It is a comprehensive course designed to provide you with the skills necessary to take full creative control of your images. Many graduating students go on to launch their career as professional and/or freelance photographers. if you have a DSLR camera, whether you are looking to start an exciting new career, enhance your existing skills or just learn how to take great images, this is the course for you. This course ticks all the boxes. In line with contemporary education, this 12 module course includes 10 required modules and 2 elective modules of your choice. AVERAGE COURSE DURATION: 12 months CONTENT: 12 Modules - (10 core modules + 2 electives) CERTIFICATE OF DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY Fly with just the basics. No excess baggage in this course. This course is designed for those who just want to take better images with any type of camera. The techno babble is kept to a minimum so we can concentrate on teaching you how to improve your technique, avoid common problems and make the most of your opportunities. This is a hands-on course, so hop on board, strap yourself in and get ready for a huge learning curve and lots of fun. MODULE 1: CAMERAS, LENSES AND THE DIGITAL IMAGE A gentle take off easing you into study mode, starting with an in-depth look at the types and features of digital cameras, lenses, when to use which one, and the accessories that go with them. Learn about the digital image. What it actually is, the different file formats, size, resolution, resizing, re-sampling and the technical jargon that goes with it. Cameras out! It is time to get familiar with the menus, buttons, switches and dials that will you will soon be getting to know intimately. Outside time and we uncover which lens and focal length is your weapon of choice in a range of different situations. MODULE 2: EXPOSURE - SHUTTER SPEED AND APERTURE Grab your camera. It is time to get serious. We tackle the shutter speed and aperture setting relationship for correct exposure. Before you know it, you will be blurring movement, freezing the action and setting the depth of field in your images. Yes, you will be taking control of the camera, thinking about what you want to do and creating it. Program mode is now a thing of the past. Focus points and the hyperfocal distance also come into play. Through a series of exercises, you will be really getting to know your camera, what settings work for you in different situations and creating a series of cheat sheets to help you master these techniques quickly and easily. MODULE 3: LIGHT, EXPOSURE AND CONTROL Yes, there is a third element in the shutter speed/aperture relationship triangle. ISO is added into the equation as we look at light, where it comes from, how to measure it and how to work with it. You will determine the dynamic range of your camera, and discover why the camera sees and captures images differently to what your eye can see. The Histogram will become your new best friend. Every image has one. Learn how to read it, understand it, and use it to make exposure adjustments on the fly. MODULE 4: THE COLOUR OF LIGHT AND HOW TO USE IT This module is particularly enlightening (pardon the pun). Photography is the art of painting with light so we need to understand it to work with it to our advantage. We take a detailed look at colour theory, colour systems, models and mapping, explore the colour temperature in different lighting conditions, and the white balance function on your camera. Learn all about photography in natural light and how to work with it. Light is not only natural. Man invented the light bulb and has gone on from there providing us with heaps of great options in artificial lighting equipment. Learn the what, when and how of artificial lighting. MODULE 5: STYLE AND COMPOSITION Creative hats on! This module is all about thinking differently. We give you an insight into image composure, backgrounds, foregrounds, focal points, silhouettes, working with reflections, leading and directing the eye and the list goes on. Free-thinking and creativity are encouraged. Learn to pre-visualise your images, put your theory into action and let your own style emerge in your images. We also look at techniques to help you identify and avoid common problems. MODULE 6: THE FINAL TOUCHES IN PHOTOSHOP Welcome to the world of post-production. Part 1 is processing your RAW files. What you learn in this section will save many images from the recycle bin and significantly reduce the tears and tantrums. It is mind-blowingly powerful. In the second section, we explore elements of Adobe Photoshop relevant to photography, how to make your images POP, work with layers, apply filters, make tone/colour corrections, turn grey skies to blue and remove unwanted tourists (or previous partners) from your images. How good is that!

MODULE 7: PHOTOGRAPHY SPECIALTIES Different areas of photography require specialised techniques, knowledge and understanding to truly master the art. We take an in-depth look at some of the people free specialties in this module: Travel Photography Nature And Wildlife Photography Architecture Photography Night Photography Urban Photography Food Photography Macro Photography MODULE 8: PHOTOGRAPHY SPECIALTIES In this group of photography specialties, most involve people. A whole new skill set is needed here, so dust off your people skills as we look at the following specialties: MODULE 9: DOWN TO BUSINESS - IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU In the first half of this module, we arm you with some knowledge on the business side of things. Those annoying little details like copyright, legal requirements, fixed and variable costs, cash flow and sustainable pricing that will give you the income your lifestyle desires. If part 1 is not your thing, don't worry. Part 2 makes up for it. It is all about YOU, the photographer. We look at your journey so far, how you see yourself, and how this influences your individual style that is emerging in your images. MODULE 10 AND MODULE 11: CHOOSE 2 ELECTIVES FROM THE FOLLOWING PAGE. You do not have to decide now. As you learn more and discover where your talents lay, your interests may change. The perfect time to make your choice is after completing Module 9. You are ready to fly. We are putting together your portfolio, a showcase of your work so far. Something you can be really proud of. You will also learn the ins and outs of using agents, some dos and don'ts for getting started in different photographic arenas and other life essentials including organisational skills, people skills, and managing your time, your clients and your images. We round off the course with a thought provoking session on continuing to grow as a photographer. No matter how old or experienced we are, we never stop learning.

