6 HISTORIC DISTRICT At the heart of the city, history and culture form an open air museum. Start your itinerary in the Historic District by visiting themercado Público Chalé da, Praça XV andpaço Municipal (City Hall). 7 1 Mercado Público Municipal LAKE GUAÍBA The shore of the Guaíba is one of Porto Alegre's main sights. The sunset, an icon of the city, can be enjoyed along the 15 1 km shore that connects the Usina do Gasômetro with the Boardwalk of Ipanema Beach, in Zona Sul. Ipanema is a perfect place for walks, bike rides, water sports and relaxing in bars and restaurants. To see the city from another perspective, our tip would be to navigate along the Guaíba in one of the tourist boats.

8 PUC-RS Science and Technology Museum PARKS The parks will give you an opportunity to witness the age-old customs of local residents from Porto Alegre, such as outdoor life, relaxed chat and the ever-present chimarrão. Affectionately called Redenção, the 40 hectares of Parque Farroupilhaconstitute the oldest and most popular meeting place in the city. On Saturday mornings, it hosts the Ecological Fair, and on Sundays, Brique da Redenção, with crafts, visual arts, antiques and cultural events. It is also worth going to Parque Moinhos de Vento (Parcão), located in one of the finest areas of the Capital, which offers excellent infrastructure for sports.

9 FOR CHILDREN Good choices are the educational walk through the Botanical Garden, where there is a lake with turtles, and fun on the paddleboats in Parque da Redenção. You can count on adventure with the interactive exhibits at the Museu de Ciência e Tecnologia da PUCRS, which is one of the most important in Latin America. 11 1 CULTURE Theater, literature, music, dance, visual arts and cinema. Porto Alegre's cultural life is dynamic. Major attractions pass through the Gaúcho Capital and it is an important production center of culture, with events throughout the year. It was the first city in the continent to receive the avant-garde work of Álvaro Siza. The bold concepts of the Portuguese architect are found in his design of the museum of the Iberê Camargo Foundation, which houses works of the world-renowned gaúcho artist, plus exhibitions of modern and contemporary art. NIGHTLIFE Nightlife starts early and extends to different venues. Start with a cold draft beer in the bars and restaurants of the Mercado Público or in the Chalé da Praça XV. Expand your options to the neighborhood of Moinhos de Vento, especially the Calçada da Fama (Walk of Fame), in the streets Fernando Gomes and Padre Chagas. In the Cidade Baixa neighborhood, you will find an alternative ambiance and laid-back places.
