4 01 Project: Nantlys Hall Client: Private Location: Denbighshire, North Wales Set in 30 acres this Grade II listed private house built in 1874 by Thomas Wyatt. Measuring 12,900 sq feet it consists of 12 large bedrooms, an array of reception rooms, service quarters, kitchens, larders and even a safe and strong room. The house had been neglected for some time and was in desperate need of restoration. Our brief was to restore the property to its former glory as well as building a swimming pool and leisure facility. Willacy Horsewood Architects All rights reserved.

5 02 Project: Coach House Client: Private Location: Tarvin, Cheshire This coach house was altered unsympathetically in the 1970 s and was in desperate need of renovation see before photo, bottom right. With the enthusiasm of the client the property has been restored to provide an ancillary accommodation more in keeping with the main house.

6 03 Project: Baron Hilll Client: Watkin Jones Location: Beaumaris, Anglesey In 2007 Watkin Jones began negotiations with the owner Sir Richard Bulkeley, to look at renovating the main house and surrounding stables and outbuildings for residential use. Further to meetings with the local authority planning department and the conservation officer and CADW (Historic Environment Service of the Welsh Assembly) a scheme has been devised that has so far had promising feedback from all. The scheme is currently awaiting planning approval and listed building consent for this building of great historical importance.

7 04 Project: HM Stanley Hospital Client: Pure Residential Limited Location: St Asaph, North Wales HM Stanley Hospital is located close to the city of St Asaph. The hospital began its life as St Asaph Union Workhouse circa 1839 before it became a hospital in It was closed in April Our design proposals focus around the retention, conservation and enhancing the setting of this Grade II listed building and The Workhouse, Chapel and the Vagrants Block are to be retained. Having gained planning approval work has commenced on the demolition of unsymmpathetic buildings - already greatly improving the setting and appreciation of the Heritage Asset. The proposed development will allow residents to enjoy the benefits of both public and private space within an integrated landscape setting. Willacy Horsewood Architects All rights reserved.

8 05 Project: Backford Hall Client: Jones Homes Location: Backford, Chester, Cheshire Backford Hall, a 19th Century Grade II listed Hall on the outskirts of Chester, is constructed on the site of two earlier mansions. More recently the Hall and outbuildings were occupied as council offices with various extensions and temporary structures being added. The site has been acquired by Jones Homes, who propose to develop the site by demolishing the 20th century council additions, converting the main hall and outbuildings and providing new housing within the grounds. The philosophy of the design is to create an intimate development that respects the listed building and considers all the constraints within and surrounding the site and to better integrate Backford Estate into the Backford settlement.

9 06 Project: Chester Royal Infirmary Client: Bryant Group Location: Chester, Cheshire The Chester Royal Infirmary is a distinctive building along Chester s City walls. The hospital closed in 1993 after 230 years of medical care on the site. The original 1761 Infirmary, a Grade II listed building, has been fully restored to form an integral part of the new housing development. It s interior has been sub divided into 18 executive luxury apartments. The façade was restored to ensure the beauty of the original building was maintained. An application for a Civic Trust award has been submitted. 07 Project: Combermere View Client: Liberty Properties Location: Aston, Cheshire Existing barns in a dilapidated state renovated into three large luxury dwellings.

10 08 Project: Oakmere Hall Client: Private Location: Cheshire Set in 13 acres, Oakmere Hall is said to be one of the celebrated Cheshire architect John Douglas best works. We converted this Grade II listed, private gated development into eight distinctive luxury apartments. The design has incorporated the original clock tower.

11 09 Project: Old Hall Farm Client: Banks Brewery Location: Ellesmere Port, Cheshire This conversion of a redundant farmhouse into a public house and restaurant had a budget of 1.2m. The fast track project was completed in just 20 weeks and on budget and has set a benchmark standard for the area. 10 Project: Hooton Pumping Station Client: Private Location: Hooton, Wirral % An unusual and award winning conversion of a former Pumping Station into six luxury townhouses. The project involved complex planning permission due to the re-housing of an owl s nest.

12 11 Project: Oldcastle Mill Client: Private Location: Malpas, Cheshire % In a domestic project of great interest, a derelict mill dating back to 1600 was restored into spectacular living space. The project entailed the restoration of the water mill and its conversion and extension to provide high specification living accommodation on three storeys. The design details for the building were developed in close cooperation with the Local Authority Conservation Office. The development has been nominated for a Civic Trust award.

13 12 Project: Lower Kinnerton barn conversions Client: Private Location: Lower Kinnerton, Cheshire We obtained planning permission for the conversion of these John Douglas designed redundant barns into 12 residential units.
