9 About This Guide Overview The SBC 5x00 Software Installation Guide provides the required information for installing and initializing the SBC 5x00 platform. It also provides instructions for installing the SBC 5x00 application. Audience This document is intended for use by Network Engineers responsible for installing, maintaining, and operating the SBC 5x00. 10 What s in This Guide What s in This Guide Documentation Updates This guide is classified into the following chapters: Chapter 1, "Installation Overview" provides an introduction to the SBC 5x00 platform, an overview of the various methods of software distribution, an outline of the installation process and the customer requirements associated with the installation. Chapter 2, "SBC 5x00 Platform Configuration" explains the configuration procedures for the SBC 5x00 Platform. Chapter 3, "SBC 5x00 Application Software Installation" provides the installation procedures for the SBC 5x00 application software. Chapter 4, "Upgrade Overview" provides an overview of the upgrade process. Chapter 5, "Upgrade Procedure" provides the upgrade procedures for the BMC, BIOS, SBC 5x00 operating system and the SBC 5x00 application software. 14 Installation Overview About SBC 5x00 About SBC 5x00 Sonus SBC platforms (SBC 5100 and SBC 5200) provide enterprises and service providers with the features, performance, reliability and future proofing capacity that they require. This versatile series of SBCs can be deployed as peering SBCs, access SBCs or enterprise-sbcs (e-sbcs). They have been interoperability and performance tested against a variety of third party products and call flow configuration in the customer networks. The following software/hardware platform of Sonus SBC 5100 and SBC5200 are: SBC 5200 This platform targets medium to large session count deployments (1000 to 64000). These capacities make this product particularly well suited for large enterprises and medium to large service providers. SBC 5100 This platform targets small to medium session count deployments (350-10,000). These capacities make this product particularly well suited for medium enterprises and small to medium service providers. 17 Interoperability Installation Overview Interoperability The SBC 5x00 software inter-operates with the following: SIP/H.323 compliant IADs and IP-PBXs Sonus PSX6000 Softswitch via SIP redirects and/or Diameter+ protocol Sonus NBS9000 through SIP call signaling and Sonus Networks MCS protocol Version 0.3 Release V
18 Installation Overview Customer Requirements Customer Requirements The SBC 5x00 system comes pre-installed with three platform software components; BMC firmware, BIOS firmware and SBC operating system. The user is only required to install the SBC 5x00 application software. The SBC 5x00 application software package as a compressed tar file is located in the /opt/ sonus/external directory of the SBC Platform or SalesForce customer portal or the Sonus supplied USB flash drive. The SBC 5x00 application software package can be directly downloaded or copied to the local computer or server and it is installed using the Platform Manager. When the Platform Manager is used to install, it moves these images to a sub-directory under /opt/sonus/external. For example, the sub-directory name will be sbc_v r000. The new updates of the pre-installed components and application software may be released as part of normal software maintenance cycle and it is recommended to upgrade some or all components. Download the updates from the SalesForce customer portal or use the Sonus supplied USB flash drive to upgrade your system using the Platform Manager. NOTE Before installing the SBC 5x00 application software, perform the procedures listed in the SBC 5100 or SBC 5200 Hardware Installation Guide V3.0. 