I n t e r n a t i o n a l S o c i e t y o f BACKGROUND CONCEPTS: The idea of cells being directly involved in the defense of the body was first suggested by Ilya Metchnikoff in Metchnikoff was a zoologist who had studied single cell organisms and phagocytes in transparent starfish larvae. Metchnikoff suggested that phagocytic cells in vertebrates would operate in a similar way to remove microorganisms. His famous experiment involved simply pushing a rose thorn into starfish larva and observing that phagocytic cells rapidly migrated and clustered around the thorn. phagocyte n. A cell, such as a white blood cell, that engulfs and absorbs waste material, harmful microorganisms, or other foreign bodies in the bloodstream and tissues. Phagocytosis is an active process in wound healing.
I n t e r n a t i o n a l S o c i e t y o f DEVELOPMENT: thorn a fragment of intruding material - shape echoing the thorn cell cluster an ambiguous form - could be a cell or the perimeter of many clustering cells engulf benign aggression - an action suggestive of healing
I n t e r n a t i o n a l S o c i e t y o f PROGRESSION (1: rendering):
I n t e r n a t i o n a l S o c i e t y o f PROGRESSION (2: typography): Optima appeared in 1958, and is perhaps Hermann Zapf s most original design. Although it was not conceived as a book face, the roman inflections of Optima font family make it legible for continuous reading. Optima is a sans serif font family with certain serif face features. These features give the face an inscriptional, humanist feel. The M is slightly splayed and the g echoes the Venetian style. The stems and crossbars are mildly tapered and cupped at the ends to facilitate the reading process. It can be used in display sizes or lengthy texts with affecting readability. Widely used in advertising for display and text lines as well as being used in brochures, catalogues and magazines.
I n t e r n a t i o n a l S o c i e t y o f VARIATIONS (1: on black):
I n t e r n a t i o n a l S o c i e t y o f VARIATIONS (2: colour):
I n t e r n a t i o n a l S o c i e t y o f VARIATIONS (3: font): Optima Trajan pro Gill Sans Copperplate
I n t e r n a t i o n a l S o c i e t y o f Further adjustments to form and shading after client review:
I n t e r n a t i o n a l S o c i e t y o f Proposed final forms 1: on white: 1) using graded shading: on black: 2) using flat shading (may be required for certain output types):
