/S recommends 150. At viewing distances of 10 feet or greater, 72 images at the actual final output size will produce good results. Images that are to be viewed closer than 5 feet require higher resolution for the best quality output. A minimum of 150 at the final output size is recommended for images viewed from 2 to 5 feet, with at the actual print size being recommended for prints viewed closer than 2 feet. We are able to scale some lower resolution images to a size larger than the original file size with little or no loss of quality, but this is dependent on the overall viewing distance of the piece being produced. Please keep in mind that submitting a high resolution image will increase the probability that your final print will be of better quality. If you have any questions on your file size, please submit the file to one of our image consultants to analyze. Specifying Acrovyn by Design When specifying Acrovyn by Design, we will require a basic design of the wall area with the relevant dimensions in order to provide you with the most accurate indication of cost. At the order stage we will require: Color Our color calibration software allows accurate matching to your original file within the tolerance of the digital ink jet process and the inherent color of Acrovyn by Design sheet. Pantone Color Bridge allows us to match 1,314 Pantone Solid Colors and is a recommended tool and reference for our customers specifying colors. Our proofing process will allow you to agree on colors before committing to production. Please inform us of any specific color requirements when submitting your artwork. Recommended ICC profiles: GRACoL2006_Coated1v2 CMYK: US Web Coated (SWOP) ICC Profile RGB: RGB Adobe 1998 ICC Profile An accurate wall elevation drawing indicating image crop areas High resolution image/artwork supplied in the proper file format and resolution as outlined in this guide Low resolution version of the artwork detailing crop areas for fixtures and fittings Once we have received all the necessary drawings and images/artwork we will supply a PDF mock-up for final approval. 6 7