19 SBC 5x00 Installation Procedure Installation Overview SBC 5x00 Installation Procedure Pre-Installed Software for the Jumpstart System The SBC 5x00 is pre-installed with the latest version of the following platform software components: Operating System The following firmware: BMC The Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) is a specialized microcontroller embedded in the SBC 5x00 platform. BIOS The Basic Input/Output System. The SBC 5x00 application software package is available as a compressed tar file in the SalesForce customer portal or the Sonus supplied USB flash drive. The SBC 5x00 application software package can be directly downloaded or copied to the local computer or server and installed using the Platform Manager. For detail information on installing the new application software, refer to Chapter 3, "SBC 5x00 Application Software Installation". Using USB Flash Drive Media Additionally, Sonus supplies a USB flash drive that contains all the software mentioned above. The fresh installation of SBC 5x00 software application can be performed after reinstalling the SBC 5x00 operating system using the USB flash drive. The Sonus supplied USB flash drive is formatted with two partitions. The first partition is a FAT partition and is viewable from any PC. It consists of with the following directories: 1. Firmware (BMC and BIOS firmware images) 2. SBC 5x00 operating system (ISO install image and deb update package) 3. Application (SBC 5x00 application software) 4. SBC 5x00 Documentation Suite The second partition is the SBC 5x00 installation partition (boot partition) and is not viewable from the PC. 20 Installation Overview SBC 5x00 Installation Procedure Standalone HA (High Availability)/Redundant pair Standalone The standalone deployment of SBC 5x00 consists of a single SBC 5x00 platform. For installing the SBC 5x00 application as a standalone configuration on the SBC 5x00 platform, refer to "SBC 5x00 Application Installation - Standalone Configuration" on page 3 2. High Availability SBC 5x00 can also be deployed as a redundant High Availability (HA) pair with one system protecting the other system. The HA configuration consists of two individual SBC 5x00 platforms configured for box-level redundancy. For installing and configuring the SBC 5x00 HA pair on the SBC 5x00 Platform, refer to "SBC 5x00 Application Installation - HA Configuration" on page Version 0.3 Release V

22 Installation Overview Installation Sequence The following lists the installation task sequence of SBC 5x00: 1. Rack mount the SBC 5100 or SBC Connect the power cables. 3. Connect a Ethernet cable to the Field Service port of a SBC 5x00 box. 4. Use default BMC IP address to configure BMC IP address. 5. Connect to the BMC and configure the network management interface. 6. Launch the Platform Manager from the BMC. You can verify the SBC 5x00 software versions, as shown in "Checking the Existing Software Version" on page Install the SBC 5x00 application software using the Platform Manager. 24 SBC 5x00 Platform Configuration Platform Configuration Platform Configuration The platform configuration process is divided into the following parts: a. Configuring BMC IP Address b. Configuring the Network Management Interface c. Changing BMC Password d. Launching the Platform Manager Configuring BMC IP Address SBC 5x00 comes with the pre-configured IP address to facilitate out of the box access to the BMC web interface. The BMC web application can be accessed by connecting the Field Service Port to a Ethernet router, and typing the pre-configured IP address in the web browser. The BMC web application provides a web interface to configure BMC IP interface to allow remote access to BMC. Once the BMC IP information is configured using web application, the BMC shall not be accessible through pre-configured IP address.this configuration allows the BMC to access the SBC 5x00 application compressed tar file through the Platform Manager to complete the installation. 32 SBC 5x00 Platform Configuration Launching the Java Remote Console from the BMC Launching the Java Remote Console from the BMC Launch the Java remote console JViewer by using a supported web browser on your PC and perform a console redirection.the Java Remote Console is used to upgrade the BIOS/ConnexIP OS package and mainly used to upgrade the SBC 5x00 application through Live Software Upgrade (LSWU) procedure. Following are the pre-requisites to use your PC as a remote (Java) console: PC must support Windows XP or later. PC must support Internet Explorer 8 (IE) or later for launching the remote console. NOTE You can expect the security warning message on clicking the console redirection button. Click the Continue to Website option from the browser to launch the Java console. PC must be installed with Java Runtime Environment 6 update 19 or later to support the Java console. Table 2 4 identifies the default network ports used by BMC system controller. These ports are not configurable and are fixed for use by the BMC. When the Platform Manager is used to install, it moves these images to