ELECTIVE MODULES: CHOOSE ANY 2 MODULE E1: VISION INSPIRED PHOTOGRAPHY We live in a fast paced world. Life is moving so quickly, we process what is around us without actually seeing the true essence of what is right in front of us. In this module, we look at ways to get in the zone to really see the wonderful world around you. This is one module that will truly have a huge impact on the quality of your photography. Now that you have discovered the secret, we teach you how to capture the mood and ambience in your images so they start to tell the real story. MODULE E2: LIGHTROOM EXPLORED Adobe Lightroom is extremely popular with photographers for post-production, and for good reason. It can be a dream to use (once you get the hang of it!) and the skills taught in this module will have you processing your images at light speed with precision and consistency, adding effects with ease and rating, sorting and categorising your images on the fly. The module is comprehensive from beginning to end, teaching both the basics and advanced skills essential for good image manipulation and management. MODULE E3: ADVANCED PHOTOGRAPHY TECHNIQUES This module could be the most fun you can have with your clothes on! Experience the jaw dropping effect of HIGH SPEED IMPACT photography and give WATER DROPLET photography a splash. Indulge your sense of humour with FORCED PERSPECTIVE photography. This one is easy and something you can have a lot of fun with. Night time activities include STAR TRAILS and LIGHT PAINTING. Add in a little SMOKE PHOTOGRPAHY and to finish it off, we discover the visual appeal of BOKEH photography. If you thought photography was fun before, this module takes it to a whole new level.

9 CERTIFICATE OF DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY COURSE CONTENT OVERVIEW MODULE 1: THE PHOTOGRAPHIC PROCESS and THE DIGITAL IMAGE A gentle take off easing you into study mode. We start with the photographic process, what a digital image actually is, how your camera creates them and yes, we cover what to do with them. Cameras out now for familiarisation, investigating the menus, buttons, dials and switches on your camera. Aperture, shutter speed and ISO are briely explained (without too much techno babble - we saved that for the Diploma students). We look at why your eyes see differently to your camera and depth of field in your images. MODULE 2: LIGHT, COLOUR AND HOW TO USE IT Grab your camera. This module is jam packed with exercises and activities. We explore light and colour in detail, how your camera measures and responds to light, and introduces the white balance function on your camera. You will begin to understand the differing colour, direction, quality and quantity of natural light at different times of the day or different weather conditions. This is one of the keys to taking great images with accurate colour. No better time than now to give portrait photography a try in both natural and artificial light. MODULE 3: STYLE AND COMPOSITION Creative hats on! This module is all about thinking differently. We give you an insight into image composure, backgrounds, foregrounds, focal points, silhouettes, working with reflections, leading and directing the eye and the list goes on. MODULE 4: THE FINAL TOUCHES IN PHOTOSHOP Even the best of us don't get it right all of the time. This is why some very smart people developed Photoshop. With digital images, you have a second chance. This module teaches you how to adjust your exposure, white balance, make colour corrections, remove imperfections, sharpen, straighten and crop images and so much more. You will even learn how to turn grey skies to blue and remove unwanted tourists (or previous partners) from your images. How good is that! Fly with just the basics. No excess baggage on this course. 13 YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED How long does it take to complete the course? Most students are able to complete the Certificate course in 4-6 months, and the Diploma course in 12 months. What happens if I don't complete my course within this time? There are no deadlines. Sometimes life gets in the way of what we want to do. You can take as long as you need. That is fine by us. How is the course assessed? There is an assignment at the end of each training Module. It consists of a short answer theory section plus a series of tasks for practical assessment. Log in to the secure section of our website to upload your answers and images for assessment. Your result, complete with comments and suggestions will be ed to you by your tutor within a few days. What happens if I don't pass an assessment? That shows us you need a little bit of extra assistance with this one. Your tutor will go through the trouble spots with you in detail, giving you extra help where it is needed. You can re-submit the assignment when you are ready. This is all part of the learning process. Can I buy Adobe Photoshop at the student rate? Yes. If you are an enrolled Diploma student, you qualify to purchase the student version of Adobe software. Student versions are fully functional versions, available at greatly reduced prices. Do I have to attend any classes or workshops? No. All of your study can be done online, how, when and where you choose. I am not in Australia. Does that make study difficult? No. Not at all. Students from other countries are more than welcome, and add to the diversity of our Student Community. Courses are delivered totally online, so you can be in any country of the world.
