1 Alarm Systems An intruder alarm system is designed to detect intruder presence at your premises. When detected, a siren will activate and communicate an alarm signal to one of our highly sophisticated Monitoring centres, from where an appropriate response will be coordinated. Intruder systems can be either hard wired or wireless The purpose of an intruder alarm system is: To protect the physical assets and people within a premises To deter crime and vandalism To ensure a prompt armed response service is dispatched in response to an alarm signal Commonly utilised detection devices include: Passive Infra Red Sensors (PIR s) we offer microwave, digital and dual technology PIR s that are either wall or ceiling mounted. Most of our PIR s, although not all, are also pet immune, an important factor that causes false alarms Break glass sensors Vibration sensors Seismic vault and safe detectors Smoke and heat detectors Door and window magnetic contacts External beams and outdoor passives for early detection and warning The key to effective alarm systems is the careful selection and placement of the detection devices, so as to best suit the environment and risk level. This is why we recommend that one employs the services of a qualified home security expert who is able to advise on the appropriate placement of all detection devices.

2 Security Beams Point to point security beams and outdoor detectors are mounted externally as an early warning system. These devices can be linked to your alarm system. When the infra red beam is broken or motion is detected by the outdoor security beams, an alarm will be triggered. Boom Gate Systems Chubb installs and services boom gate systems. These restrict access into secure areas, and can be linked to an access control system. Number plate recognition cameras can be installed at boom points and security gates. Intercom Systems For domestic, complex, commercial and industrial use. Security Doors Chubb installs and services wireless intercom systems and video intercom systems. These allow for the verification and remote control of entry and exit into your home or business, without you having to leave the safety of the building. Chubb installs mantrap doors. These double doors eliminate free access and allow for access control in high risk areas. The first door must be closed before the second door will open. In addition mantrap security doors are able to restrict the quantity of people entering at one time. Remote Monitoring Chubb has the ability to perform process monitoring via our Mastermind platform. We are able to link fridges, pumps, pressure gauges etc to your alarm control panel. In the event of activation, for example a fridge not remaining at the correct temperature, a signal will be sent to the Monitoring Centre. The monitoring systems will then send a SMS to selected recipients, which then escalates to a telephone call to challenge the signal. The remote monitoring feature can also be linked to vending machines to indicate when a machine needs to be restocked or when cash containers are full.

3 Monitoring & Armed Response Monitoring Chubb has the ability to monitor your alarm system in your own town as well as from other main centres should the need arise. The monitoring centres are all manned 24 hours a day by highly trained personnel. These men and women are able to take charge of your problems and manage them through to a satisfactory solution. Control centres used by reaction services must be constructed and operated in accordance with SAIDSA standards. SAIDSA also recommends that a legal written contract is entered into between a reaction service company and their client and there are also recommendations for insurance of reaction officers against death and injury. The monitoring centres are capable of nationally receiving both radio transmitted signals as well as signals sent via landline (Telkom network). Chubb Security has a network of highly sophisticated computerised alarm monitoring centres throughout South Africa and Namibia all linked via a wide area network (WAN). This enables any control centre to take over and/or assist in the monitoring of alarm signals should any other monitoring control centre be disrupted or out of commission for any period of time. Due to the nature of the radio transmitter, the type and content of the signals sent is limited to simple burglary/panic/power failure signals, whereas signals generated by the on-board communicator in the security system, sent via the landline can contain detailed information on what zones or areas of the system have been activated including specific panic, fire and medical conditions. Once the signal is received by the monitoring equipment, it is analysed and sent to the designated operators who will ensure that the instructions for that client are checked, a vehicle dispatched and the client and/or key-holders are called and advised of the activation. Comprehensive notes are kept on all activations and are archived for future reference should the need arise. Armed Response

All Chubb Armed Response officers are registered with PSIRA and undergo a strict selection process before being employed by Chubb. Every vehicle is in radio contact with its local monitoring or control centre, receiving and sending critical information pertaining to alarm activations and incidents throughout South Africa and Namibia. Armed Response provides a passive and active deterrent to burglars and other threats to your family, your residence and your business. Upon receipt of an activation by our Monitoring Centre, the Monitoring Centre will telephonically contact the point of activation in order to: a) establish the authenticity of the activation (to prevent irresponsible users of the system from abusing manpower whilst other genuine incidents take place), b) identify the nature of the threat e.g. medical, fire, hostage, etc., and c) prepare the Armed Response Patrol officer or other emergency services for the threat by forewarning them. Upon arrival at your premises the Armed Response officer will take what action he deems necessary and call for assistance, if this is required. 5 Biometric Access Control Readers Biometric access control readers provide increased security by assessing and identifying a person s unique body feature. Biometrics combine the security of using a cardholders badge or PIN in conjunction with a biometric template. Our biometric solutions offer fast and accurate access control. Smart Cards We offer a two-in-one solution that combines a biometric device and smart card reader, using standard non-contact smart card technology. Fingerprint or hand geometry templates are captured during enrollment and directly written to a smart card chip. Logical Access Enterprise access cards consolidate employee credentials onto a single, secure smart card providing photo ID as well as a security device that enables secure windows and network login, PC locking, secure remote access (VPN), secure with digital signatures and single sign-on to your enterprise and desktop applications. The videofied control panel is able to communicate with any of the Chubb Monitoring Centres via the GPRS cellular network, Ethernet or standard telephone lines infrared (multifocal) cameras. 2. These cameras are applicable for sites with no wireways to run cable to a DVR or Monitoring Centre IP Cameras. 4. Wireless infrared detectors can be combined with a wireless camera for high risk areas. The camera will transmit 15second video clips via the GPRS network to a cellphone on alarm activation. The option exists to have a dial-in facility to view cameras remotely with real time recording. Footage can then be saved to either a hard drive or memory stick. Electric Fencing Make sure your electric fencing is monitored and serviced regularly It s a sign of the times burglar proofing, state-of-the-art alarm systems monitored 24 hours by a security provider and people being protected by high walls that are topped with high voltage electric fence, that in order to be effective, should also be monitored 24 hours a day. Criminals are becoming more brazen in how they access schools and tertiary facilities, and are targeting electric fences, says Stefan Oberholtzer, managing director for Chubb Security Southern Africa. Educational facilities with electric fences should take care to ensure that alarms are not the work of potential criminals seeking to disable the perimeter s security by placing either clothing or rubberised tools over the fence s wires to trigger a false alarm. Rather than cutting power to the fence, verify the cause if possible and notify your security organisation.

7 This practice particularly occurs over weekends when electric fencing installation providers are not available to be called out to repair the faulty electric fence, says Oberholtzer. We urge tertiary educational facilities and schools to be cautious as this method of burglary is on the increase. In addition we warn both teachers and learners not to approach suspiciouslooking individuals who may be loitering around their properties should they experience such an incident. Gun crime is on the increase and criminals are not afraid to use their weapons. Rather call for your security provider. In addition, it must be noted that an electric fence that is not monitored does not offer much protection at all and, like your alarm system, it should be maintained and serviced just as regularly, concludes Oberholtzer.