a sub-directory under /opt/sonus/external. For example, the sub-directory name will be sbc_v r000. Platform Manager mainly handles activities such as SBC 5x00 application installation, SBC OS upgrade, Linux troubleshooting and other OS utilities. NOTE Installation using the USB flash drive is required, if the application version shipped from the manufacturer requires update or re-install the SBC 5x00 operating system. Setting Up Physical Connection between High Availability Nodes The physical connection between two SBC 5x00 platforms is connected between each HA ports with the pair of GigE cables. The connection acts as both box-level and port-level redundancy. The HA pair consists of four management ports; two ports each per platform. When switchover occurs, the logical management address follows the currently active server. The packet ports, the MAC and IP addresses float between the HA pair (are replicated from active to standby on switchover). The HA cables should be connected between the HA pair as follows: Active HA0< >Standby HA0 Active HA1< >Standby HA1 NOTE The Platform will decline to peer with a machine that is not functionally equivalent in an upward compatibility. All such recommended updates and information on updates are available on the Sonus TAC site and SalesForce customer portal. The following SBC 5x00 software upgrade is performed: The BMC and BIOS firmware is updated using the firmware images (.rom). For more information, refer to "Overview of an Upgrade Procedure" on page 5 3 and "Updating BIOS Firmware" on page Operating system is updated using the ConnexIP deb update package (.deb). For more information, refer to "Upgrading the ConnexIP OS through ConnexIP OS Upgrade Package" on page The Operating system can be reinstalled using the ISO image (.iso), which can be downloaded from the SalesForce customer portal or using a Sonus supplied USB flash drive. The OS reinstall procedure can be used if a SSD drive has been replaced or if the user needs to start over and re-image the system. Obtaining the BIOS firmware image from the SalesForce website and copying it to the local folder on the PC or remote server. 2. Upgrading the BIOS firmware to the latest version Obtaining BIOS Firmware Image Download the BIOS software file bios5x00_<version_number>.rom from the Sonus salesforce.com site and copy it to the local folder on a PC or remote server. where <Version_Number> is the current BIOS software version. For example, the current BIOS software version is bios5x00_v2.0.0.rom. To determine exact version requirements, refer to the SBC 5x Release Notes. Upgrading the BIOS Firmware Upgrading the BIOS Software The following procedure describes how to upgrade the BIOS firmware by launching the remote Java console on the PC. 1. Locate the BIOS update software from the local folder of the PC or remote server and secure copy to ConnexIP BIOS directory using the following command. % scp -P 2024 bios5x00_v2.0.0.rom root@<connexip_5x00_server_name>:/bios NOTE If the SBC 5x00 application has not been installed, there will be no network connectivity, hence a USB method is used to upgrade the BIOS. Upgrading the ConnexIP OS through ConnexIP OS Upgrade Package Download the ConnexIP OS upgrade package from the SalesForce web portal to your local computer or server. Upload the file using the Platform Manager application to the SBC 5x00 host and perform the upgrade using the Platform Manager. This procedure will perform an incremental OS upgrade, preserving all existing system configuration and settings and the internal SSD drive will not be re-imaged. For ConnexIP OS v.1.8.0, the upgrade file is named as connexipos_1.8.0_amd64.deb. The following procedure describes how to upgrade the ConnexIP OS using ConnexIP OS upgrade package: Upgrading the ConnexIP OS through ConnexIP OS Upgrade Package: 1. Download the latest version of.deb file from the SalesForce website to your local folder on a PC or remote server. 2. This will allow the user to restore the original configuration data after the reinstallation. Upgrading SBC 5x00 Application Software using LSWU Procedure The steps below describe the procedure to perform SBC 5x00 Live Software Upgrade (LSWU). Prerequisites 1. Check the version of SBC 5x00 OS on both the servers: v1.8.0 For more information on upgrading the OS, refer to "Upgrading the ConnexIP OS through ConnexIP OS Upgrade Package" on page Check the version of BMC and BIOS firmware on both the servers. V2.0 for BMC and V2.0 for BIOS. Any configuration changes since the last upgrade will be lost. WARNING Warning: This procedure will be service impacting. 