1 SCHOOL NEWS Otaku Club 30 th October Are you interested in Japan? We would like to start an Otaku club. We could meet once a week and, actually, everyone would do what he/she likes. Some might talk about the Land of the Rising Sun, and others simply read manga. It is an interesting idea. In our school there are plenty of people who are like us... Much to despair! The shelves were empty and there were no buns! GOOD NEWS On 7 th October, students got the best present there is the danishes. For the first few days, immediately after the beginning of lessons a brief moment passed before these sweets were gone. However, the price can surprise you they are priced at 3 zlote. They can be with crumble, pudding or fruit. From what we know, 16 th October was the international day of eating buns. 2 Healthy breakfast for school In the morning everyone should eat something. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! We propose something healthy and yummy. First, green tea before school it will wake you up and its better than coffee. Of course the best and the fastest breakfast is a sandwich. It could be with lettuce, cheese and tomato. No butter! Margarine fattens... Spare a few minutes in the morning to make yourself a sandwich. Then we go to school. Go buy some juice or water. Don t buy chocolate bars and crisps, they will make you fat! Take an apple or in a special case a danish. November the 11 th is a very important date for every Pole. In November the 11 th 1918 our country after 123 years of partitions regained its independence. On this day Józef Piłsudski, famous Polish independence activist, became General Inspector of the Armed Forces (in Polish: Generalny Inspektor Sił Zbrojnych; GISZ). Troops from foreign countries (from Germany, Russia and Austria) were started to withdraw them from our lands. Poland could have never regained its independence if our ancestry wouldn t have died for their loving homeland. Against all odds and trials to kill everything what was connected to Polish character, nothing could have killed our dreams about freedom. When Poland became a sovereign country again, we showed that we were one of the most tireless nations. Probably we couldn t speak Polish and have our national symbols flag, anthem and emblem. It is also possible that heroics of our ancestry might be forgotten. 3 I think everybody knows what Halloween is and that this festival isn t celebrated in Poland, but in the USA and the UK Halloween is a very important and interesting feast day. What colours are symbols of Halloween and why? Orange - related to harvests because the end of October is the end of the harvest (the time when fruit and vegetables are collected). Black - related to death. How do people celebrate October 31 st? Pumpkin lanterns you cut flesh from the pumpkin, then carve eyes, nose and mouth and your scary or funny (whatever you prefer) orange lantern is almost ready. All you have to do is to put a candle into the pumpkin and now you can have fun with your man-made lantern. Apple bobbing you put lots of apples in a large tub or bowl of water. The competition is about taking a bite from the apple, but without using hands or using the sides of the bowl to help. Your eyes are covered with a scarf. Sounds fun, don t you think? Trick or treating - if you want to, you can dress up and go visiting the houses in your neighbourhood and ask for a trick or treat. The police in some parts of Britain give out No trick or treat, please! posters for people to display on their door at the night of Halloween. There are also Halloween parties. 4 History of video games by Stanisław Augustyniak Some time ago, computer games were totally different comparing to those we know today. The biggest difference is music, graphics and mechanics which is also a matter of technology development. Today players have an opportunity to watch gameplay in the first, second or third person. Also the music has changed which now is definitely more expressive, stronger and better fitted to the game. Also the graphics has changed and for the majority of players it is, unfortunately, the most important.,,unfortunately, because once players valued the plot and not the graphics. Computer games nowadays are better than the older ones because they have a longer and more interesting storyline. Music in new games is very diverse and suited to the game and of course the graphics, which should not be compared to the graphics from the old computer games. A good example is the game The Witcher and The Witcher 3 where the difference is colossal. The creators of The Witcher 3 announced that there won t be next part of this game. They will only do a separate additions to the game (DLC) which will make it complete and explain the storyline to the end. Players can't wait for it. The Scouts Scouting is an organization for young people. In Polish it is called Harcerstwo. The scout movement was started in 1907 by Robert Baden-Powell. In Poland the movement started in 1910 in Lwów by Andrzej Małkowski. The largest organization by membership is Polish Scouting and Guiding Association. (Związek Harcerstwa Polskiego ZHP ).There is also scouting Association of the Republic in Polish : (Związek Harcerst Polskiego ZHR ). The main aim of these movements is Membership- członkostwo Movement- ruch Spiritual development- duchowa rozbudowa supporting young people in their physical, mental and spiritual development. It focuses on the outdoors and survival skills. A scout camp A scout camp is considered to be the best thing in scouting. The camp lasts for three weeks. It is very challenging for young people because they have to survive in very difficult conditions. There is no toilet, running water or electronicity. All scouts have to take part in a game called Robinson s cottage. They go to the forest and stay there for 24 hours.