1. At the CLI prompt, execute the following command to revert to the previous version: > request system admin <systemname> revertsoftwareupgrade This will start the revert process on both servers, each server will reboot. 2. Upgrading the SBC 5x00 Application Software using Platform Manager (Non-LSWU) The following procedure describes the Non-LSWU upgrade of the SBC 5x00 application software using the Platform Manager: Upgrading the SBC 5x00 Application through Platform Manager: 1. Download the latest SBC 5x00 application version from the SalesForce website to your local folder on a PC or remote server. 2. 99 APPENDIX A Firmware and OS Upgrade using a USB Flash Drive Overview The firmware upgrade is processed in two different methods. The firmware image is downloaded either from the website or use a Sonus supplied USB flash drive with the firmware images. Normally the Sonus supplied USB is used to install the software from the scratch or the user is unable to download the image from the website because the filesize is too large or the website is not working properly. This chapter explains how to upgrade the BMC, BIOS and ConnexIP operating system using a Sonus supplied USB flash drive.the Sonus supplied USB flash drive can be used in the following ways: 1. The Sonus USB flash drive can be mounted on the ConnexIP device USB port 2. The Sonus USB flash drive can be mounted on your PC Version 0.3 Release V A 1

Upgrading the BIOS Software from Sonus supplied USB Flash Drive 1. Insert the Sonus supplied USB flash drive containing the BIOS firmware into the PC. 2. Login to the BMC using: Username: root Password: superuser The SBC 5x00 BMC main screen appears. Click the Remote Control tab to open the Remote Control screen. Select Power Cycle Server radio button and click Perform Action button, as shown in Figure A 1. NOTE This action will only power off the host side of the ConnexIP, the BMC is still up. Also make sure not to reboot the server during the upgrade. 11. After the upgrade completes, enter reset -s to reboot the server. 12. 107 Upgrading the SBC 5x00 Operating System Upgrading the SBC 5x00 Operating System The ConnexIP OS is updated using the deb package from a Sonus supplied USB flash drive. This will perform an incremental OS upgrade preserving all existing system configuration and settings. The internal SSD drive will not be re-imaged. For ConnexIP OS v.1.8.0, the upgrade file is named: connexipos_1.8.0_amd64.deb. The following procedure describes how to upgrade the SBC 5x00 OS using the deb package from a Sonus supplied USB flash drive: Upgrading the SBC 5x00 OS from a Sonus supplied USB flash drive: 1. Insert the Sonus supplied USB flash drive containing the OS deb package into the PC. 2. Launch the remote console as defined in "Launching the Java Remote Console from the BMC" on page Select Device in the JViewer and click Redirect Floppy/USB as shown in Figure A 2. Copy the OS deb package upgrade software to the ConnexIP active and standby* servers /opt/sonus directory using the following command: # cp /media/usb/connexip/connexip-os_<version>_amd64.deb /opt/sonus where: <version> is current ConnexIP OS version. For example, if the OS version is 1.8.0, then the.deb file version is connexip-os_1.8.0_amd64.deb. To determine the exact version requirements, refer to latest SBC 5x Release Notes. Note: *If updating a standalone system proceed to step#10 6. Stop the application on the standby server using the following command: # service sbx stop 7. Upgrade the OS on the standby server using the following command: # dpkg i /opt/sonus/connexip-os_<version>_amd64.deb where: <version> is current ConnexIP OS version. You will be prompted to reboot the system. Type y to reboot the system. 8. After the server has rebooted, verify the installed OS version using the following command: cat /etc/connexip_os_version or swinfo 9. Wait for the system to fully synchronize. To verify the system synchronization, use the following command: > show table system syncstatus Verify all status is synccompleted. Example: > admin@bosnbs01b> show table system syncstatus SYNC MODULESTATUS Policy DatasyncCompleted Disk MirroringsyncCompleted Configuration DatasyncCompleted Call/Registration DatasyncCompleted 10.
